An easy way to find ratio is to put the valve stem at the top and mark the clotch drum with tape.Then turn drum and count how many turns it takes to bring the valve stem back to the top. THIS IS A REAL-WORLD WAY TO CORRECT FOR THE FACT THAT THE TIRE HAS A MUCH 'LENGTHIER'CIRCUMFRENCE THAN THE CIRC.OF THEREAR SPROCKET. 10 to 1 is Ideal.

Nice build...higher primary ratio will get the engine into its power range sooner. you'll lose speed but more drivable...you have some good ideas. I think I'll use a few on my next build.

awesome vid im planning on making a chain bike but with a sprocket on the left side of the rim and attatch it like the happy time (rubber or something) so this video with help me out alot :D gwd luck building the chopper, look foward to seeing it.

Very well documented and the project shows ingenuity! Much better setup than the old "drive shaft rubbing on wheel" drive systems. I notice you have other bike projects you have posted as well. As a small engine fan (my self included) I thought I'd share a really good resource with you and other viewers. tncscooters is the best com site I have ever found for parts. All $ are US$. Carbs $15, manual disk brakes $7, rotors $9, etc, etc. Carbs seem to B 1st thing that goes bad on small engines!

you could setup a multi sprocket system for shifting to get moving faster at slow speeds and shift up as you move along.

well done mate can't wait to see your chopper machine i have made a mini bike with a new chinese 16 hp motor on it 5 8 0 cc it does around 50 mph plus i have another one which is a v twin vanguard briggs and stratton 6 2 7 cc 22 hp but governed not sure what speed it does yet the motors on a hinge pivot which tightens a belt and away you go its only one gear .jacksharft system as you have.
@jordangreer894510 жыл бұрын
That's the point. We (I, anyway) don't do this because we have to, we do it because we want to. We like it. I'm not shooting you down on this, but I couldn't help it.
@fishnfreak1810 жыл бұрын
You should have used #25 chain on the First part of the jackshaft. You would have been able to put an even smaller sprocket on the motor therefore it could have revved out higher and given you more torque. I like your design though I think I might make one like this.
@DeanMk17 жыл бұрын
(11/30) x (11/72) = 17.85+ :1 If you know how tall the tire is, you can now figure out how fast you're going (in mph) for any given engine speed. So if your rear tire is, say, 3.25-16, you can calculate tire height (will need aspect ratio to do calculation, or just take a tape measure and measure it), then run the formula: engine speed (rpm) x tire height (inches) / 336 (constant) / overall gear ratio (in this case 17.85:1). The answer you get is in MPH. I ran it and just used 100% for the aspect ratio. I found at that engine speed it should be going a little over 22mph.Not bad!

Hey Mate, great vid. i'm working on something like this at the moment. , quick question: can i have the gear on the engine larger than the gear on the back wheel and it work? i'm using a 50cc Steele chainsaw eingine. Tah
@brendonv10114 жыл бұрын
For the gear ratio you find out the gear ratio for each part and then ADD them together not multiply. Just thought i would clear that up. Also yes if u go to my channel and type "how to mount a sprocket" or along those lines you will find a video on how to mount one.

There is a third way for the final drive, a belt drive. i did it without a clutch first with a underpowerd suffolk lawnmower engine. Later on i used the engine of my old pocketbike that one had a clutch but i still used the belt drive cause it was on There anyway so why not. Now im going back to the old way without clutch. But a belt drive is easy to take off, easy for riding without the engine or if the Police shows up :)

What went wrong with the bike? There's a very good video from davidsfarm with a similar setup. So with the slippy clutch isn't it better to scoot it up to 20kph with your feet if possible then use the engine?
