My Mexican mother in law will often the comment "ya/no estas lista para casarte" in regards to my wife's cooking, to the point where it has become an in joke between us. No doubt that Mexican culture is full of this kind of sexism, but I have just as little understanding of women who feel more liberated for not being able to cook. In Denmark, where I'm from, it is expected of both sexes (and of guys especially) to be able to cook a healthy and delicious meal, so when I hear people brag about only being able to cook rice it sounds like someone saying that they can only wear velcro shoes because laces are just too advanced. Sorry about the ranting, but it honestly baffles me, whether I hear it from guys or girls. Love your videos though, keep on rocking! P.S. I can highly recommend spicing things up by looking up a recipe for Mexican Rice - it isn't a huge step up the difficulty ladder, and is really delicious once you get the hang of it :)

This is the first time I reply to one of your videos but I just had to. My grandma (que en paz descanse) used to tell my mother that I was not going to be able to get married because I did not know how to make tortillas the old fashion way using a metate and that no man would want to marry me. My mother also thought similarly because I did not know how to cook a lot of meat, not that I need to since I am vegetarian. But even so that doesn't seem to be stopping me.

What's sad for me is that i have a young grandma (she's still in her 50's) who is the nicest person and has a brilliant mind but because she was born into a poor family and married an asshole of a man that makes her cook and clean in his restaurant 7 days a week all that potential was wasted. The thing is... My mother can't cook for the life of her. Like if she and my dad got divorced and she won custody of me and my sister we would eat fast food. Every. Single. Day. She would not even be able to provide us with food if our father wasn't there because she can't shop for produce either. She'll pick the rotten ones by mistake. And try to make us eat it because she would still have no idea they weren't good.
