I’ve followed you for years. I hope one day if you want to have children, you are able to. You are a wonderful person and your child would be lucky to have you as a parent.

Hi Lauren, so lovely to see you post again ❤ I have had MS since 2010 and now have 2 children. One born in 2021 by c-section and one born in 2023 by vaginal birth. During my first pregnancy I came off treatment and had a minor relapse at 20 weeks so went back on treatment until 34 weeks. With my most recent pregnancy I stayed on treatment throughout the pregnancy until 34 weeks and had no relapses. I have breastfed both babies and restarted treatment within a week of giving birth and haven’t had any relapses which I am so thankful for. My consultant and nurse was very clear that MS shouldn’t hold you back from having children, and that as someone living with MS I could still successfully have a family. The toddler phase is tough but I am lucky to have a super supportive husband who can take over childcare on the days I am struggling with fatigue/pain. I am also a school teacher, working with children from age 3-12. When I returned to work after pregnancy I reduced my hours from 5 days a week to 3 which has made a real positive difference in my work/life balance. Feel free to message me with any other questions. Wishing you all the best whatever route you decide to take.

Thanks for writing! I really appreciate your positive comment! You said exactly what I was thinking about the toddler phase. I'm not married yet, but my boyfriend and I are talking about marriage. I'm so happy to hear that you also work with children! My co-worker just had a baby and she also went from working 5 to 3 days a week. Thank you so much for offering to message you with questions! I may do that right now!

was thinking you'd been quiet for a while. Big things to think about @@LaurenParrott . I have a friend with MS who has had three children after diagnosis. She's on Lemtrada I recall but as you say, there is so much variation in each case of MS.

Hi Lauren, It is so nice to see you on here. I have had MS since 2004, at 32 years old. I had my first child at age 40 and the second at 41. My fear was that I thought I would be exhausted and too tired to be with them. It wasn't the case. I felt extremely good being pregnant. I did have a relapse after each one, but even with that, for me, it was the best decision I ever made. I am on Tysabri, and that really helps with my energy levels. There are little things I would try to do when they were toddlers, which was to play games that didn't require too much moving, like dressing me up, or making me into a mummy with toilet paper, coloring, etc. My husband did the 'running around' games. Everyone is different, but it's something that you will never know the answer to unless you do it. I would say, don't let fear be part of your decision making. Lastly, I don't have family near where I live, so I used babysitters for support if I needed a rest. if you have friends and family who can support, then that would be an extra blessing and reason to go for it! Good luck with your decision! Marlo X

Hey Marlo! It’s hard for me to express how grateful I am for your comment!! I just turned 40, and my boyfriend and I have talked about getting married and having children. It was so nice to hear you say that despite you having a relapse after each pregnancy, having children was the best decision you ever made! I really appreciate your advice about what you did when they were toddlers! That really helps!! I feel like what you said about how you will never know the answer unless you do it is absolutely true. I feel that way with lots of things while living with MS. I am very fortunate because I do have family around, however, everyone is busy with their own lives and I would never want to be a burden. So I’ve planned on having babysitters and outside help if needed. Thank you so much again for your incredibly helpful comment! I wish you the very best with everything!! XO

well, do I have a story on that subtitle? but the short version. when I got my diagnosis, that I had MS, my girlfriend was devastated, because, she wanted children and she throat that was not an option anymore or soon to be, so we agreed to start making one before it was too late. we now have a boy at the age of 9. but even though I was the one with MS I had to do a lot of the work, even waking up in the middle of the night to give the bottle to our son.. short story, she had a postpartum depression, and now all so have MS, what or the odds? my advice, be a team with your partner, and it will all be fine, no matter the storm :)
