For a Memorabilia knife, it's actually a pretty decent survival knife, the problem with other people is they tend to use this knife more than its intended purpose, like chopping logs, it's not an Axe, so don't treat it like one.. and just because you can baton a few logs with this, doesn't mean you should..

Hibben has been making knives for along time.....Yeah it's only his design that United Cutlery is using....But if you use a knife for it's intended use....they will all last......you wanna baton!!! Use a axe....lol...You wanna cut something use a knife....

I have had no issues with my Hibben 3 I don’t know what people do to allegedly break them also what I have done to make mine even stronger I have filled my handle with JB Weld epoxy resin the resin has a strength of 4500 pounds . I have seen Slavic Telly do that to his knives that he custom builds and I thought it was a good thing to do. What I have done is probably overkill because I will never do stupid shit with my knife and push it to its breaking point cos at the end of the day it’s a knife not a axe or a machete

Agreed, my Hibben knives under normal use have done remarkably well. If it's of any help original Bowie knives had tangs that were thick then tapered to just a small thin piece of metal peened over at the pommel and they did just fine. Nothing is indestructible so yeah I'm with ya on that point, but unless as you said someone is swinging this thing at rocks or steel poles or some stupid shit like that these knives should hold up fine.

It does have thick Tang uptill screw tip but cares use what the knife was intended for..I have so called quality blades and I don't take them to cinder blocks are use them as axes I well use kukri that the only one I well do that with .In the end take care of you're blades and they well take care of you. This knife is for combat first and foremost, the fact that you can use it as a camp knife is an extra bonus. If you use the knife for what it's for and what it can do, you will never have a problem.

Ok so the rambo 3 knife was a hibben design the recent production run is made by master cutlery, don't use it for more than cutting or chopping, hibben himself is an excellent knife maker & obviously the real ones used in set would last super long

You have a good point if the weld is perfect and the rat tail bolt is high grade high strength steel. The main problem is if the weld has any kind of imperfection, a tiny void, a tiny gap, tiny crack, impurity included in the metal, anything wrong, it will create a stress concentration that can easily cause premature failure under loads many times lower than the expected load required to cause failure. Also, blades are subject to shock loading. These types of shocks can easily turn a tiny crack into a big one. Knives experience fatigue loading due to repeat cycles of applied force when you cut or chop. Bad welds are notorious for cracking under fatigue. It's kinda like buying a windshield for your car except the windshield has a tiny chip taken out of it. What's a tiny chip, no big deal right? Maybe it stays strong and everything is fine. As long as you drive your car like a normal person it should be fine. Why do people make such a big deal out of little tiny chips? But if that chip also includes a tiny crack, you might go over a few bumps and the crack grows. Then you hit a regular bump like any other and the entire windshield fails instantly. What kind of driver are you? Windshields don't fail due to normal bumps in the road. You must drive like a maniac, that's why your windshield failed. This is the type of argument you are making in the vid.

Like everyone says this isnt a full tang but if its used as intended it would be hard to break. I wouldnt bet my life on it as a survival knife but anything else is cool. Just my opinion.

Hibben knives are beautiful "display" knives. I would never use, or trust, them for real work. You have to research other knife makers for work knives.

hey matthew its not because you cut a 3" wooden branch one single time of your entire life in your backyard that this design entitle the "field" knife. just saying....

I found the 420J United Cutlery steel to be incredibly good on my R2 (Better than two original Liles, or most customs in the 1k-2k range!), and while I agree with your comment the handle would not break easily, it still is less than ideal construction, and could benefit fron G-Flex epoxying to secure even better... On my Rambo II I loved the blade but had to replace the entire tube handle with G-Flex epoxy and a high end old aluminium flaslight tube (Surefire 9p) as the original tube just lost its shape and clattered: Not a hardened tube but just a cast tube... The current Master Cutlery Rambos are better on that point, but the blade steel is not quite as good as United.
