Goongarrie Ghost Town - Western Australia

Goongarrie is 84 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie on the Goldfields Highway.
Billy Frost, Jack Bennett, Pickersgill and Cahill were prospecting in the area in 1893 before the big gold discoveries at Hannans.
They discovered gold in May 1893 and a settlement that included a number of hotels and businesses quickly sprang up.

Camped there in a tent about 20 years ago. Disappointing to see the buildings falling into disrepair.

There was an open cut mine active there in the late 1980's, which was a gold boom time thanks to the introduction of the CIP Process. Don't think the mine lasted long though. I remember because I stopped there on the way back from Leinster in late 1989. I was new to Australia & the Goldfields then. I will make it back up there at some stage.
