The Horizon devs admitted themselves, that riding flying robots was cut from the original, because the PS4 could not handle it. That will probably be cut again from the game, because it has to run on the base PS4. That is the generational difference, NOT just HD and 4k. Many people are concerned about features potentially being cut because it has to run on PS4. Features like the dimensional portals in Ratchet and Clank only being possible on PS5 due to the SSD and other features we probably can't even think of. Hell, remember when Shadow of Mordor had the nemesis system fully cut from the PS3 version? Complete features fully cut, because last gen versions can't handle them. That's why people are concerned last gen will hold the games back. I'm sure the games will still be great on PS4, but the generational differences are NOT just superficial features like 4k and faster loading times. That's a pretty dismissive stance to take in my opinion. Having to run on a machine from 2013 can definitely hold the games back in terms of gameplay. Not just FPS, loading times and resolution.

I don't agree with Justin on them putting God of War Ragnarok on the PS4 because of the supply constraints of the PS5. This game has probably been in production for at least 2 years, they were not going to leave behind 115 million ps4 players on a 10+ million seller game, for the PS5, which without supply constraints, may have only 25 million units out in the public at the time of the game's release. Ratchet and Clank and Returnal are not huge 10+ million seller games. So they can be incentives for people to upgrade. But Games like Horizon and GOW Ragnarok are not only system sellers, but software unit sellers. And Sony wants that sales money. Hopefully there is a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for both Horizon and Ragnarok.

As a PS5 owner i understand GOW2 being cross gen but am disappointed. Ratchet and Clank showing the seamless transition between full worlds wouldn't have been possible if they had to make it run on PS4. I would prefer the amazing team at Sony Santa Monica not have to hold back their vision for full hardware. I am sure the game will be amazing but it does lower may full expections.

I don’t agree with what they said at 12:58 about companies just walking away from older hardware. The hardware might have been obsolete after the newer version came out but they so conveniently forget that hardware manufacturers, until the last gen of hardware, worked very hard to make the new systems backward compatible with older hardware. The PS2 played PS1 software. The OG PS3 played PS1 & PS2 hardware. The 369 played more than half of Xbox OG software.

Regarding the Goldeneye April Fools joke, I actually did it and when it didn't unlock anything, I assumed I had messed something up so I did it a second time. Only then did I eventually realize it was a joke. It involved needing to play on the hardest difficulty and beat the hardest level while bumping up some of the extra difficulty modifiers...something like that.

Have to push back on what Justin said about PS5 games mostly just being higher res. The worlds can be designed differently on PS5 because of the SSD. They could have have larger more open worlds to explore on PS5.

So, if I’m to believe Justin, as someone who is still quite happy with a 1080p TV, then I really don’t need to bother trying to find a PS5. If, as he says, the biggest difference is PS4 1080, PS5 4K, and as most of the games appear to be coming to the PS4 for at least another year, then I’m a pretty happy gamer.

In my mind, having these specific few games now come to PS4 in addition to PS5 could be a logical solution to a few different problems caused by the pandemic/limits. 1. Fewer PS5's than they would have otherwise liked and so lower revenue from exclusives as well as unhappy PS4 gamers 2. Some parts of development are probably delayed significantly longer than others. Perhaps they will/already have parts of dev teams complete what work they can. Sure you can have them help with other parts of development but that just creates a domino effect of more people reaching the limit of what they have and can do. If there's nothing else the company has for them to work on, are they just laid off? This could very well not be the case but maybe having a team of otherwise out of work devs make a PS4 version can satisfy Sony, the dev company, the individual devs, and last-gen gamers.

I'm of two minds on these games being cross platform with PS4. For people who can't get a PS5, it's great. But now we're not going to get a true PS5 God of War game until whatever game comes out after Ragnarok. So, we'll finally get a real next-gen God of War in like 6 years and probably play it on PS5 Pro. So, I understand but I'm disappointed.

Yes let’s be clear these games most of which being design now I’ll be up for last generation hardware. They are being upgraded to function better on next generation hardware that’s just a fact. Now does that mean those games are held back to some degree yes it does. However we already knows that with new technology comes to learning curve it usually takes 2 to 3 years before developers get their heads wrapped around the new technology and can work with it reasonably well guess what it takes 2 to 3 years before a developer stops going cross generational as well. Ratchet and clank it’s self doesn’t push far into the realm of possibilities with the new system. They take advantage of fast loading with the hard drive but to be honest that’s simple to do that’s not a complicated measure every game should do that on the new system even if you don’t force it to do so it still happens. Now the advanced lighting and re-tracing those are nice new things but again they are just scratching the surface with that barely pushing beyond what last generation technology could do. There are things that are possible with this generation technology that we haven’t even thought about yet and I don’t say that to be reaching for the stars I mean we literally know of potential possibilities that no one‘s ever attempted on a video game system before a PC yes but we’ve never seen them on a video game system. We can do those things now they will do those things now but it will take time.

The shadiest thing about GOW Ragnarok being delayed is not that there was no chance it was being released in 2021 when they said it would. It is the fact announced it saying, "Coming 2021" knowing damn well it wouldn't just so they can sell the PS5. They used lies to move consoles and that is wrong.

If you compare the same window of time, the PS4 had even fewer units in the wild compared to the PS5 now, the difference is how successful the PS4 is compared to what the PS3 was then. Plus, the difference between generations is getting smaller.

I'd be more excited about God of War 2 if I liked GOW1 in any way at all. I got about 6 hours in and was having no fun whatsoever. When I'm Kratos I wanna feel like a badass all the time, not get schooled by scrub enemies because my equipment level is too low =T

Sony and Jim ryan are just being shortsighted and greedy thinking of upfront money instead of long term profits. Ps5 only games will be better in the long run by delivering a better experience than ps4 can provide and keep customers hype with good reason to upgrade. Its sucks now that people cant get a hold of ps5 but time moves forward and eventually they will. Ps5 games will be available for people no matter when they are able to buy ps5 whether its today or 3 years from now. Instead now we get a marginal upgrade in frame rates and resolution instead of next gen game design and innovation in physics, a.i, destruction, etc. Lying Jim Ryan cares more about increasing his executive bonus than than delivering superior games and products to the people that support PlayStation with there hard earned money.
