@ThirrinDiamond8 ай бұрын
@@driesvanc8764 it's not quite that, it's more tevyes character. He throughout the movie loves to discuss and think things through but people almost always shoot him down or ignore his ideas and the wisdom he does have. So what he wants is to be intellectually stimulated and met as an equal. He also wants to *discuss* his faith, not blindly follow it. It's an admirable position to have in any belief but it's clear that in this character's case he wants to be seen as who he feels he is inside rather than how society/class/circumstances forces him to act/behave. That's why the scene of him rejecting his daughter hurts so much to witness, he's too broken at that point due to all he's faced to be able to choose his child. His character is really interesting and most importantly, realistic, to many unsung men who have existed throughout history ^__^

I love that as the song progresses, we learn what his priorities are In the first verse its things that’s his immediate concerns. More money because he wouldn’t have to do hard labor as he’s doing right now, and farm animals because he’s starving The second verse is things he really want but don’t have. A wife he can pamper and provide for, and the respect and adoration of his community And lastly the thing he wants more than all. Being able to spend more time on his religion
