Instructions by Crandall Office Furniture on how to lubricate some creaky areas around a Steelcase Leap Chair.
Sometimes with use, the Leap chair can develop squeaks and creaks in high friction areas. Thankfully, this routine maintenance is quite easy to perform and can completely change the experience of using your chair. So, we put together a little guide to help you along the road to silent sitting.
Identifying the cause of the creak
1. There are a few suspect areas to be aware of while locating the cause of the noise. Most notably, the reclining tracks at the base of the seat frame and the rotating connective joint holding the back frame to the seat’s arms.
2. The inner frame spring can also generate some noise, although we’d recommend checking this last due to it being harder to access and the risk of over lubrication causing drips and leaks.
Treating the creaks
1. Before actually applying any lubrication, it’s incredibly important to make sure you are using a product that won’t create a mess. We recommend using either WD-40 Quick Dry Silicone spray or a petroleum-based lubricant like Vaseline. Avoid regular WD-40, as this has a high chance of leaking from the chair and causing stains.
2. Once you’ve got your lubricant, try applying some to the aforementioned problem zones. It’s important to note that less is more in this process. Too much lubricant can lead to drips and stains.
3. After applying just a little lubricant to the creaky parts of the chair, recline the chair a few times to spread the lubricant throughout the mechanisms.
4. If the noise persists, check the hardware on the chair, sometimes a loose screw can cause parts to shift causing noise. If all accessible hardware is secured, then re-apply a little lubricant to any remaining suspicious areas.
5. If the noise is persisting, the cause may need further diagnosis. Please send us a video of your chair and we’ll be sure to help you the best we can.

80% of the squeak is actually in the seat portion that he removes. Flip your seat cushion that he took off upside down 1:12. There's only one lever attached to the seat portion, press it up and down and look where the two materials slide, spray some oil on there. Then take off the plastic cover being held down by like 100 philips screws. Flip the seat onto it's side (with the lever facing you, don't put the lever part facing the ground) so you can see in between the metal cover and the seat, you should see a skinny piece of metal that you see rubbing on another piece of metal when you press up/down on that lever. THAT is what makes 90% of the squeak. Good luck, this video only solved maybe 10% of the squeak. 80% of the squeak is where I mentioned. Not sure where the other 10% squeak is but I'm too lazy to try and find it lol

Hi, I followed your How to Fix Your Squeaky Office Chair - Steelcase Leap Followed the instructions exactly. Lubed all the indicated spots, put seat back on…'leaning-back' squeaks gone, thanks. However, now when lean back, instead of smoothly leaning, it feels ‘notch-y’. Sticky. Like each 1/2 inch backward bumps against a notch or groove. Used to just recline smoothly, with no sticks or pauses. Please advise, thanks

Have you ever seen a leap that has a squeak that stops when the plastic part that the Lower Back Firmness knob is attached to is pushed closer to the inside of the chair ( when I use my hand to push it closer to the other plastic part that the back is mounted on)?
@CrandallOfficeFurniture
@CrandallOfficeFurniture Жыл бұрын
Haven't heard of that specific scenario but it sounds like the knob wasn't in fully maybe?
@Disastorm
@Disastorm Жыл бұрын
@@CrandallOfficeFurniture I did more testing with it, and its not the knob specifically but rather the piece of plastic the knob is connected to. When its pushed closer to the plastic that the back is connected to the squeaking stops. I guess to be clear I don't know if its pushing these 2 plastic pieces together thats solving it, or simply pushing the outer piece inward in general thats solving it, but likely pushing the outer piece inward would also result in those 2 pieces being closer together anyway. I'm going to try tightening the screw that attaches the outer plastic piece with the seat itself which would in theory push it inward more. So I just ordered a low profile T20 90 degree angle torx to try it out ( got 90 degree so i dont have to remove the entire arm to access the screw ).

I saw a complaint review on Amazon with a picture attached by a person who bought one of these chairs and wrote "and I had these extra two parts, and no idea what to do with them." They were the chair glides you reinstalled at the last moment here. I love when people don't read the directions or anything, and then blame the chair. Sometimes I read Amazon reviews just for the entertainment value of the stupidity.

Hi Brian I wanted to ask you how exactly you fixed the creak/ what spring? I followed the video precisely and it still creaks when I recline. Sounds like it comes from the middle back area of chair.

@@doughowe9746 I sprayed a ton of penetrating oil in there in between wiggling the chair back and forth for like an hour. It still sounded awful. But when I came back the next day, the oil had worked it's way into something / somewhere inside the mystery box, and the noise was much better. ... and even better yet the day after that.

Do you use silicon spray for all of your chairs? What about grease or WD40 spray grease? will it work even better then silicon spray? What parts shouldn't be covered in silicon or grease? lets say there is a seat depth adjustment and you grease it a lot, chances are high that it will move way to easy up and forth, even tho its quiet then. or if you put it in your gas lift, it will probably let you turn your chair way to easy then, which will feel weird. can you do this kind of videos with normal synchon mechanism chairs, so for people who don't have 1500 euro chairs? :D i get a lot of creaks and ping sounds like from springs, but even if i grease everything, it still happens. really don't know what to do, thank you.

Could you please make a *comprehensive* video like this one where you dismantle the seat of Gesture chair and then spray *all* the possible points that might cause it to squeak? I've watched your previous video about that model and the instructions given within it don't always work, because your man only addresses *one* potential problem area, whilst neglecting to address any of the others. I have a Gesture that is squeaking which I bought directly from Steelcase, and the source is from somewhere under the seat area, *not* the back part that controls the recliner mechanism. But I cannot find any video tutorials on how to fix this, because no one has made any, apparently. Can you guys please do that?
