Hi, please keep doing what your doing. I looked all over for a simple and clear guide for this very purpose, and most info I did find was outdated and not working. I found your video by chance. Your video is simple, clear, and concise. I've managed to convert my videos with ease thanks to your help. Thank you.

They've made the process so much easier now according to other YouYuber videos. You simply import your file, load the PSP preset, and start encode. 3 steps. That's it. Takes 2 minutes.

Actually, if you do it correctly, you can set resolution to 720x480 or 720x576. I was using settings for an old version of Handbrake and didn't have time to do extensive testing to figure it out for the newest versions of Handrake. Thanks, bud!
@16bitvirtual4 жыл бұрын
The only reference to that claim is that some UMD video is at 720x480 (maybe 480i video might work?). Even so the PSP's native video resolution is 480x272 so it'll have to down scale the video anyways. The only benefit is if you are playing back on a TV.

Thank you :) Edit: Hey I was wondering- do you happen to know why videos formatted this way end up far larger than the source video? For example I have an MP4 that was about 150mb give or take and in a larger resolution-- but after formatting it to fit PSP it turned out to be 850mb. That's like 4 times the size yet the video is scaled down and such. Just curious- I want to get a better size in the end so I can pack more of them on. Like a season's worth for instance- but on a guess formatting this way would leave me with over 20gb of video files over-all If you see this I'd appreciate some insights, I can't seem to find much online about this. ✌

File size is determined by the "Quality" setting in Video. I'm typically going from a high bitrate video so 22 is a no noticeable quality difference for me. But you can lower the quality by increasing the compression. The Larger the quality number the lower the file size and video quality. You can also manually set it, but I'd suggest you read up on it from the handbrake site for best settings. Another thing it could be is audio quality, try dropping that too as that can contribute to a large file size at lower resolutions.

people say you can use 320 kpbs aac and 1500 kbps for h264 but I can't get it to work with the latest Handbrake. Can you guys help me out? I want to make high quality encodes from my blu ray discs.
@16bitvirtual3 жыл бұрын
1) Check the spread sheet in the description, that goes over all the settings which I found to work on the PSP 2) You aren't going to get the "High Quality" videos on a PSP. Max video resolution is 480x272. 3) Get a vita if you want quality & gaming. Max audio bit rate might be 256 kpbs (around that), but the video can go up to 1080p, even though it'll be down sampled to 960x544

Does NOT work at all. I've tried to use the preset that you have set up, and PSP says that the video can not be played.

I know it's an issue. Though it's sadly not an issue I can fix the edit (though I do try), as I am peeking the mic during recording sessions. Trying to find ways to prevent that from happening.

Not every video works. and have tried several PSP Converters. l used atube catcher and Wondershare Uni Converter and now Handbrake. l have converted like 50 videos and out of those 50 only 19 of them work. l have tried a movie called Hotel Transylvania multiple times and iit keeps saying unsupported data after converting. as l said l ran them all through the converter and some work perfectly fine. where as other videos have converted to the exact same format and al the details and bitrates and everything is identical in the properties of the video. but they show up as unsupported data. So im not sure why some videos work where as other movies converted the exact same way say unsupported data for.

@@16bitvirtual Never mind. l have a 128GB memory chip and must have issues with movies. l also have some 32GB chips and re-encoded those same movies that show up as unsupported data again and put them on the 32GB chip and they work perfectly fine on there. so there must be some sort of issue with putting movies on a 128GB memory card and wont load certain movies. they work perfectly fine on the 32GB card.

720x480? Not from my testing. I've heard this before from other users asking about it and I think it worked with the UMD video, but I don't know how to encode it. With a MP4 h.264 encoding the PSPs native resolution is the max video settings from what I've seen. Plus you can't tell the difference due to the lower screen resolution

@@jeremiahb3421 How to change the thumbnail... no clue. How to make your own thumbnail... I can't believe I am saying this but it is possible. You need a 160x120 jpg of the thumbnail with the image you want. Rename to jpg to thm, and make sure it has the same file name as the video. i.e. Pokemon.mp4 & Pokemon.thm Keep the mp4 and thm together and you're all good.

1) I've gone through all the settings, please refer to the Google Sheets for more details: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Mo0hPNihPx_999SeEbIbTdUoxIpFmHLqdt_j0x4CVaY 2) What is the Video Width & Height? They need to be less than or equal to the PSP's native resolution of 480x272 3) What is your Encoder Profile set to? Set it to Baseline and 2.1 it's my goto. 4) Finally double check your Audio Bitrate, 64-256 and AAC audio encoding is required. Other than that, fiddle with the remainder of the settings in the Videos tab, that is where I found the most of the issues.

@@16bitvirtual When i convert the video using Wondershare Uniconvert, the quality is perfect. But with handbrake quality is much lower and im using ur settings from the video? What's the deal ?
@16bitvirtual4 жыл бұрын
The deal, is depending on your source video and how Handbrake down scales the video to the PSP. "The Quality is Perfect" is a subjective term which I cannot use to diagnose issues with your settings. Perfect Quality could mean anything from better video compression, to better audio compression, to a better success rate. So I am going to make some assumptions to give some basic understanding and help. Better Video Quality - This could mean many things, from starting out with good video from the start, i.e. converting a video ripped from a bluray vs one downloaded from a pirate site. You cannot add quality back into a video. Or this could mean the video looks pixelated. Which no duh, this is a portable with less video resolution than a standard definition TV at the time, it will look like a block of pixels at times. Or this could mean that the video looks more compressed, which could be from Handbrake, in which case play with the Quality Dial in the Videos tab, until you get one which works, and doesn't have issues. Better Audio Quality - This one is a doozy with similar pitfalls as the video quality. You can't add quality back into a bad video. But you are limited since the PSP's audio driver can only take in so many bits per second and I don't know what that is, so follow the spreadsheet for what I've tested and take it to the max. Better Reliability - Handbrake was never intended to export videos for the PSP, it is designed for everything else, which also means it can technically export for the PSP. I personally use it since as a software package it's safe and reliable, i.e. if the company was to ever fold, the project will still be online forever, and probably still supported by open source coders. But this does mean that it has some issues getting the videos to export just right. Is Handbrake perfect, no, and there might be better video compression software which handles exporting to the PSP. But the purpose of this video was to get PSP owners who want to use this obsolete system, with a poor resolution, from nearly 2 decades ago, to be able to use it to watch videos, quickly and safely.

Good chance it's the audio. Try disabling it to see if the video will play. If it does, then re-add it and lower the audio quality until it works. PSP video is weird in this regards.

@@16bitvirtual thanks for the response! I had read elsewhere too that some people ran into issues with audio, but even trying down to 64kbps as well as completely disabling, still could not get it to go. I did end up successful by using PSP Video 9 to convert instead. It's slower than Handbrake and no hardware acceleration, but at least the output videos are working! Despite using identical settings, at least from what I can tell, for some reason my PSP (1000 with 6.60 C3) just refuses to play the Handbrake encoded files. Oh well.
