I had a few questions about the Stainless Steel revolver cleaning video. Mainly about whether you could use a lead remover cloth on a Blued or Nickeled Gun. You really shouldn't so I made a second video showing you how I clean my blued guns. I didn't have much in the way of dirty guns on hand so I made the video by cleaning my .357 Magnum Ruger New Model Blackhawk. It sees quite a number of the same 170 grn keith SWC 357Mag and 105 grn lee SWC .38SPL loads ad my GP100. It's also a convertible so I can shoot a few rounds of 9mm FMJ to blow the lead out of the rifling if I want to save time scrubbing. I actually have a matched pair of these for trying out CAS if I ever get the free time.
You will need some basic kit
Cleaning rod
Bore Brushes
Jag
Patches
Solvent (I like Hoppes 9)
Gun oil (I used rem oil, but please see the link below for more info)
In the interest of time I skipped using a bore snake and didn't demonstrate how I use foaming bore cleaner. I covered both of those in my Stainless cleaning video at the below link.
• How to clean your stai...
I mentioned a gun oil test in the video here is a link to the test

Long but well worth the read.

I use a tornado brush inside the cylinder to remove the ring. It builds up quickly when using the 38 special ctg in my .357 revolver. As for the powder burn rings I use balistol and a toothbrush.

Never, ever stop a wire brush without pushing it all away the way through a barrel or the chambers of a cylinder. That wire won't damage the gun but it folds the bristles of the brush back against itself completely wrecking the brush.

I agree with gunBlue the S&W Armorer. Only 1 drop of mineral oil on extractor rod and the cylinder pin. Oil is not your friend...

Stop contaminating your bore cleaner, did the same when I was a kid, but learned that dipping the brushes in the bottle destroys the fluid.

I only have a smallish amount in that bottle. I just use it to prevent drips. I buy the Giant bottle off of amazon and use it to refill

Good vid... use very little oil.. 1 drop on the extractor rod and on the cylinder rod. GunBlue490, a retired police officer and trained armorer and military sniper.

Cleaning the ejector rod and lightly oiling the base pin and center hole, ( lightly ) matters alot. Question, how often and how do you clean up the ejector spring? I know that disassembly is the long answer but other than an air compressor and just rubbing a lightly oiled rag back and forth I d as much as I do and it's still pretty dirty in there...I dunno. Any Thoughts?

go to the auto parts store and get a can of Gunk Carburetor and Choke spray cleaner for $3. Not brake cleaner!!! FAST cleaning puts Hoppes to shame. you can clean a gun in 5 minutes and much cleaner than hoppes with an hour of scrubbing. Then wipe/lubricate it with your favorite oil. Blue or stainless no problem.

I just discovered this tutorial. I stumbled upon using carburetor cleaner as a neat trick for cleaning guns just last month. I thought I'd try it to clean my lead and lube gunked up reloading dies. It did such a good job on them that I experimented with it on my Uberti SAA .45 Colt revolver. When I finished, it looked like it had never been shot. Shined a bore light down the barrel, and it reflected like a crystal wine glass. Good stuff that works fast and cleans thoroughly.

I don't like to polish out burn rings, because they will always come back. Continuous polishing will widen the cylinder gap which is not good. Instead, I just gently wipe the powder residue off of the cylinder and let it go!

@jim8684 😂😂 that is 100% BS! Nothing he did is going to remove ANY Steel Didn't even remove the bluing? Whoever taught you that crap is an idiot. So you have burn and lead build up on your revolvers? That is crazy man, clean your guns and stop worrying, bronze brushes do NOT remove Steel.

newbie question: are the nylon scrubbing pads for doing dishes any good for cleaning the gun with?
@GunAndShotTV
@GunAndShotTV 7 жыл бұрын
I would stay away. The ones that are soft enough not to damage the gun are going to leave shit all over the gun. The harsher ones like Scotchbrite pads that are made for scraping crud off pans will take off bluing and will make shiny stainless matte colored. Also since most gun products are made to work with cotton patches and brass brushes you might end up with the chemicals melting the pad depending on what it's made of.

I seen a video a while back. Guy said you can use Mother's Chrome Polish to polish a stainless steel gun. And it will make it shine like no other gun. Do you anything about this method of cleaning a gun? Thanks for sharing your video. Great video thumbs up. I always enjoy your videos.

I just made a video about cleaning a stainless gun as well. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLiWlbiBmNyboqs.html You can use Flitz, Mothers or whatever you want so long as it's for polishing stainless on the label. But using a lead cloth like I show in the video will get fouling and lightly polish. Big issue is if you use something too aggressive and end up making a matte finish too shiny in one spot an either have to polish the whole thing or bead blast it back to matte.
