Making every vote count the same is called “proportional representation”. It’s how voting works in Germany; the system was put in place after World War II to ensure that a dictator could never take power there again. And it worked so well, we here in NZ copied it. It does almost inevitably lead to coalition politics: you get a range of political parties in Parliament, none with a clear majority, so they need to figure out how to work together to get things done. But most of us see that as a feature, not a bug. Time for the US to give it a try?

It seems like it should be necessary for elected officials (& their appointees) to pass security clearances, like anyone else who works with Intelligence. This could be an easily solved issue... would be remarkable if it didn't get bipartisan support. Here in the UK (I recently moved home), we can petition Parliament on any issue. If a petition gets more than 100,000 signatures, it has to be considered/ debated in the House of Commons. One calling for an early General Election after our new PM took office should be heard soon. 🤞🏼 Democracy.

@@sunshine3914 compared to the other guy, Biden is brilliant, but he's not great. And past Biden, 20/30 years ago was sharper but even more conservative. Back in the 90s he was basically a conservative. I'm so grateful for all he's done now, but still want, and we all need, better.

I got to say this, every night Seth brings his a-game in summarizing the incredible political and news events that we are experiencing in the US today. As a 63-year-old liberal white guy living in the middle of a red state, in the middle of the Midwest, I appreciate Seth's commentary everyday... Seth and his writers definitely know what the hell is going on, and wrong, with this country and they point it out to us every night on national teevee! Another thing I gotta admit is that before the pandemic I really didn't watch this show much. But as a nurse working overtime in a large urban hospital during this entire COVID pandemic I would come home at night, or in the morning, and before I went to sleep I would listen to Seth and Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah as each one of them told me how this country was so fucked up, and what we needed to do to fix it...with humor! I have literally watched people die from covid because they wouldn't get vaccine which could have protected them, because Trump and his scumbag co-conspirators at Fox News kept telling people they couldn't trust the vaccine, even though every goddamn one of them had been vaccinated as soon as possible. I hate these Trump MAGAt Republicans with the heat of 1,000 Suns. It gave me hope that we might be able to beat these fascists in my lifetime! Kudos to you Seth Meyers for bringing this to us every night...

Mind you he's dumb as a post and thinks abortion should be banned. Luckily they have no chance of winning. Unfortunately the guy running for state senate in my district will win despite being a piece of crap. He beat his teenage daughter. It's even on his Wikipedia page. He's currently serving now. Party of family values my ass...as long as it's pre 1973 values.
