Description:
The nightmare isn't over as unstoppable killer Michael Myers escapes from Laurie Strode's trap to continue his ritual bloodbath. Injured and taken to the hospital, Laurie fights through the pain as she inspires residents of Haddonfield, Ill., to rise up against Myers. Taking matters into their own hands, the Strode women and other survivors form a vigilante mob to hunt down Michael and end his reign of terror once and for all.

One really genius thing is that when Michael is killing the cop in the flashback, he's strangling him with a rope. In the original film, Sheriff Bracket says that someone stole a mask, knife and some rope. This is that rope.

My only remaining complaint comes with Karen's death, not that she's dead, or sees little Mikey in Judith's bedroom window, but how it happens. There are cops are on scene, bodies are still in the house, and yet she is able to go into an active crime scene and be murdered with only her and Michael upstairs. I'm still struggling with the suspension of disbelief on that of all things. I am looking forward to the day that I have watch Halloween, Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

@@mattstorm6568 that's not true at all, that scene was added in to show how Michael was captured on Halloween night 40 years ago. In Halloween 2018 they state Michael was captured by Hawkins on Halloween night and he was put into captivity for 40 years. Everyone wanted to know how Michael was captured so the director made sure to add it into the second film of the new trilogy and it does a great job.
@mattstorm6568
@mattstorm6568 2 жыл бұрын
@@denofthieves6587 I saw the '18 film, I was never "wanting to know" how he was captured, I certainly didn't need to see some forced plot point of Lonnie meeting Michael and while some specific shots looked good Loomis looked horrible when they zoomed in on his face and his dialogue was awkward and out of place and added nothing to the film. I'm noticing there seems to be 2 types of Halloween fans, people who just want to see over the top kills and fan service every 30 sec no matter how silly and forced - and people who want suspense, buildup, and an actual story. I'm in the 2nd group, If you're in the 1st I'm not saying that as an insult, to each his own and it's great you're able to enjoy this film. I liked a lot of what they did in '18 but some stuff kept me from really liking it and I'd hoped they'd work on that instead they just decided to go full steam ahead with the gratuitous fan service.

There is something else supernatural about him. In the flashback scene where the cop yells at Michael to stop. Myers turns, looks at him and turns the corner. The cop gives chase and rounds the corner and he's gone. He disappeared in a matter of less than 5 seconds in a dead end with nowhere to go. 2 other cops arrive to the same dead end and the first cop say "he vanished" or something similar. He's either got superhuman running and jumping ability, or he has a way to teleport

I felt sad when Michael looked like he died , it would’ve been sad despite him being a maniac slasher . I also loved seeing Tommy doing his best to stop Michael , Lonnie was genuinely a relatable and great character and his death was tragic , same with Cameron . Bracket was great too !! especially with “ everyone’s entitled to one great scare !!” and what’s tragic is that he was so close to avenging Annie . Allyson was also great too , she went from scared teen to certified badass in one night and I’m excited to see her in Halloween Ends . The idea of randomness and the unknown, in my opinion, is what makes Halloween 1978 so scary! Once they started trying to put motivation behind Michael’s rage and a loose story in the later movies, it lost something. I absolutely love the fact that all he wants to do is kill and go home. Much like The Strangers or the first Paranormal Activity, it’s terrifying when there is no rhyme or reason, it makes you feel so much more uneasy. Motivation and story can work, but sometimes it ruins the real feeling of dread which is the best part of horror.

I completely agree you said everything I’ve been thinking. My mother loves horror movies and she made us love them too. I saw Halloween 1978 in 1998( I was 8 years old) randomly on a Sunday evening. My siblings and I were sitting on her bed while she was folding clothes and she put Halloween on. We just sat there infatuated because we never saw anything like this. We were calm and quiet during the whole movie until the end when Loomis shoots Michael and goes to the balcony showing Michael disappeared and then the theme music came on and we were petrified 😂 I was so scared and I took six pillows and surrounded myself with them as if it were protection. Lol I’ll never forget that feeling because there was no motive no plot just a random man in a white scary ass mask killing teenagers. Nothing will ever top the original. I actually wish that the 1978 version was the only version because the sequels never measured up to the original. Although I do enjoy 2/4/5/H20 and 2018 because it was "different."

The way they reminded everyone who Michael Myers is, was so badass. From the twisting the tool after coming out of the burning house, "like basically preparing for total annihilation and then the ending in which in still picks up the mask in front of everyone, and continues looking around. It's so badass and so well done.

