Stopped by my Triumph dealer to see whether the new 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro (and the 2024 BMW R1300GS) had arrived yet, and luckily there was one Tiger on-site ... so new it was not even put on the showroom floor! It was late on Saturday so not much time for me to take a more extensive test ride, which was fine since I only intended to check out the differences with the 2023 model, which I own. Main changes of interest for me to test were the increased engine output, enhanced braking, reduced handlebar vibrations, and the new dash display. That does not take long to experience and I got it covered. Also covered in this video are the differences in trim between the 2023 and 2024 models, compared literally side by side in the parking lot. Lastly I discuss how my major accessories might transfer over to the 2024, should I decide to upgrade.

Thanks for the comment. In my case I didn’t miss that the air filter was easy to change … I never had a Tiger before so no basis for comparison. 😊 I would bet that you will *never* see a review video mention something like that unless the person (a) has a previous year off the same model, (b) they actually worked on their bike themselves, and (c) they had difficulties accessing the air filter in the past. 🤔 Owning and reviewing are two different things, and sometimes the best reviews can come from owners, but then there is bias to consider.

Nice comparison! I did a test ride on a new RP this past Thursday and was impressed. Had been using a 2020 AT ES for on and off road duty the past few years, but gave into the siren call of a Ducati V4 MS Rally this past September. The AT was a great bike, but the Duc in just amazing. With the road biased Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires, I've avoided mud and anything more challenging than fire roads with the Ducati. Lately I have thought about buying a used DR or similar for off road and leave the Ducati for twisties and touring. Then the Tiger 900 RP started catching my attention. Have been considering buying a used 20-23 900 RP, but then I like the upgrades Triumph is bringing to the table for 24. Your timing for this comparison was perfect for me.

Such a detailed review. I got the same dilemma between the GS and the Tiger also. I guess it makes more sense buying a already existing, reliable, more affordable bike like the Tiger makes more sense, but the new GS actually looks good for me and owning a GS actually is something I want to try out.

Good in-depth review, I have a 2021 Gtpro from new and it has 17000 miles on the clock, I absolutely love it, yes there are a few improvements to the 2024 model but not enough to warrant putting another £4500 / $5800 to it to change………plus the fact not a lover of the new tft when you moved the speed/rev counter to the left side to include trip the circle was squashed and went oval, yes there were some complaints about the 23 tft but I find it very informative and easy to navigate through the menu’s. The new colours and graphics are very nice, they’re a great bike and the 23 model has enough power for me 😀so I’ll keep mine till the replacement model raises its head, thanks again

Thanks for the comment. I hear you on the new screen ... I just saw another review which mentioned that in order to get the information that one prefers, one has to kind of keep it in "menu mode", which does as you described, and I noticed the circular speed / tach display becoming oval - which I agree is irritating and would keep me from using that menu-mode workaround. *BUT* at least I don't get to see the dumb *winged" tachometer that is on my bike.

Another good video thanks. Looking for a bike for two-up riding in hot climates (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, etc). Like the idea of the Rally Pro with better suspension for some of the less than perfect roads in this part of the world. A little concerned about all the heat coming onto the legs as I'll routinely be riding in temps between 85-105F. How bad would you anticipate the heat to be in this kind of climate?
@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The Rally Pro handles poor roads with ease that’s for sure. The heat from the radiator blowback is pretty hot on the front of the thighs, and if riding in those temperatures the radiator fans will likely be on more often than not. Heat deflectors can be bought from Ali Express but they don’t help that much, but better than nothing I suppose. Best thing is to angle your legs outwards a bit to get the thighs out of the heat. Of riding steadily, like on a highway, the heat on your legs is not so bad as the wind rushing by helps dissipate the heat better.

@@GrumpyGoat Thanks for the feedback. My riding will be a combination of smaller roads, some highway and quite a bit of riding around congested cities such as Bangkok. I'm currently in Singapore trying to find a demo bike to ride before heading to Thailand, but so far no luck. At the moment, the heat is my only real concern on the Triumph. I have seen a couple of videos on the deflectors, but they seem a bit hit and miss. Hopefully I can find a bike to demo. I was also looking at the 2024 Africa Twin, but after contacting may dealers and Honda HQ in Thailand, nobody is able to tell me when, or even if, that will be released in Thailand. At least I know the Tiger is available so that's risen to the top of my list, pending a demo ride. Thanks again for all your info. It's been very valuable.

Very nice video, l'm wondering if the compression bump (11:1 to 13:1) between two models is a big enough reason to sit this one out. l know Triumph has amazing 3 Cylinder engines l have a Tiger 800 2016 XCA myself, but you know what they say never get the first version of anything and l wonder if that point is valid for this case.
@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 3 ай бұрын
Thanks. The compression increase from 11.3 to 13.0 (per Triumph website) will likely cause the minimum recommended fuel to be greater than 87 AKI, but that’s about all I’d be able to guess regarding the engine. It’s not totally new, but some components were revised. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a risk, and for me it’s not a concern is worry about. The bigger concern would have been for the jump to the current engine (2020-2023 models) from your engine - that was a totally new engine design change. Since there is no comparison between your engine and the engine in my 2023 or the new 2024 (due to the T-plane crank and 270 degree phase angle), it would be better to test the bike out from that standpoint, before making a decision whether you want to change.

Nice test comparison 👍🏻Put screen saver on for glare 👍🏻. How tall are you please? Ref the screen. I’m looking at either a AT 1100 24 or a Tiger 900 rally pro 24. Tiger is much better equipped (has just about everything you’d want as standard), AT ES has superb suspension and real nice colours (tiger not so nice) but only has heated grips.

