DLSS technology is actually incredible, the upscaled images are indistinguishable from true 4k to the naked eye if rendered at a reasonable resolution. It's a lot better than most people are probably expecting who aren't PC gamers. It could be an absolute game changer, allowing Nintendo to keep their portability / creative side and still do 4k while docked. It's a very powerful play on their part, I just wonder if they knew this was in the pipeline when they went with NVidia because the Switch launch date in 2017 predates DLSS. Fingers crossed it's actually in the new Switch model.

I was a little bummed during 20 questions when the Cat came on screen and they ALL just interrupted Mark mid-story to say "ouuuu cat! What's worse is no one bothered to say afterwards "Sorry Mark, please continue".

My daughter started gaming when she was 3, it was Yoshi on the switch. of course, as a parent, I need to sit with her when she plays, regardless if she needs helping with reading or not. Eventually, when she's 4 she plays Luigi's mansion 3, in which the story is told through texts more. At this point her gaming activity actually kind of turning to be a storytime with me where I read while she plays the game. And now at 5, she continues to learn and can read due to her growing interest and her desire to be able to read the texts herself. Game scoop won't tell you this but I would: don't put your kids with games as an alternative to babysit, use it as one of your activities together with your child. It's an opportunity to spend time and teach your kids stuff.

Chun Li appearing in Breath of Fire, along with the portrait of Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins are some great easter eggs from Capcom. Capcom used to be huge on easter eggs back in the day!

Just a little side info for you reference the Ghost of Tsushima movie directed by Chad (of John Wick fame)........ There is a fantastic podcast interview with him by Scott Adkins on KZfaq that details his martial arts background that fed into why those movies were so good, and why this is a great choice to make this game a movie.... And for Justin, a large part of Ghost of Tsushima being in the real world, the game uses the historical event of the Mongols invading Tsushima - which actually happened. The mongol fleet was mostly destroyed by bad weather which led to those left being summarily dispatched by the Japanese. Another reason to be excited for the movie, and maybe finally the game to movie success story everyone wants!

Great discussion guys. I feel like you guys may have missed the part of the articles before that said 720p oled screen. Most likely it’ll be 720 handheld, docked dlss 4K. They’re probably not doing a home only box but more just a boost to regular switch that has better frame rates, graphics etc. It’ll still give some frame rate benefits and slight resolution bumps but you guys are right that it won’t suddenly make old games 4K but it’ll make new games look nice.

Ring Fit is one of the best games I’ve purchased during the Pandemic

They didn't throw away the Wii name. They continued with it, and it backfired on them with the Wii U. The name was very confusing and many people thought it was an attachment for the Wii. So they had to get rid of the Wii name and start anew with the Switch and you can see how successful they are with it.

In regards to the idea of The Last of Us TV Series and other game related adaptations: I think something to consider is while such a series is revered by the gaming community, there is a wider audience that would never be exposed to such a story as they never game. ( Similarly I would never have read the Game of Thrones books if I hadn't first seen the HBO series.) And while many video game to media adaptations fail, I still wish them to try because the creators are so inventive and deserve to have their creations out there in the broader world. I think video games are becoming more and more a valid storytelling device but it will never taken seriously by non gamers until it's seen by them and it would have to be on another platform.

Budget and file size (cheaper carts to manufacture) has to factor into the voice acting decision as well.

Talking about Easter Eggs in games, there a ton of great ones. But I feel like the Borderlands series is as close as it gets to a game version of Ready Player One when it comes to Easter Eggs. Obviously, RPO is more of an MMO, but Borderlands captures the feel of that world to me.

I don't care about 4k but if they can get games looking crispy in handheld mode then that's all I need. When basic games like Apex look the way they do, it's downright silly to think that it couldn't use some more power.

Mario RPG was shock full of easter eggs: you could change into 8bit Mario in Boosters Tower; Princess Peach's sex toy near her bed; the hidden fight against Zeromus from FFIV...

Part of me really wants a Switch that uses DLSS & a modified Tegra X2 Back when it [the X2] launched in 2017, they said the X1 was PS3-level power & the X2 was base XB1-level power. But Nintendo went with a modified/custom X1. If they could do a modified X2 that uses DLSS & has a bigger, better screen...yeah. They'd absolutely remain competitive.

I liked pretty much all the Easter Eggs in Rage, that'd probably also be a guilty pleasure game for me - I'm also a sucker for any Dopefish appearance in a game. I wish Hollywood would forget about Video game adaptions, let films be films, games be games and don't turn one into the other.

