I started increasing my distance runs by doing slow long runs. I’m able to hit 4-6 miles at a moderate pace of 8-9:30 per mile. I have a boxer/rugby player build and running is something I LOVE. Especially me going into the military VERY soon, I am bumping up my sprints and runs, with the goal to hit a sub 14 2 mile by then of training, a sub 40 5 mile by next year, 10 miles at a sub 10 min per mile pace in a year or 2, and then finally, by God’s grace, do a 20-30 mile marathon WHILE maintaining a muscular build like you man!

Nice, keep going man. I've also been doing a lot of runs plus lifting before I do my runs. The incredible feeling you get during and after the runs is amazing and you feel so much more accomplished than just sitting on the coach all day. I'm not planning to go to the miltary anytime soon, but I do want to keep building up my fitness all around as well as getting my 2 mile time to sub 10 minutes (I'm at 12:08), my mile time to sub 4 (5:26) and my 5k down to sub 16 (19:21) later on in the future. You can get there man, just keep going and you'll get that sub 14 soon enough. Godspeed!

Yea but there is no world in which running has any positive effects on gaining muscle, it’s actually the exact opposite. That’s not to say running/cardio isn’t good for you of course.

Me and my son are starting with a mile /1600 metres And want to slowly drop the distance down to 100metres sprints while at the same time increasing our intensity What’s the best way to do that ? I just thought amongst distance at slower speed works be a good place to start to get used to running and not get injured We did try sprinting straight away previously but I think one time I hurt my hip flexor or something . It feels like like we need a little bit of conditioning over 3 -6 months to get ready for more intense sprints We are both tall and heavy too, over 6 feet and 240-260 pounds . I’m 44, son is 16 We want to run 2 to 3 times a week. We also loft weights 2 to 3 times a week

I know mitochondrial density seems like a big word, but you don’t generate ATP fast enough during 10 rep sets for that to matter. The reason running builds that is because it is important for endurance and slow oxidative muscle. This is illogical and just click bait by big words

It's because the average person has virtually ZERO understanding of even basic science. They don't even understand even the rudimentary basics of cell function or even basic science principles. I have several family members who speak on medical and science topics as if they know what they're talking about. But they don't. They don't even realize how idiotic they sound. They don't even know what they don't know. It's hilarioius.

nothing beats running son. it's the most primordial form of movement of the human species and one that distinctly separates us from rest of the Great Ape family. you gotta get in touch with those ancestors in you. we are built for running. learn the technique and you won't have joint issues (unless you're constantly doing long distances)

@@Richard-lm9ro you’re the one who asks why Mr Olympias don’t run, but they do. Nobody’s saying to become a marathon runner to build muscle. But you obviously can go for a run or a jog and keep your muscle and also benefit from it for both muscle and endurance purposes
