These days, Bob Seger is one of the staples of classic rock radio, as hits like “Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Against the Wind” seem like they’ve been around forever. However, it took Seger quite a long time to become the hit-making machine that he was in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Seger’s first hit came in 1969, but it didn’t stick, and he wasn’t a mainstream success until the mid-'70s. From his biggest hit that wasn’t even meant for him to the song he helped the Eagles write, let’s take a look at the untold truth of Bob Seger.

My grandma dated Bob Seger in high school in Ann Arbor (my whole family’s from Michigan). She says he would come into the restaurant her dad owned and he’d ask for the pretty lady to take his order (my grandma). Every time I play his music she gets so happy.

To add a personal observation about Bob Seger. In the mid to late 80s my daughter dated a guy who managed one of the local clubs in the Detroit area. Actually close to Royal Oak, his home turf. She ended up being at the club a lot and Seger was a regular patron. She was always impressed by his quiet unassuming ways. He came in with the attitude of a regular guest, no fan fare, no real entourage, just a regular guy. (And in that area he could have received a standing ovation any time it became known who he was) but he wanted none of that. However, what he did ALWAYS do was leave his waitress $100 tips and then went quietly on his way. My daughter's opinion of him was not only a genuinely nice man but a gentleman in the best sense of what that means.

I had the opportunity to meet him in the early 70s. He was between sets. We were sitting at a table in front. He came over and sat down at out table. He was quiet spoken, and very personable. We drank a beer together. I told him he had an Amazing sound, and I liked his music,to which he laughed and said thank you, that makes three!! He was still on the rise back then, but I knew he would make it! It was in 74 at bar in Dallas Tx. Great night.

I first met Bob in the early 60's when he was working with Doug Brown - as mentioned a friendly, decent and unassuming fella with a love for music. I ran into him, perhaps a dozen times since, and always found him to be pretty much the "same guy" - this, despite his having acquired fame & fortune. Unfortunately, and due to circumstances that pass understanding, I haven't spoken to him since the 90's. I do, however, wish him well in what is now, surely his retirement !!

Something about his music that just makes you want to get on a bike and go without locking back. I went to one of his concerts on his last tour. (was 23 at the time). No joke, I did not see a single person my age or younger. I have to say his concert was the absolute best concert I had ever been too. The fact that this man sang 22+ songs and every single one was a master piece is unbelievable. Its bittersweet knowing that every other concert I go to, wont be as great as that one.

But it was the first row off of the main floor, with the stage to the right. No trying to look through heads and shoulders as he made his way around the stage. What really struck me about the show was how many times he thanked the audience for coming out. John R Ziemba i totally agree. he was so kind through the whole show and even took time to thank all the members and crew and gave them credit about awards and things they’d won and been nominated for. he truly is my favorite artist.

He was not a “one hit wonder” prior to “Night Moves.” The 1974 song “Kathmandu” reached #43 on the charts. I also love the title track from that 1974 album “Beautiful Loser.”

My parents were HUGE fans and I grew up listening to him. There was a running joke that however my dad had his hair, the next Seger album would match. So if my dad's hair was long, so was Bob's....if my dad cut, then so had Bob. It was hilarious. His music is absolutely timeless and will forever remind me of my dad

I saw Bob when he was with the System in the late 60's on the east side of Toledo, Ohio....I was 10 feet from him the whole night....No stage.... He and the band were playing on the dance floor...It was on a Sunday afternoon and my friend and I were dropped off there.....The place was called The Hullaballoo....What a memory...Thanks....Rambling Gambling' Man....I still play it today....

I am almost 63 now. First saw Bob Segar and The Silver Bullet Band in 77. Nothing like waiting for a concert to start. now the lights go off. The band takes the stage. I have been to many concerts by that point in my life. NOTHING was like the sound of this band. To say they were tight would be a understatement. It was a WALL on sound. I was lucky enough to see Bob 6 times in my lifetime. I ALWAYS wanted to see him play in Michigan. That the place of his most diehard fans like myself. In closing Bob said it best. ROCK AND ROLL NEVER FORGETS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Born in 63. Grew up hearing his music and I truly loved this man. I'm from Seattle originally and he got played in my house daily, don't like it leave. I always seemed to have a different taste in music than my peers...strange that everything I love is now "iconic". Bob would not approve of that title I don't think, but it shows how twisted the world really is.

The guy narrating this apparently have been badly misinformed. Live bullet absolutely one of if not the top live music recordings of all time. He Left out some of the greatest music such as, Turn the Page, old time rock and roll, Beautiful Loser and on and on. Seger was to the 80s what Skynyrd was to the 70s. Hands down best 80s rock band of all time. Still listen to his music . And never gets old,, of course we have to give a shout out to the Swampers. Bob wrote the songs and the Swampers helped put music to it. Someone once said "they've been known to pick a song or two"