Yes, dlss requires custom code, but that doesn't mean devs won't update their games with it. The witcher 3 makes perfect sense for this since cdpr does this for free for the other versions.

Regarding the accessibility talk for kids with Nintendo games, why did no one bring up the NES/SNES days? I'm all for making games more accessible to people of all types, but I think voice acting is an artistic choice and should not be forced on any game if the designer doesn't want it. And a lot of gamers grew up in the NES/SNES days where we didn't have voice acting. Doesn't forcing players to read text help them to learn how to read, in a way? Not that young kids should be learning how to read through video games, but I would rather my kid do that, than simply listen to a voice the whole time. Or if they don't understand the text they can skip it and when they go back to the game in ten years they'll be able to experience it in a whole new way...ya know, like we've all been doing for nearly 40 years.

Sony own Crackle has a great documentary on Nintendo about 5 hours altogether starts in 1889 and ends in 2020. Nintendo has dominated the hand held gaming market since they got in with Game Watch. When Jobs introduced the iPhone and mobile gaming enter causal gamers hands, the same hands that was all over the Wii and DS BEFORE Smart Phones BEFORE Mobile Phone Games, it was big a "switch" from wanting a Wii U to wanting a Smartphone instead for causal gamers and after that happen Nintendo had a new FOE. I thought it was interesting in the documentary the final episode it said that the idea of the Switch came from that Nintendo learn the positive thing about the Wii U was its gamepad and the most negative thing was people did like how short the connection was. So with mobile gaming becoming bigger and bigger and people loving on the Game Pad more than anything else about Wii U the Switch was born. Console like quality on the go or on the tv. It's truly brilliant how Nintendo's R&D works in both their down and ups as a company.

What I wish nintendo would do is to make a cheaper ($300) home console only system something similar in power to the series S but keep the cartridge slot. And for nintendo to have few years of cross support where the home console could play the switch cross platform games at 60fps between 1080p and 1440p but then also get 3rd party stuff at least consistent playable standards 30fps 1080p/1440p to 60fps 720p/1080p. I think the new switch home console could have a few exclusives from the switch like 1 to 2 games a year out of roughly the 10ish big games a year. And then lets say this system comes out this holiday then in 2023 a "switchable" version of the console comes out and at the same time cross gen support to fade maybe a few 1st party games will still play on switch like 2d platformers, top-down games like another zelda or a pokemon game similar to the gen 4 remakes pokemon tends to support old hardware.

Maybe it’s just my age and the fact that I’ve been gaming since the early 80’s, but gaming isn’t what it used to be. We had a loooong time with innovation in gaming until (IMO) the X1/PS4 era(with exceptions to the rule). I still enjoy gaming but it has been less and less over the last decade. Just me?

I have to say I have a 4 year old son who is turning 5 next month He can't read and I didn't show him the ropes of Super Mario Oddessy He just randomly started playing that game and now he is on the last world before the Moon. Usually he just plays Yoshi Crafty World over and over again (he seriously beat that game and its secret stages by himself except the boss fight with Kamek) He's halfway done with Luigi Mansion 3 and I only help him at the very start and the Medieval floor level. I'm truly impress.

Here is the thing. Nintendo relies on Hardware sales for part of their profits. Sony and Microsoft do not. Sony and Microsoft will take losses on console sales because they make money on all sales whether it is exclusive games or 3rd party. Sony and Microsoft expect a lot of profit from their services as well. Nintendo seems to rely less on 3rd party and services. And look to make a lot back on direct console and software sales. And they also make part of their profits on toys based off of their IPs Nintendo has a different business structure than Sony and MS. Maybe it is because they are strictly a video game company where as video games are just 1 division of MS and Sony. But this structure works for Nintendo. And it is why they are able to think outside of the box. However .. they have more risk than MS and Sony because 1 bad decision can hurt the business as a whole ..

on the accessibility/reading issue I will point to the fact that I know SEVERAL people who learned to read as kids so that they could play video games... Reading, generally, isn't an accessibility issue (obviously it could be an issue for those with cognitive issues) at least not in the way it's framed here. Also for reference, I'm Dyslexic which means I'd be HAPPY to have things voice acted rather than reading everything, but by no means do i see this as something keeping me from accessing the game...

I think the reason switch will continue is because nintendo merged it’s handheld and console departments to make the project work. I doubt they will separate them again anytime soon.
