Pure beauty! There’s not even 1 cymbal smith here in the Czech Republic. I wish I were a bit younger to start this.

That’s amazing! I love watching these videos. I really liked how the first cymbal looked right after the first round of hammering. Looked a lot like a Dark Energy ride.

Thanks for these videos! Lots of awesome info. What I can observe from this is that the circular pattern is very good for getting that umbrella shape and the horizontal pattern works better to get a flatter cymbal. Great educational content for sure!

They both have their uses, but for me I like the spiral hammering to get a rapid growth into a taller shape.

Another video about profiles, it’s hard to express how much value these have for me as a player, to understand how they work. Hammering is such an interesting process, very high in complexity - the resting info shows how the metal is “alive”. I know you’re hitting the cymbals with big hammers, what do you think to that regular playing with sticks over 10-15 years can change a cymbal? I don’t know if that is a thing, I’m just curious. Just as water over a very long time can shape rocks.

Yeah! Consistent use vs. a cymbal being unplayed makes a huge difference. The constant movement/stretch of the metal keeps things more loose and open. If a cymbal sits for years or decades it gets really stiff and it takes some consistent playing to get it to open back up. Thanks for watching!

I think you're putting out some excellent content in these recent cymbal videos. Do you buy cymbal blanks? Do you recommend any blank suppliers for people that want to mess around with hammering at home?

Hey, thanks for watching! I get my blanks from multiple suppliers all over the world. The best first place to reach out is any of the Turkish foundries, but lately they have been less than reliable. It's always a chance to order from them or any of the chinese factories, but if you reach out to one they will usually offer to sell you some blanks! Just be careful.

Just a suggestion, but I'd be interested in paying a reputable middle man to supply decent blanks since I'd only probably only be interested in messing around with one or two. Maybe you could sell blanks since you're already working with the blank suppliers.
