This is quite a fantastic bike. Easy going, calm and collected at low revs, but pretty crazy at higher revs. Easy to ride, very stable to corner. I felt like I could knee drag right off the bat!

I have followed your enjoyable and honest reviews for a while.. Today I put the deposit down on a cb650f black and red and now 5 hours later I see your review and it's 100% accurate. After falling out of love with motorcycles I wanted something to make me smile again. I can't afford a Street triple but the Honda today put some fun back I to bikes for me.

Hi Cager. Having returned to biking after a 15 year absence I test rode most of the 600 - 750cc models around at the moment. On the back of your review I went back to the CB650F for a second test-ride and ended up buying one. Having owned it for two months now and using daily for work (as well as Sunday fun rides) I have to say your review was spot on. This is a wonderful bike, and for all round use I couldn't find better. The build quality is brilliant and the handling just leaves a grin on my face every day. Thanks for a fantastic review - the CB650F is an awesome bike - and I now subscribe to your channel just to check out everything else you ride! Thanks from the UK!!!

Hey Daniel, thanks for the info I'm your height and 30 inseam also. I'm planning to get the 2018 cb650f but a bit worried about its height being at 31.9 is it too high? Is it comfortable at stops? You said the 2018 has a better riding position and less leaning forward, I hope you're right because I hate leaning forward as it hurts my back. Thanks again!

I recently bought one. Only 1200 miles on in so far but i have an idea of it. It's pretty dead under 4000rpm but from 4000 onwards the linear power gets get stronger and stronger. Above 7000 rpm it's instant throttle response and i find the bike very very fun, a proper naked race bike. The bike does lean me forward so with my short arms I will add risers for comfort. The comfy seat is low which I like with my short legs. Going back to the 1500-4000 rev range, the lack of power makes it ideal for the city. I get 53mpg UK average. Corners well, suspension is very good for me.The abs is good and it seems the tyres don't grip well in the wet under heavy breaking. The lack of the gear indicator doesn't bother me, I just put the revs where I want them (either for fun or fuel). I took the tracer out for two test rides. MT07 has a lot more power low and mid range a lot more! The mt gear box was horrible the clunky and the reach on the faired tracer version too long and sporty. I think it would be a more fun than the cb650f but harder to live with on a daily basis, it feels like a snarling beast, but one that could bite. The cb650f is refined and smooth and easy to ride, plus when you get the revs high it's a beast. One weird thing I never had on a bike before is the webbing near my thumb hurts when I ride, I think from forward lean into bars. Hopefully the risers sort this out

aviduke Hi mate I'm very interested in this bike and I'm just worried about mpg, is 53mpg you're getting is it with frugal riding or bit of both? I'm no speed freak in anyway but loves the thrill of the road is clear lol. What's the best mpg can you really get from this beast? Thanks

I would just like to say that the CB650 is *not dead* under 4000 rpm, it is just not twitchy when compared to the mt07. I would also hesitate to say that it doesn't have power down low, because that is not the truth. The truth is, that if you give it throttle to 4000 rpm, it will take you a considerable distance already. Take note I used the word *DISTANCE* because doing the same thing with the mt, it will rather take your bike *UP* --- meaning pop a wheelie. With that, I never had a problem myself in overtaking / needing for more power when I'm driving around sub 4k rpm. I think the argument that "The mt07 would be better at overtaking traffic" is stated by people who has limited motorcycle experience. Simply because either they are relying solely on the graphs, and they don't know what those graphs mean, or that they haven't ridden either bike. Weaving through traffic is not a difficulty I can assure you with the cb650. Coming from a 125cc bike, it can do that shit effortlessly, provided however we are cruising at sub- 70kmph. More than that, and the 125cc will have a problem. More than that, the honda can handle for sure because (1) you're not going to overtake at low rpm (2) you are already at speed to use the high powerband of the bike. With a lot of the reviews in youtube, I find one thing very peculiar. The ones that advocate that the MT is better, are the ones who mainly drive off road, and enjoy popping wheelies. While the CB advocates are those who are relaxed and just drive around casually. And that would be my conclusion. If you want a "fun" bike, with fun meaning popping wheelies and want to enjoy a faster 0-20 mph start, then go for an mt07. Which I would call a glorified dual sport bike. But if you want a more serious, long term bike, then go for a CB650f.

Hi Cager, thanks for the great video. I am looking for a mid range bike after many years of not riding. I would use mostly on back roads in Spain, and in city. Hope not to have to upgrade bikes after two years. Would you recommend the CB500F or CB650F? Also which is better for city, MT07 or CB650F? Would you go for Suzuki 650SV over these? 6:35 - Most 4 cylinder bikes will gladly sit at almost idle in 6th gear and be smooth. Even my FZ6 which has a lot less torque then most (and the 650 you're riding now) is happy at 60km/h even with a +1 front sprocket making the gearing taller. You should try that on a Bandit 1250 or a GSX1400 if you can find one, then open up the throttle, now that's some amazing torque.

