In this tip I show you how to feel lag in your golf swing and increase your clubhead speed with this simple drill.
So many people are working on lag yet few every know what it even feels like. This drill will give you the actual feeling so you can start getting more lag in your golf swing.
Do this lag drill with a friend. As you do, try to remember the feeling. Once you repeat this lag drill a few times simply hit some drives and even some irons shots. If you video your golf swing as you hit these shots you will see an increase your lag angle and your clubhead speed.
This really is an amazing lag drill that will not only help you feel lag but it will increase your clubhead speed for longer drives and pure irons.

Another great tip Paul!! For anyone benefiting from Paul’s KZfaq tips - do yourself a favor and purchase the full Body Swing program. The full program gives SO MUCH MORE detail and information on every aspect of the golf game. And Paul has earned our membership with all the content he gives away for free! I am not affiliated with Paul and have not yet met or spoken with him, but his program has changed my golfing life!!

I like this video because it demonstrates that in the golf swing you are swinging a heavy weight around your body. Not sure how articulate a description that is but for me it's the feeling I get when doing my best swings.

Excellent instruction! The other thing that prevents amateurs from not feeling lag, is knowing exactly when to change direction for their swing. A lot of people see the swing as static positions, but getting them to rotate the hips while the back swing is still finishing is one of the big barriers. Nice video Paul!

Hey Paul changed my grip from all fingers to your suggested neutral in cross into the palm getting more consistency but my distance has reduced but definitely I am not using much hands as much.. I suppose need to more practice to get that distance!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Well, your other grip was probably strong so you were delofting your clubs getting a false read on your distances. Keep doing the new grip, loosen the wrists and turn faster. Legs and hips. I have lots of tips and drill now on them. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mM6litN1kpfMpps.html

Did you hear Fred Funk, at 64, made the cut on the regular tour in Bermuda. One of only 4 men to ever make a cut at 64 or older. Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, and Tom Watson were the others. Now that's being among GREATS!

Great to see. That's what happens when you are consistent. Hit every fairway and the game is easy.

Love your tips, Paul, and recommend you to everyone I talk to here (Queensland, Australia). One question I have (which I don’t think you have mentioned ever) is about taking off distance. If you have that 80-100 yard pitch and you need to take off yardage from your PW or SW. Do you recommend avoiding lag with those shots for better distance control. Personally I have gone back to stiffening the wrists with these shots (and firm my grip) as my results have been very inconsistent with loose wrists and I get better control of these particular shots with this method.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. For pitching you vary the rotational speed of your hips for more or less power. I set the backswing hinge at 3 backswing lengths and turn at 3 speeds covering 9 shots with one club. Give it a try.

When beginning to implement this, especially that feeling of closing or decreasing that left wrist angle on the beginning of the downswing, is there a possibility that there may be a tendency to push the ball to the right? I had a few really powerful, good trajectory pushes today. I've always been slightly "casty" but have somehow been able to overcome this over the years to be a single handicap player, though never the consistency that I'd like. But I think I may finally be on the right track with this.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you may hit pushes if you are trying to hold the angle too long or driving the lower way too hard. You need to watch this part 3 of 3: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9KaatiS1JaVe3k.html

Well Paul, I'll tell ya. I thought I had it all figured out (from your other 'release' vids) and my drives have improved for accuracy. So, after watching this one I went out in the yard and practiced more lag. I thought I would have less control but, hit a good drive every time about 10-15 yds farther. Now, it was hurting the wrists (arthritis) so, I tried a split grip (not apart but, right pinky just touching left index). It hurts less and I get a great snap always in control. Only thing is, I can't keep a straight lead arm until I get back parrallel to the ground. That's ok??

Well I don't feel either because I have done it for so long but someone working on it would probably feel both with the left more prominent.

Hi Paul been doing the swing for a few months now, and recently got SC300 launch monitor. Swing speed before was around 70mph (7i) its now around 70mph(7i) and 82mph (driver) you had a video showing a student increase swing speed. Doesn't appear to be working for me. I don't compress the ball either. Shorter swing and full swing get same results- distance swing speed. Any ideas?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
You need to fire your legs and hips way faster. I am assuming you think your wrists are loose. If not they need to be SUPER loose too. Hinge/rehinge ... coil/uncoil. Whenever I show people they have no idea how much legs I am using. Then they try it and they are just barely moving. You nee to put serious effort into using your body (legs and hips). Do this drill daily: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ort_f7CdxODRlZ8.html and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rMqSY5uAtpy6XaM.html hit your actual shots thinking of this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMqgm9eZqLedhoE.html

Paul, what causes my club to twist closed in my hand at impact? I'm a eighty but swing lefty so everything wants to go right. The only way I can go straight is by opening up the club face and moving my driver to the middle of my stance.😩
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
This is because you have your hands too far ahead at setup which gives you strong grip. Then your wrists are loosen enough to allow the club to release but this shuts the face. Need to move the clubshaft back so it is just slightly left of your belt buckle then put your hands on in a more neutral position.
