Just did my plugs today 2009 CBR 600rr. You do not have to drain the fluid out of the radiator. Just unbolt it and push forward and bungee strap it. No need to disconnect the hoses. Getting the spark plugs from the top by removing the air box is more work for sure. Definitely, remove those two air hoses and the 10mm bracket bolt that secures it (it also holds the horn). Move it out of the way to the side as per the video (the ignition coil connectors will come with it too). Probably will have to disconnect the radiator fan connector too (for some reason the connector was a real balls ache). Owners manual says to replace plugs at 51000kms (32000miles). I was at 48,000kms and the old plugs gap were within spec. 0.031 to 0.035in (per manual). You don't have to gap the new plugs - they are pre gapped (and were in spec).

Just finished the plugs on my 2012 cbr600rr. The video was good it helped to see what I was getting into beforehand.the job itself was fairly simple and yes draining and lowering the radiator is necessary! Sure it's possible without but why not make it easy and do it right. Good video thanks!

Hi, with all the mod's you have made, like the headers, autotune, and all that stuff, does it run's much much better? does it worth it? I'm asking because I own a 2007 cbr 600rr, and I'm kind like to make some modifications like you made, greetings.

I bought my cbr from a modder, took me about 3 months to get it running right. exhaust leaks, stripped threads, weird noises, "custom" tuning (which was just him bashing numbers into power commander maps).

why do you need to drain the coolant?
@LordOfThunderUK
@LordOfThunderUK 6 жыл бұрын
I don't know but I guess it is because he had to move the radiator out of the way and to do that he needs to remove the water hose and that triggers the drainage. TBH, a really shitty design and very labour intesive.

I was looking all over for a video like this last week, couldn't find shit. Btw I didn't remove the radiator to do mine. I just unclipped the rail around the pair system and the wiring. I removed the radiator screws and loosened the hoses so it was pliable.
@HeroRR

That's precisely why I made this video. I wanted to help get some more information out there because I had a hard time finding any information also. Yeah there are a few ways to do it, I like the way I did it because I needed to flush and replace the coolant anyway (two birds) and removing the radiator did help film the area a "little" better.. lol

Your spark plugs should already be gapped to the correct gap when you buy them. Also, use a wire gauge if you need to set the gap.

What signs or symptoms alert you that you need to change your spark plugs?
@HeroRR
@HeroRR 7 жыл бұрын
It's maintenance, I forgot how often but I believe you're supposed to replace every 16,000 miles. Usually if the plugs are bad you'll get worse performance and fuel economy, amongst other things.
@WhiteBlaze5541
@WhiteBlaze5541 7 жыл бұрын
Brian Rice, my bike used to sputter or surge while I accelerate through out the rev range. For me it usually only happened at low speeds. If I gunned it I wouldn't have a problem or loss of power but that could be different for you. Honda does recommend you change them every 16,000 miles. I didn't do that. my problems started happening around 23,000.

This is from an NGK technician on gaping iridium plugs... "The coating is not the issue when checking the gap but rather the iridium being such a hard material it is brittle and snap off if gapped improperly. When gapping you do not want to apply any pressure or prying force to the fine wire center electrode or insulator or it can be broken and is not warranted. You want to adjust the plug only from the ground electrode. Sliding a tool across the iridium electrode will not damage it though as long as excess pressure is not applied. I am also including a photo of the proper way to gap the plugs. Thanks. Best regards, Brandon Peeler Technical Support Representative" Just gotta be careful using that round gaping tool as you can break the tip