No doubt the stability comes from the rather long wheelbase of 57". Probably 2 to 2.5 inches longer than the typical 600cc machine, It's a great compromise for the real world. Great and very amusing reviews, I live in California...known for it's great roads...but you may have us beat. Also, there are few places where the traffic is as heavy as I see in your videos, where you could ever get away with driving as fast as you do. You would end up in jail and probably on some terrorist no fly list. keep up the great work. Very informative and fun !!

hey cager, I just went to honda to get an offer for the CB650F, they told me why it develops less power than the Hornet, its basically to fit the new A2 licenses, what the guy said is that since the A2 license requires 48HP the original power of the engine cannot be more than double that, so if they kept the 100 HP from the hornet this bike would not be able to fit the new license. hope this helped :) Ride Safe!!

Thank you very much Cager, awesome bike and awesome test-ride! Actually I think this bike (87hp) shouldn't be compared to the Hornet (102hp), as it rather comes in remplacement of the CBF 600 (78hp). Thinking in that way, the CB 650 F is a real improvement. I am myself the happy owner of a CBF 600 NA, and I am sure I would also enjoy riding a CB 650 F very much. These bikes are wisely made for a daily use : they are both reliable, easy to handle and fun to ride... Pure Honda spirit.

This bike is a direct replacement for the Hornet. As is the CBR650F a direct replacement for the outgoing CBR600F. The clue is in the name. 😁
@MrKiddoMoto
@MrKiddoMoto 10 жыл бұрын
rockafella1690 There is actually a clue in the name, but maybe not the one you think :) ... The CBF 500 has been replaced by the CB 500 F, the CBF 600 has been replaced by the CB 650 F. That's why Honda don't call it "Hornet" (which is a successful label, so why stopping it?). According to the French motorbike press, there will also be a new Hornet in the coming years with a 800cc engine, as its main competitors (Yam MT09 & FZ8, Kawa Z800, Suz GSR). I hope they are right because the CB 650 F is a good replacement for the CBF, but a disappointing one for the Hornet.

@dbauernf
@dbauernf 10 жыл бұрын
1:50 - There's no "previous" engine here, they're both still in production, there's still the Hornet 600 and the CBR600F available (like the faired version of the one you're riding here), they're higher end bikes with better suspension, brakes and more power, but it's a lot more rev-happy and has lower torque obviously. The same happened in Yamaha's range when they went from the FZ6 to the XJ6 (naked) and the FZ6R (called different in different markets). They went from 98 to 78hp, but more torque down low. However the frame went from aluminium to steel, brakes are worse, it's heavier etc. The only difference is, Yamaha dropped the FZ6 from it's line-up at that time (they had the FZ8 out already). This Honda 650 is aimed at the less sporty rider and that engine makes more sense for everyday riding then the 600.

Just road tested one of these yesterday. I felt too many vibrations and simply not enough low end torque. Having to keep a motorcycle in the higher rpm range in order to feel a nice pull when needed, is just not practical to me, at least in city riding. For a bike that, here in Canada after taxes and fees you’re looking at about $11000, you would expect a bit more. Great video though!

Hey Cager, what would you recommend as a 2nd hand bike after first passing my test. I'm looking at a cb600 Hornet. What do you or any of your viewers think? Great videos btw. Regards from England.

I bought a 2008 Hornet as an "almost" first bike, and all I can say is that it's great. Almost everything Cager says about this CB50F applies to the Hornet: easy throttle up to 7000rpm (after that it gets wild), light, low seat, nimble easy steering, stable at cornering, and... when you feel confident to rev it high, the engine really shows the 106hp "R" origin, screaming it's way in a never-ending acceleration. Just love it :)

Zooumberg A Yamaha FZS600 Fazer. It's my first bike, a 2000 model. Not too powerful, exciting enough to keep you going for a few years and forgiving enough to not kill you immediately. They're widely available, so affordable second hand, and reliable like any Yamaha. You should probably get the 2002 model, with the more modern headlights.

Daniel Ferreira I am on the same position.... coming from a scooter for a "real" bike, have been looking for late hornets, but I am now considering this new 650f... though I am a bit disapointed by the fact that it doesn't have as the hornet did, aluminum chassis and inverted front forks. Probably it won't make any difference, but it is going back on tech... I am not decided yet.

Yamaha MT-07 would be a better second bike, if you're coming from a 125

I just checked local prices and the CB650F and the CB600F (Hornet 600) cost exactly the same. That's very interesting. There's 80 euros difference actually. I expected the 650 to cost at least 500 euros less. That's a lot more money then the MT07 sadly so even if it's the best bike in it's category, I think it's still overpriced.