When you went on that Expectations tangent at the beginning, it made me re-evaluate everything about how my expectations played a role with what I thought of the movie. I had not only built up in my mind that this movie would not only be on par with Halloween 2018 but I had also unintentionally created a version of the movie I expected to see and that’s why I wasn’t impressed with the movie as the previous film because my expectations were too high and that is why I really want to see it again because I know I will fully and more clearly comprehend everything the movie was trying to do

Loved this review! I'll admit that I thought the movie was jumping around a lot, but it really helped set the mood of panic and confusion the movie was going for. And I wholeheartedly agree that Michael was the main character here! His almost childlike sense of humor really came out with a lot of the kills, just like the bedsheet ghost prank from the original 1978 Halloween, you can really tell he wants to give his victims a good scare before he goes in for the kill. Alyson and Karen really got to step it up in the badass department too - I can definitely see how they're related to Laurie. Never been more excited for Halloween than I am now, can't wait for you to start covering Halloween Ends!

Hawkins was never declared dead. he got stabbed in the neck and was almost ran over by his own car. other reviewers got this wrong as well. so, it is not a retcon. it's the way the shot was done from where he was laying. i binged watched from the 1978 movie, then the 2018 movie and after that halloween kills. i loved it, i think halloween kills really made michael the killer force he was meant to be and that shot at the end pretty much says, laurie and michael are going to fuck each other up in the halloween ends. overall score for this one is a 9/10.

After watching for a second my feeling toward this movie is that It was one of the best movies in the franchise. The only problem I had the constant evil dies tonight being said over and over again. Micheal stole the movie everytime he was on screen I truly felt fear for the characters and the score was so great. I'd put this up there and this is tied for my list as one of the best halloween movies in the franchise. The story of Michael being the embody of evil and how no matter what he kept killing I'm super excited for halloween ends.

I feel like no one's bringing attention to the end of the flashback. The way Michael stood outside the house surrounded by cops was almost exactly how he was stood outside the house when he was 6 after killing Judith when his parents came home. It's an obvious one, but I REALLY liked it. It just suggests a autonomous "job done" quality to Michael that we kind of always knew was there, but kind of just solidified him more as the killing machine we know. Standing on the porch of Laurie's burning compound was kind of the same too, as he stared out across the field firefighters staring back.

I really didn't enjoy this film. Failed in continuity and Michael slaughtering the first responders and a massive amount of seemingly well prepared group of community "avengers" while on his stomach with a knife in his back was well beyond reality. I feel the poor patient running and hiding all over the hospital was just a distraction for the audience, and don't you think Laurie would set up an elaborate trap for Michael if she knew there was another room with some sort of a safety door for him to protect himself from that fire? I did enjoy the easter eggs such as the "Season of the Witch" (1982) masks, the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital logo on the uniforms from "Halloween II" (1981). The Dr Loomis impersonator gave me chills. That actor really did look so much like Pleasance. Halloween Ends will really have raise the bar in order to redeem this movie.

Couldn’t agree more. No real focus just a bunch of jump around and random kills. They should’ve focused on more than a gay couple living in the Myers house and killing off every memorable character from the original film. Then ending with Jamie and Michael breathing into a window?? Then hearing David Gordon Green say that there going to time jump in the next film I mean Wtf!!! And them chasing the other escaped mental patient WTH it was a waste of filming they should’ve had more straight forward direction. And John Carpenter gave Michael a shadow like affect and suspense not blood guts and gore. Kills reminded me of Rob Zombies movies 2.0 not digging it.

"Halloween Kills is one of the greatest Halloween sequels I've ever seen!" COMPLETELY AGREE! THANK YOU! People want it to be something it isn't, I suppose. "The characters are easy to hate!" Yes, the best slashers do that so it is fun to watch them die. Scream did it. I Know What You Did Last Summer did it. Original F13 did it. Original Halloween did it (stupid cops, anyone?). This felt like a continuation of Halloween even more than Halloween 2018 did, it set the very tone the originals did. Yes, it's loaded with cheese. But it serves its purpose to set up classic 80's slasher fun. Awesome theater experience. Drop the expectations of a horror film. Drop wanting a lot more story in a 2nd chapter (if Star Wars understood this, the sequel trilogy wouldn't be nearly as pathetic as it was. Empire Strikes Back, arguably the greatest Sequel of any movie ever made next to Godfather 2, understood this.)

