The Sinquefield Cup sees Magnus Carlsen and 11 more of the world's best players compete in the Saint Louis Chess Club from 17-28 August 2019. The event is the fifth leg of the 2019 Grand Chess Tour. In addition to tour points the prize fund is $325,000, with $90,000 for 1st place.
Players receive 130 minutes for the entire game, with a 30-second delay from move 1. A tie for first place will be decided in a 2-game rapid mini-match (10 min + 5 sec delay), in case of just two tied players, and if necessary an Armageddon game (5 vs. 4) on 29 August at 13:00 local time. Why not take the pawn with queen?
@fredocarroll
@fredocarroll 4 жыл бұрын
If you're talk about events at 8:45, the reason would be that after Black queen captures pawn on a5, White replies with queen captures bishop on f6. There's no more material exposed for Black to capture, and no checks can be given, so Black is now up three pawns to two, but down a piece and poorly positioned.

7:58 -- Maxime might have held if he had found Qf6+ here before dealing with his bishop. (After Qf6+. Ke2, Bc3, the engine can find nothing better for White to do than perpetual check the Black king from d7 and h3. Black's queen on f6 prevents the White queen from establishing on e6, as was eventually played in the game.)
@faznaz7455
@faznaz7455 4 жыл бұрын
My engine does not agree with your assessment, it gives a decisive 1.75 advantage to white and slowly up to 2 if i let it run longer. After: ..... Qf6 Kg2 (not much difference) to Kg1)) ..... Bc3 Qd7+ Kh6 Bg8 Qh8 Assess that position, white has essentially caught Black in a zugszwang and is ready to push h4 and g4 to mate Black's king. Eventually Qg7 is necessary one way or another and it forces more concessions in Black's position.
