We went to look at and purchase this ford cabover as a new shop truck but it was not in drivable condition and for the price towing 100 miles was just not an option. Also some title issues were concerns. Ad stated running driving with clean title. Just not the right deal to be made at this time.

I concur with other posts. Have the bloomin' title IN HAND before selling, period. If you "can't find it", file the paperwork and get it all straight, then WAIT until the new title comes in the mail, THEN put it up for sale. It's not hard, it just takes time.

Agreed. I sell a lot of cars and everyone asks if I have a title. In Indiana its in fact illegal to sell a car without a title. But done daily. But if I list it I have a title or its in the listing clearly. And thats only for parts or woods toys.

exactly, order the title, you will have it in 2 weeks, then post it for sale. I wish for sale sites required any vehicle sold without a title be listed as scrap only for scrap price. Would cut down some on scammers .

Titles are pretty easy to sort out IF you're dealing with the last person that had it was officially titled in their name. In this case absolutely not. It's doable but a lot of time and effort. This guy is just flipping and stretching the truth anyway he can. That sleeper is held on with drywall screws, that TIRE, always pass on a gas engine if someone has the air filter taken off as it will not get you home with the carb problems, etc.......

I'm sure there's probably the absolutely right truck out there (with a diesel) that's needing your operation to be its new home! Discretion is the better part of valor! On hearing that phrase I thought "Tyler's going for his keys". I don't know about the USA but my guess, based on what it's like over here, is that getting the title for a vehicle is fairly easy if you are the legitimate owner, but otherwise sliding down a stair rail with lots of rusty nails sticking out is more pleasurable.

I’ve run into no title excuses before, some very elaborate, but in every case I walked away. There’s no good reason to put up a vehicle for sale without a clear title. My last car purchase the seller offered to let me drive away while she paid off the lien on the car I was looking at. I told her to call me when she had the title in hand. She actually did a month later and the deal was done.

I drove these back in the 1960's for a U.S. mail contractor who had a fleet of these along with Ford OTR tractors for sectional mail centers logistics. The C's were great in the cities with high visibility and shorter turning radius. However they were not a very comfortable trucks after a few hours. The seat angle was always a problem to adjust. I was never crazy about getting in and out of them either. If one had a big belly it would rub against the steering wheel. Glad you passed on this because of the title problem. One needs to be suspect of anyone trying to sell a vehicle without the proper paperwork. I think this seller was looking for a farmer who would never take it out on the road and just forget about the title.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸Happy New Year…2024! The old Ford C model cabovers were great trucks! I drove a 65 C800 & loved it. It had the 391 5&2 speed. It has several bad spots that are prone to rust out, but that one looked pretty decent. It must’ve been a fire truck previously. I loved the sleeper, but whoever put it on sure didn’t know what they were doing! It’s a shame that he didn’t have the title issue worked out. I noticed that the cab seemed to raise up easily, so the cab springs aren’t worn out. Hope that you get that truck. I’m interested in the sleeper. Keep us posted on this truck. Blessings.🥰😎✌️

FWIW I think you guys made the right call, guys. It has potential but I am always uncomfortable when I discover that what I have been told isn't what I really find when I arrive and start looking at a vehicle for sale. You will find the right one for you if he doesn't come around on the price. That tire...and the split rim...no way would I have wanted to be seated directly on top of that on the run home!

I have an 85 C700 with the 500ci Detroit Diesel (4 stroke) only has 80k on it, it was a PGE truck, just aged out of service and sat on a farm for many years. I planned to make it electric/hybrid motorhome. In california you can't run a pre 2005 diesel anymore unless its a motorhome, so I got a vermont motorhome registeration/plate for it, so its legal. Only paid $500 for it, towing it was another $300..I'm just now replacing the clutch hydraulics (all rusted) and new front tires and hope to drive it to the new storage location. If interested in it, let me know, don't know if I will ever get to it these days.

I'll disagree with everyone. Using the Vermont process you can get the title no sweat as long as you double check online it's not stolen or has a lien. Love these COE's, a cummins would be epic! If you had a trailer to tow it and he comes down in price, I'd go for it.

