Each power up coincides with a betrayal. Despite it being a charm effect he's had three best buds and Strahd was his enemy to begin with. Unless Xiros doesn't meet him again until he does Asmodeus' bidding I wonder how he'll get a power up after that.

@@oguzhanozgenc7843 to be honest i just go with the ideas my players give me. at this point the tiefling got some tasks he needs to do for the archdevil. which might end up not being able to save the town. the cleric reached 0 hp. and got an encounter with his deity. he is currently a warlock pact of the celestial, with some cleric abilities( homebrewing his class at this point). and they had 3 encounters with followers of tiamat as of now. and they all ended up with negotiations and are getting persuaded in helping in some way. but everytime they see something that resembles tiamat they fear that the BS persuasion has been seen through and that they are after them. also the party is trying to find ways to break the deal the tiefling made with levistus and this gives the party the feeling that they need to work together and gives great roleplay elements for them. but how i handled it was mainly listening to what informatian my players give me. and having a 1v1 session with that player to flesh out what he is trying to reach and weave that in to the story. there are already multiple times that i had to rewrite some parts of the module to make sure it fits with the characters decisions. and that it is in line with what had happend before.

It depends, the spell or effect states whether or not the target knows. Strahd's ability is called Charm and it is unique to him, and very powerful. As far as I can tell it does not say the target knows after it ends. They are just charmed and an ally for 24 hours, and if Strahd or his allies hurt them or do anything directly harmful to them they can repeat their saving throw.

Also petition to have Rhiannon play an indignant character at some point because I love it.

As far as I can tell it wasn't Mark's ruling but Kim telling him that it does although it clearly states that only the elemental damage is magical. I really like Kims RP but with this and the fact that she "misread" the bloodhunters minimal ability score requirement as wisdom and not intelligence seems really sketchy to me. In general the wisdom skills are way more useful than intelligence. It can happen that you do mistakes but two mistakes as mayor as this looks like she tries to pull a fast one on mark, especially since she played a bloodhunter before

@@roonaldo86 Well to be fair what she said and how she allocated stats is actually how Bloodhunters used to work. Matt has done several updates and balancing tweaks. So it sounds like she probably knew the class reasonably well, but didn't notice the tweaks done to it's balancing more recently.

@@roonaldo86 these folks are not optimizers or power gamers, if they were trying to pull a fast one there's about 12 things wrong with every character/action they take in combat. I dont say this to he a dick, just to point out that optimization is so far from the point to them and It should be quite obvious.

I don't think he meant it as "You now have to be a paladin" knowing mark he just meant it as a flavor text thing. Like you can be a performer, have an instrument, and sing; aka everything a bard does, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to be a bard class. Whether Tom chooses to start leveling in paladin or stay as warrior is totally up to him. EDIT: Even then, if he starts leveling in paladin he won't necessarily get rid of his warrior levels.

@@spectra20000 Well actually I would not be surprised if Mark lets him just swap out Fighter for Paladin. But like you said Mark is not forcing it on Tom in any way. They are definitely going to talk about it and make sure he is happy with the changes. Personally I would be really excited, as problematic as it is there are some really cool and interesting things happening with Xiiros.

Its modded because trott has run it for Mark before. Whilst i do pity the rest not experiencing the module raw, it's not like he just changed it for no reason.

It's also different because before Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft it was, and can still be treated as, just Barovia much like the original Castle Ravenloft mod. Which would be like the other Dark Domains don't exist. Regardless the whole story seems to hinge on Strahd making a deal with Asmodeus to escape his prison. Maybe Strahd found a way to let him in. If it's not your cup of tea just remember it's Mark's homebrew and canon hasn't actually changed.

I believe she IS coming back but as a servant of Strahd without free will. Though it is somewhat questionable as to whether Xiros has free will himself.

Which one? Strahd is very well known in Barovia and just like in real life people probably hear all kinds of stories about devils like Asmodeus making deals. Maybe that kind of thing would be even more common since there's plenty of evidence in their world that those kind of supernatural creatures are real.

@@toshomni9478 I think I was talking about the player characters ( only one is from berovia ). For example a commoner in the forgotten realms setting wouldn’t even know the name asmodeous or even basic magic to give you reference of scale. It seemed like meta game knowledge being played on subconsciously

@@DextrorseTANK I'm a peasant by some measure and I've heard of him. Not to mention that adventures are hardly ordinary citizens given all the magic and whatnot they can do.

@@toshomni9478 adventurers are always a case by case basis but commoners in forgotten realms usually don’t have access to this information and if any know any magic it is like one cantrip. You have to think about where the player character is from. If anyone knew anything about asmodeous other than he is the devil, the hells should be incorporated into their backstory or they belong to an order like the hell riders. These characters have generic backstories, so I don’t see how they would have expert knowledge about the devil. This is just me knitpicking when it comes to players having extensive knowledge about other realms from their own. I see this happen with players that give themselves a vague backstory like I’m a monster hunter and then they assume they know everything about every monster they come across.

@@DextrorseTANK Dogsbody is a Aasimar who knows the Infernal language. That doesn't sound ordinary to me and the rest of them just seem to think that devils are bad news which any superstitious serf could probably tell you.

That didn’t happen for Shadow. Xiros had a deal (and such deals with revivals are common in Strahd).

Shadow said it herself that she respects the balance of life and death so even if she was offered one I think she won't take any deals for a revival.

I have to be honest I wished Xiros died, because it would have been sooo ironic.( but also really sad for Xiiki)

At this point i would go back to the domains of Dread sorcebook For sent 2nd edition ANd look at powers checks. There should be minor changes in xeroses appearence making him look more like an abishai (to stay on the dragonborn theme) There are several ranks of corruption in barovia related to powers checks if i were to Guess he failed one by making a deal with asmodeus, another one by marking tatiana ANd a third one for coming back? ( I do not know WHOs alignment shifted?) An alignmen shift is to premature he needs to fail another to shift. now utimatley pcs going down this road eventually become NPCs with a cumulative chance each level of corruption. Untill they become a monster or a domain Lord in their own right working AS an npc for sthrad or asmodeus like what happened to shadow but more volentary. But a dm can determine that the player stats in controll for now. Xeros should be irredemable by now, but Also HIS goals still align with the party (at least partially.) so AS long AS this acursed being still has use for the party i see no need to remove him from toms controll i trust him to do this right. He can stay under tom controll until he becomes A complete monster. If you dont like IT though tid is what IT is like in the domains of dread not all heroes stay in the light. ANd not all players whant to give up the character that easely i am sure he will leave the party soon but untill then he is still a PC. I hope xiki can still be redeemed. She is not clean eighter.

If Tom doesn't want to be LE (though again he's not LE technically as they're not using alignments) or controlled, he can speak to Mark about it. I assume since he first made the deal with Asmodeus that both him and Mark discussed the possibility of him becoming controlled or becoming a more evil person. It's extremely unlikely that Mark is forcing any of this on Tom, or any of the PCs. If Mark didn't give the group consequences for literal deals with devils, there would be no danger in taking them. He needs to give the group consequences so they stop and think about what they're doing.

Firstly alignments don't actually matter in 5th ed; second Tom was the one to asked if he being controlled; thirdly it doesn't bother the player, the group, or the DM so your opinion on the matter doesn't matter.

Curse of Strahd is not the module for you if you don't want changes in alignement. Asmodeus or not, seeing a character change this way is not unusual.
