This is so cool! Thanks - I think I can do it. Lol I have a 2002 Heritage with 186,000 + miles on her. A shop in Deadwood, SD messed her up recently - she’s leaking from the inspection cover. I rode her home to Maryland & every morning there was a spot under her. She’s NEVER had a leak in 13 years. I watched your video merely because I wanted to see how easy it was to take the cover off - I just need to replace the gasket. :) Thanks

Wow...gotta tell em , about checking the chain, at the tightest point, and to jack it up, take plugs out,and dry shift the bike to 5th gear, and turn the back wheel/chain incriments of 10 inches, all the way till chain, makes it full circle, then adjust primary chain as needed!!! come on, was that , that hard...Damn!!

Thanks for the info. I'm replacing the gasket on the inspection cover and needed to know how to remove the cover. After removing the screws I couldn't get the cover off. Now I see it's simple. Thanks again.

Pro Tip use a piece of firm rubber hose or a dowel rod to measure chain slack. Put it on the chain mark it push it up to take slack out of the chain then mark again and measure.

Nice video, I appreciate you taking the cover off to give us a better visual. What would be the main problem when the chain is too loose? Would it make any noises at all or would it just cause it to jump the gear?

The left thumb is where you should put the ruler.

Now the only reason you took the primary cover off was to show how the screw and the bolt with the teeth look once exposed! However you did so that we could see the close up, what you did manage to give your viewers was after the fact, so what I couldn’t see before I wasn’t able to see afterwards!! You always make very good video and this was no different you just left out one very important fact that you yourself brought up that you wanted to point out but completely over looked! Which is how to adjust the chain and how this bolt you unfasten actually looks with the cover off the camera was to far away for that to be seen before you started measuring the chain with your tape measure!!

Maybe in a different segment you might mention any aftermarket Derby covers if they use the torque specs they will probably break the holes out where the bolts go in the Derby cover. Just to give people a caution in torquing the derby cover bolts or screws. Whatever the case.

Great video, Question ? Should the primary be checked in 1 spot for tightness & Adjust from there ? Or should chain be checked in other spots and adjust ? I have seen several different videos on this matter Many stating that primary will be lose or tight in other spots as they age/ mileage And should be adjusted in the place with most play . Your video looks much easier to do and understand .Thanks for your time

notice at around 5:12 the chain is close to his gear shifter rod is that safe? I know when you torque or slow down the chain moves and could hit that rod or I may be wrong

You forgot to put primary fluid back in!....it would of been funny as can be if you said at the very end of the video "Christ I forgot to put the oil back in", and then said just kidding. I watched this hoping you would mention and show how to spin the primary chain to the tightest spot, which Harley says to do. I have my bike off the ground in 5th gear and found my answer here......got to take them plugs out to spin wheel and chain around in 5th...I should of known that jeeesus I haven't even been drinking today at all...lol....never work on your bike drunk....ask me how I know..Thanks for your information.

Not a bad idea to know the torque wrench is within spec. Know how they work and don't be cheap. Stripping an engine case thread would be a major pita over a decent torque wrench that will last a lifetime if properly cared for.

Not true on mine. This says up to a 2006. I have a 2006 Dyna and there is no plate in that location to remove🤷‍♂️. I need to add oil it sounds dry but I’m on rd and in a pinch and idk what to, other than remove the damn Derby cover🤦‍♂️. I love Harley but I’m bout done with them. Over heat in traffic, constant maintenance , etc etc. suck but I love them.

Sure you have heard this a thousand times, but being a retired master mechanic, it just bugs the living crap out of me to see KZfaqrs incorrectly using a torque wrench. It's ONE AND DONE, and I am referring to the "click" when reaching your desired torque. YOU ARE still moving the fastener when you repeat the motion for MORE CLICKS, just to be sure.

When do you look for Tight and Loose Spots??? WOW!! Some Chains can have 1/2 +++ Tight and Loose Spots. SORRY but this isnt Correct.
