Shooting the new .40 caliber Glock 23 Gen 4. I'm firing 180 grain Federal ammo. You get a pretty good look at it in the basket.

In late 2017 I fell into the world of firearms, and what had begun as a goal of finding the one perfect home defense gun, I ended up stumbling on this man's channel. One firearm quickly turned into two, then two became a continuous journey. Now as a proud owner of 24 handguns, 5 rifles, 1 Shotgun, along with an amazing supportive wife😁, I still find my way back to enjoying one gun most of all. The good old Glock 23...

@TopDogRam , They work. Many of the ones I'm using in this video are older magazines. I think it's only when you reverse the mag release that the gun becomes restricted to new magazines. It's only an issue for lefties, and then only if they reverse the mag release.

@binyamj, I do that sometimes, but I like to eliminate as many variables as possible. I know that my lube works with all my guns. That way, if there's a malfunction, I know it's not the way it came lubed, or not lubed. Plus, a gun just seems to get lubed (cured) better the sooner I get it soaked in Ballistol.

@packjim56, In Tennessee, the dealer takes your information (driver's license, etc.) and calls it in for a background check. It generally adds no more than a couple minute's time to the transaction, that is provided your name is not John Smith, Bill Jones, or the same as some serial killer that is being sought. :-) Mine never takes more than a couple minutes, because I've always been a good boy! :-)

@TheWeeklyLawReports , The rear of the barrel drops down when the slide is back. It's what helps the gun feed so reliably; the round doesn't have to jump up a ramp so much as with the 1911. The same ammo that won't function reliably in a 1911 usually sucks right up in a Glock.

Glock 23 is an acquired taste. Frankly after extensive use. I still use it for my cc, and my backup. The forearm has alot of recoil when compared to the 9 or even the 45. I'm not an expert and I don't know why, but the 40 will remind you that it's like firing little bombs out of that barrel. I had bloddy thumb knuckle as a newbie cause I was holding so hard and wasnt used to recoil or grip. I found the pros outweigh the con. At the end if the day it's a tool. My biggest gripe is how lively the firearm is. It takes alot of practice and reprinting to eliminate that flinch and get proper aim on a 40 cal. Especially when you don't practice for a while. The 9 isn't as loud and the firearm isn't as lively so it's easier to draw and place rounds.

I've seen quite a few firearm reviews and I must say yours are the ones I like the best. You talk about the practical specifications of the piece without getting into technical details (how many grams it weighs or what the trigger resistance is in pounds, etc) that don't matter when you need to fire it. In firing the gun you also show the accuracy that can be had if the shooter is properly trained. Please continue putting out videos...I skip over others to view yours. Thanks, Mike

@KommandoOver9000 , I think you'd get some argument about some of that. It hits hard and has a lot of punch. Ballistics nerds have argued about 9mm vs .40 for decades, but I've shot them both at all sorts of things for about 20 years. If .36 caliber vs .40 caliber makes no difference, then size must not matter at all in handgun bullets. I'll take a 9mm OR a .40, though. Both are great cartridges.

I absolutely love my gen4 Glock 23, it's my first handgun and I have only ran about 150 to 200 rounds through her but so far she shoots like a dream, no malfunctions with the numerous different loads I've put through her. No ftf's or fte's and the thing is accurate, low recoil for the 40 s&w, and just goes bang every single time I pull the trigger. I have not tried any steel or aluminum cased ammo in it yet but I have a feeling they will shoot just fine :)

I'm not surprised, Glock's are extremely well made. And if it's a gen 1 it's gotta be pushing 25 to 30 years old, not to shabby for something made of polymer. There have been cases of original glocks shooting 100 to 200 thousand rounds or more and still continued to function over and over again.

The 23 was my first handgun purchase and I couldn’t have made a better decision. It’s so versatile. Service or carry. Comfortable and reliable. Plenty of stopping power.

@@darriusbumpass9208 Do you find it comfortable in your hand? I have big hands. Next time I go to the shop I'll see of they have a 27 I can try out. I also have a Model 22 that's a little older. I like it just fine I just favor the 23 for carry.

Hey Hickok, i was just wondering if I could get your opinion on something since you have some law enforcement background. I currently carry a Glock 22 Gen 4 on duty and have the option to carry the Glock 23. You've stated that you carried it on duty and I was just wondering if you would recommend it for duty purposes??? I feel like the grip on the 22 is way to large.

he just did an update. he crawfished back to the nine. G19 to be specific. to each his own. he's likely shot a hell of a lot of ammo thru both. more than me. i still prefer my G23.

Is that a serious question? It depends on the intended use, for home/self defense 40 s&w all the way, for hunting small game or practice/plinking 22 is better at that task. Pick the proper firearm and bullet for your purpose and you can't go wrong. Hope that gives you a better idea.

I am sold on the 23. Have been shooting and carrying it for a few years now. It's a natural fit in my hands and puts out a dependable 186 grams of stopping power. Great shooting Master Bullet Slinger - you are the best shooter I have seen with these Glocks. What a great country we live in!

Many commenters argue over 9mm v.s .45 acp. They both have valid arguments, so best way to settle this (personally anyways) is to just stick with 40 acp. Punches harder than 9mm, does less collateral damage than .45 acp. Perfect duty pistol.

"If I could have only one Glock it would be the Glock 23" - that's nice to hear. I watched this shortly after testing and purchasing one at a range, part of a police trade-in sale. I hadn't shot in years and fell in love with the G23 immediately. Shoots excellent. Reliable. Accurate. Great ergonomics. Couldn't be happier with my decision.
