I just started using the tubes of silicon grease being careful that the connections are under the eves and not in direct rain. so far so good. Some systems are 8 years old so its best for me because its quick and lasts a long time

I was debating whether to install the RJ45 connectors on to the ends of my cables before my cameras arrived in the post? Now I know....... DON'T!!!!! Cheers mate!

Some cameras are now including couplers where the cables can be terminated. They RJ45 connector fits though the coupler and the rubber seal is larger. Better save then sorry and not terminate the cables yet.

Anybody knows what you need to buy if you lose the silicone cover for the power? What would its size be? 2 out of 4 of my CCTV no longer has that cover because it was bought second hand

Power can be supplied to the camera by the ethernet cable alone as long as it is it plugged into a “Power Over Ethernet” (POE) port on a router or switch. Devices with POE ports (usually a limited number of the total available) are pricier than those without and can be a lot noisier if they have fans.

At 1:50, I thought the white grommet goes with the recessed side out so the fingers can compress when you tighten the outer nut. You show it the opposite way.

What I don’t get though is this is great for outdoors but what do you then do with the other part of the tail the 12v D.C. socket you don’t use as I’m using poe

@@HomeTechDIY I think this is what most users are confused about. I knew I'd have to redo the terminators on my cabling but no one wanted to tell me what to do with that DC connector. Were back to junction boxes (for my install, bullet cams.. plus that connector is too big to fish through the attic in my home. Wish manufacturers would tell you this instead of making a $. Good quality though cant complain there.

What should i do with the 12v power outlet? Do i have to cover that too, or do i let it dangling around in the rain?

I should be ok, but I like to wrap a little electrical tape on it to seal it off.

I actually may have goofed up my installation. I put the O-ring on the other side. I'd probably try to correct my mistake and try to transfer it.

what if the cable you are using is much larger than the hole in the rubber grommet? anywhere to buy different inner diameters?

I have the same issue with some outdoor cables; they are too thick for the rubber grommet. I'm considering some neoprene stripping and wrapping mine in a few layers so it has a nice fit in the cover. amzn.to/2QiAsi9

What do you do with the 12 v plug and if yours is a poe setup what poe hub are you using. I am confused as poe hubs have 48V and the camera seems to have a 12V power input
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 9 жыл бұрын
domenico fusco I leave the plug open if it's in a dry area. If there is a risk of moisture, I seal it with some electrical tape. I'm not sure how to answer your question on the voltage. Here is the switch I use, if it helps: www.amazon.ca/BV-Tech-100Mbps-Network-Ethernet/dp/B005GAAUMW

newfiebort Thank you. I will get the hub as this will solve my problem. What I didn't understand is why they have a 12 volt plug when POE uses 48V. It probably doesn't matter if it works with that hub.

@rbrown2925

Yes and no. It isn’t required for weatherproofing (unless your house is -really- damp!) but with my Hikvision cameras, the RJ45 connectors didn’t snap lock into the Hikvision sockets. The threaded cap was required to ensure the connectors didn’t slip out in case someone pulled even lightly on the cables. I’ve never had any problem with the dozens of connectors I’ve put on cables before and it was the same problem with both my DS2CD2122FWD-IS cameras so I assume it’s a Hikvision “feature,” not me screwing up.

How do I remove the connector
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 5 жыл бұрын
To remove it completely you will need to cut off the RJ45 jack. Some weather seals allow the jack to slide out, but not this one.
@heimizhou450
@heimizhou450 3 жыл бұрын
but how to disconnect or remove the seal?
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Pretty much the same process but in reverse, except for when it comes time to remove the grommet from over the RJ45 connection. You might need something thin to side in there to push the RJ45 connection tab inwards to allow the grommet to slip over. The end cap can only be removed by cutting off the RJ45 piece.

Yea...Now where do I leave this massive plug? It doesn't fit in the base. They want me to drill a big hole for the plug when a UTP-cable sized hole should do it.....? Some people have brick walls you know....
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the plug is massive. You will either need to drill an equally massive hole in the brick or use a junction box to hide that thing. amzn.to/2trlH1p
