I always appreciate how this show highlights mobile games every now and then.

I'm watching this on xbox, but pulled it up on my phone just to comment that this episode got me more hyped for Halloween than anything else has this year. I'm also planning to start Visage tomorrow and I'm terrified already.

Gosh Metroid Dread is perfect. It’s just everything I’ve wanted. Haven’t had this feeling of awe since the first time playing a Souls game.

The reason why it's Metroidvania is because it is a MODERN CONCEPT to think very hard about what things are branded knowing that this brand will be still be around in decades and will reach all corners on the globe. Back then, you'd just say whatever made sense at the time with the assumption that as long as everyone you see right in front of you is on board with whatever you're saying, that's all that mattered. If you talked about Super Metroid and Castlevania Symphony of the Night in 1994 there was no assumption that you could just quickly Google all the games that inspired these games and then buy them all on Amazon, then watch a KZfaq podcast where 4 video game historians tell you about the original games that inspired this style of game. We have learned in real time through the growth of media how long things stick around and our expectations on people's knowledge have EXPLODED in the past generation, and our own knowledge that everything that exists has people who that thing is their whole world, has totally changed the way our minds even think. The thought of branding this genre a more fair name based on the games that invented it is just not a thought that any common person in 1995 would've ever considered. *Someone* would've had that opinion for sure. But, when all of the information on the planet wasn't immediately available to you at the tip of you thumb, you weren't expected to have it. Now, if you're uniformed, you're being a bad person. We have long forgotten the smaller scale that YOUR society used to think on. Now when you think of "society" you pretty much think of the entire planet. It used to be the common person was only expected to think about the people right in front of them. Now if you'll excuse me, l gotta go to the post office and the bank to pay my rent.

I have the same Metroidvania question/irk with the term "Soulsbourne". People were already using the term "Souls" until out of nowhere a single entry, available on single platform suddenly earned its way 50/50 into the genre slang?

Why does it sound like Sam's house is flooding about half way in?

Justin gave the most even keel take about N64 emulation on Switch: most people won't notice or care. Despite the internet telling me I should hate it, I've been enjoying Starfox and OoT with no issues. It's been years since I've played either, so I don't remember or care about fog. The latency is imperceptible unless you're a speedrunner or a techno gamephile. It's been fun playing these classics again, which is what matters.

I think Castlevania adding RPG elements like loot drops and leveling is what seperated it from Metroid and solidified the Metroidvania term.

Probably not 4x as much ps5 sales had they unlimited supply, that’s a lot. It would be more than now but 4x would be a ton. The limited supply is also drawing a lot folks into demanding that wouldn’t otherwise, due to rarity, prestige of ownership of difficult to come by item, scalping, etc. maybe 2x but pretty unlikely it would’ve already sold 55-60 mil units. The mere fact people hear it’s rare and difficult to get creates a lot of extra interest and sales

Does scalping even work? Are there enough people desperate or foolish enough to buy a new console at the ridiculous prices scalpers charge or do these scalpers have piles of these consoles lying around saying "this wasn't such a good idea"

the only reason why this game didn't do well at e3 was it was from square enix. Fans of square enix hate it when japanese devs pander to western gamers with deus ex, kane and & lynch, tomb raider, hitman and now guardians of the galaxy. They want only japanese games because that is SE bread and butter they want japanese stuff (anime and manga so damn popular unlike western comics and movies and tv shows are all flopping everyday) japan has avoid "go woke, go broke" over the past 10+ years