RUN!!! Do not hide. Do NOT pass Go! Just RUN! I bet it is geared for about 3500 rpm at 60 mph. Would need a new diff. You would need a 100 gal gas tank just to get to town and back. Automatic tranny. No 2 speed axle? Not enough torque to haul 10 tires and wheels back from the tire shop. Or for your driveway. Let alone the hills in your area. 4-53 would maybe able to get to up to a reasonable speed but it really needs more gears than that tranny likely has available. That truck always had light loads. No current title? RRRRRUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been a while since I have seen a Ford C model which in there day were pretty good old trucks when gasoline was less than a buck a gallon because it didn’t matter what gas engine was in them trucks they would get maybe 10 miles to the gallon on a good day going down hill with a tailwind. Additionally even though Ford made those things virtually unchanged except for engine and transmission from 1957 to 1990. Even though they were made for 33 years they are not that common to see on the road because companies that ran them normally ran them into the ground and then canalized them for parts or just junked them as a result finding C models in the wild or in junkyards these days is pretty uncommon. Additionally when Ford sold its Heavy duty truck line to Freightliner in the late 1990’s they sold the rights to C model and Cargo lines which meant that Ford also stopped making any parts for these old workhorses. As much as I alike these old C Models the only way I would take one is if was basically given to me even one with a Diesel engine in it.

A truck without a title in hand is worth no more than scrap price to me. In some places that is an easy thing to fix, and in others can not be rectified, and you lose your money. C-model Fords have become somewhat collectible over the last few years, driving prices up more than they should be...in my opinion. All across the used vehicle market today people are placing rediculous prices on their vehicles. A vehicle with a clapped out body with a bad engine or transmission and tons of body work needed is priced more than a running and driving example of the same vehicle a year/ year and a half ago. It is crazy.

Adjust the clutch…. It’s an automatic so that’s how bad it is that you think it’s a manual

You might give Ross at RollingLiving a look. He’s got an old Ford C/O fire truck plus an old highway dept version of that truck. Maybe he might part with one if that’s what you’re looking for.

I've got the international version of this truck called a Cargostar. Gas motor 392. Really neat trucks, but painfully slow.

Manual or automatic? If manual, I would love to go for a spin, just only to relive the memories of those "whiny" sounding engines in the Loadstar 1700 buses I used to ride as a kid. But if I'm not mistaken, those buses likely had the 345 which is from the same engine family as the 392? Not sure if different displacements would affect engine sound.

@@michaelchan8915 Manual Eaton transmission (non synchro) with a 2 speed rear diff. Manual steering. It's a real chore to drive, but fun if nobody is behind me. They engines are all from the SV family. They came in 302, 345 and 392. The latter two shared the same block and intake architecture. I'm not an expert on them though.

@@Bread996 four speed or five? Cargostar? Is that the one with the funky column shifter or is it a floor shift that remains attached to the chassis even when the cab is raised?

@@michaelchan8915 5 speed Eaton. One super low gear, and 4 road gears. Cargostar. Floor shift, with the rear axle splitter on the side of the shifter like a big rig. Shifter stays on the chassis when the cab is tilted forward.

@@Bread996 Ahhhh okay. So 1st and reverse are on the gate to the far left, where 1st is forward and reverse is straight down. The way you drive it, is you always start off in 2nd and shift to 3rd, 4th and 5th and just leave the splitter in hi when empty? It's too bad you're not near my neck of the woods. I remember those trucks of the 70s being slow, but they all had some character. I vividly remember taking two school buses for a spin when I was in my late teens early twenties. Both were a mid 70s era Ford B600 or B700? One was a five speed. The other an Allison automatic. The five speed bus, you drive by treating 2nd as 1st gear, and I remembered being able to get that bus up to 65 miles an hour top speed. It was a struggle, but I was able to get it to that speed on the highway. The automatic bus was beyond painfully slow. I think I remembered being able to get that bus to max out at about 50 miles an hour. And that was with the pedal to the metal. I believe the engines in those school buses of that era would be a 361 V8.

I wonder if that thing was a fire/rescue truck in a previous life. Those holes beside the headlights aren't stock and could have been for emergency lights.

We have the same problem in the UK with people selling vehicles without the V5C document - our equivalent of a title. Normally their adverts follow with a line of bull of 'only takes a form from the post office and £25' - that is the case but then why haven't you done it 🤔 It'd make the thing a while lot easier to sell. Nah its because their not the registered keeper of the vehicle and although it's still possible to sort out and not too expensive but it does take a lot of time, as in months.