This was a perfect review, Jimmy. Couldnt agree more with everything you said. Too many people are hanging on the rough dialogue, but at the end of the day these are popcorn movies. Michael is the sickest weve ever seen him and that alone was good enough for me and worth seeing it twice in theaters.

Cool video, Jimmy! I really enjoy your videos! Yeah, I thought Halloween Kills was awesome! The beginning flashback to 1978 was amazing, and the Dr. Loomis appearance and look was truly phenomenal and authentic. The voice of Dr. Loomis in HKills was a little deeper than Donald Pleasence - the phrasing and articulation of his voice in HKills was a little different from Pleasence's voice, but those are just subtle little nuances I notice from being a musician and paying attention to tonal differences...bahaha. Really no complaints. I thought they did the best they could with Dr. Loomis voice, which is still REALLY good! And they totally nailed it on the Dr. Loomis look! The 1978 flashback was emotional, moving, and was intriguing! Overall, I loved the movie and would rank it high in my top favorite Halloween movies. I saw it in theaters on Thursday night, and then rewatched it on Peacock Friday night. It is definitely worth rewatching.

I really only have two issues: I don’t like how Marion went out. I love the line “This is for Dr Loomis!” But she goes out like a bitch imo. I preferred her death in H20. Also the editing in the final battle wasn’t that great. When Karen goes up to Judith’s room, we see Michael kill Tommy in tangent. So when he shows up to kill Karen, it feels really sudden. That being said, I adore this film. I love all of the returning characters like Tommy and Cameron. Good lord Cameron got a ton of development. Michael was absolutely brutal and I also loved the characters set up to die like the gay couple and old folks in the beginning. They were really funny and I got upset when they died. Stan Little and Big Johnny Karen helping the insane guy was so upsetting to me. Allison, Karen, Tommy, and Lonnie steal every scene they’re in and I loved it. The flashbacks holy hell. Seeing Loomis caught me off guard. I dunno how I felt about Hawkins living because there’s no way he should be alive, but he gets so much development and the scene of him talking with Laurie in the hospital bed legit made me tear up. I had so much fun watching this film. I got chills from the action and the street fight at the end kicked ASS. Also Oscar and Julien’s cameos rocked. I love those two. And the deaths hit hard for me. Every death broke my heart from Cameron, to Lonnie, to Tommy, to the firefighters, to Little and Big Johnny, to the elderly couple, etc

I think Karen was actually hallucinating that. The more I think about it the more I realize that there was no way Michael was getting jumped and was able to make it back to kill Karen. Its the only explanation for her seeing a young Michael Myers in the window.

@@joeiorio9654 I don't know maybe she did hallucinate all of it. I cant really say. If you watch it though she's staring out the window and suddenly experiences this euphoric feeling like the soul of Judith came into her or something and then Michael is suddenly there and starts killing her exactly how he kills Judith. The music feels similar too. Its the only thing I can't think of to explain why she saw child Myers in the window. At first I thought it was her still seeing Michael like a child. If you notice she represents the naive side of the audience who doesn't understand Michael, his motivations. She believes in the order of things and I think she agrees with Hawkins that at his core Michael is a 6 years old boy trapped in that body and he can be saved or rehabilitated so she goes up there to try to understand him. If you notice the guy she tries to help was an inmate at the asylum Michael escaped from on the same bus. He also is the same guy with the white umbrella. He's an inmate so we don't know what he did to get put there but Karen believes in his innocence of being Michael tries to save him from the mob. However he could be a rapist or murderer for all we know so in my mind that's why she pays the price for it and dies because she's still so naive of what Michael actually is and Laurie understands it completely. Or she completely hallucinated it but they hint that Laurie feels the death of her daughter as she's looking out the glass at the hospital. Really hard to tell honestly.

@@joeiorio9654 or Michael is supernatural and can teleport. But even that has problems when you realize he's killing on his way back to his childhood home and just doesn't instantly teleport there.

I love it too. I actually laughed a bit when Myers goes back to finish Cameron off. Only question I have is how did Myers get into the house and kill Karen with no one seeing him going up the stairs. Maybe it will be set up in ends as a vision or dream that Karen sees how Judith died?

Yeah, I really disliked that twist. It was corny. But I don’t think it’ll be a dream given that there’s a time-jump and Michael answers Karen’s phone when Laurie calls.