@GrumpyGoat 3 ай бұрын
Thanks. Yes, Speedo Angels would be among the first mods - they work very well and include an anti-glare option. I am 5'-8" with a 31" inseam with normal torso length. I find the Tiger screens to be one of the best standard screens I have ever sampled, and have no plans to change it. The AT is a great bike and if you can live without the creature comforts then is a great option. The RP should be a better off-road machine while they should be similar for road touring. The AT may be more top-heavy and is heavier than the RP.

Thanks for the comment. I can almost flat foot the Rally Pro. With a 31” inseam, both heels almost touch the ground and I am totally comfortable with the reach. Going from a smooth triple like on the Tiger XR to a bike with a T-plane crank and 270 degree firing order will be a big difference. My previous bike was a 2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT with the CP3 engine that was turbine smooth, and at first I did not appreciate this engine’s feel. But I got used to it fairly quickly and now it’s nice. Have to say I'm very impressed with the 2024 model. I believe it's the best version of this generation by far. I noticed the aux lights are mounted higher now too, which makes putting a high fender on there a lot easier. It appears to be quite a bit smoother even without the aftermarket tuning which is nice on the highway. Those extra vents on the front fairing appear to be just aesthetic in my opinion, we would still need to install vent deflectors for those hot days in the sun and keep our legs from burning off

The 2024 RP has different geometry in the cockpic...a bit higher and a bit futher back...like 30mm and 20mm (as most added that exact riser block to the 2020-23 models. It's an upgraded exhaust too, and seat as you pointed out, more HP and 10% better fuel economy, and of course far better TFT Display User interface, better stock tires too. I know the Upper and Lower crash bars for Outback Motortek, that worked on the 2020-2023 models, DO in fact work on the new 2024 model, but NOT the bash plate. My 900 RP has 3k miles on it, and I'd love to get this new 2024 model actually. Not sure it's doable but Id def like to.

When I was thinking of purchasing the Tiger 900 I was also of the same mindset. I am a commuter & long distance rider, with aspirations of going off-road occasionally to get to a remote location for motocamping or to get the best views. So I was also thinking that the GT Pro would be better than the Rally Pro. Like you I liked the spoked wheels but at 5'-8" I was mostly concerned about reaching the ground. See this initial test ride on a Tiger 900 Rally which helped seal the decision: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbWKa8WKqOCapaM.html To answer your question: The Rally Pro would be just as comfortable on the highway as the GT Pro, since the only difference is in the suspension. When cruising that makes no difference in the riding experience. If you like to ride the twisties a lot and will not be riding on highways for long distances then maybe the GT Pro is better. Also if you ride with full load or a pillion to a significant degree, then the GT Pro is better since it has automatic rear pre-load adjustment. I am very pleased with the Rally Pro as a long-distance highway bike even fully loaded, and with the long-travel suspension it handles bumpy stretches (e.g. construction zones) like riding on a magic carpet. I have other videos that would probably answer your question better than this comment.

Muffler is different to meat Euro 5+ instead of Euro 5. Also, according to Triumph muffler work was required anyway due to changes in the engine. I actually felt with my butt that previous tiger seat was more comfortable for me when I test road it in November. Interesting that everyone keeps saying this one is better. I can tell that this seat doesn't allow any vibrations to be felt, unlike previous one. I actually placed a deposit for this particular bike on Fri. It's funny how people see colors differently. This color (ash grey / intense orange) to me is very beautiful (I think only Ducati DesertX is better looking bike which was the only real competition to this Triumph for me. But at the end I sacrificed the fun, handling and agility of Ducati to get better comfort with Triumph, but have less fun. My bike is going to be is going to be used to travel Europe 3 months at a time (no motorway use), thus comfort ir very important).

I think that you made the same choice I would make. I also think that the Tiger is the best looking middleweight ADV bike, and certainly better than the Ducati. Proportions are sweeter to my eyes. However, as you said GS 1300 felt so heavy to just move it around in the car park, or try to do a u-turn. That's why I didn't choose it. GS also a king for comfort, the seat, the sitting position, the space for leg room. Every bike should just copy that.

Sounds like you tested it on the road, right? If so, I’m not surprised at all. The Tiger has a 21” front wheel vs the 19” on the GS, and there may be other differences that would contribute to better road handling. The Tiger may be better off road though, not that it handles poorly on the road; it doesn’t. But yes pushing the bike around by hand there would be no comparison, largely due to the weight. As for the speed, there is no comparison. I have an R1200RS as the other bike, and it’s 50% more torque almost makes the Tiger seem like a moped.

@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 2 ай бұрын
Sales persons will say anything to make the sale and this one is no different. Just look at the design of the newly added "slot" in the fairing - it is placed *towards the end* of the outflow from the radiator. There is _nothing_ to cause the flow to suddenly divert through a hard 90 degree turn and exit through the slot. To my mind, any hot air bleeding through this slot will have done so by accident. That slot is there for aesthetics, nothing more. The hot air will still exit through the large unchanged pathway, as on the earlier 2023 and before model. Just have to accept the hot air and get the deflectors off Ali Express - they should help. Video to come after I install mine.

I mentioned, towards the end of the riding bit, that for me I would want to try the new R1300GS before I decided on what next to do because of my motorcycle needs - nothing to do with comparing the Tiger 900 to the GS, feature for feature. That would be absurd. *However* comparing them based on one’s _motorcycling needs_ is neither absurd nor unfair. I have no interest in Tiger 1200. If I’m going to go with a full weight ADV bike at that price point, it would be a BMW and it would be a GS.
