How to know if your Webtoon is doing well: Are you getting new subs?

Sure you can look at our webtoon and see how subscriber count going up, but you have access to more information that could help you get more subscribers.
Learn how to access the data and how to use it. Also it will help mental health to record statistics and only access them monthly in a clear and logically way.

Love how you mentioned the possibility of the creator marketing to the wrong audience rather than automatically thinking that the comic is bad (in the subs per views part) I wonder if you have any tips to know if a comic idea is good/interesting enough before starting to publish?

Before publishing, you can get feedback from family/friends/forums. Ask for constructive criticism so you can fix any major issues. Then, you will likely be "good enough" to start sharing it more publicly.

Of all the videos you made, this one felt the most devoid of energy, enthusiasm and your own unique spark. I don't think you get as much out of these Webtoon vids as you're putting in them. I like it when you talk about art in general, and feel like you do to. 80% of this was just a spreadsheet and discussing strats to pull more eyes to Webtoons. It's marketing. We like you because of the art and technique put into it. Just saying you don't need to do stuff like this, we like what you like. My two cents, willing to support you with whatever.

Appreciate that, thank you. I do love stats though and I get a lot of enjoyment looking at and understanding numbers. I know not everyone is into numbers and they can feel dry, but I find them interesting :-)

Nah. It's the same old Walter "I'm-tired-but-I've-got-a-comic-to-finish" Ostlie. It's just that we are so used to seeing that extra spark in his eyes when he's talking about comics, that this feels odd.

I really love how detailed the tapas analytics are and hope webtoon moves to a system closer to that one. The webtoon stats are a little too open ended for me but I like the system you came up with.

I'll have to check out tapas analytics. I have a comic there, but I completed it years ago, so prolly nothing too useful, I guess I can upload one of my webtoon comics over there though...

This is a very important asset that you're providing, Walter. Us artists usually suck at marketing and analytics of our work. Or we sometimes don't even put an effort into it at all. This is a must have for a comic creator!

Thank you for this! I’ve been trying to figure out a way to manage/use my data so I can hopefully improve. One thing I really wish the data could tell us, when we go to check our own comic, to reply to comments, does that count towards the views? Idk just me wondering.

Yeah, there's a lot of features missing on the Spanish version, like coins and or the patreon feature. Hope they can add more stuff because it seems the community in that language is growing.

LOL! I’m leaving the corporate world to get away from Excel! JK This is great info. And can see the value in tracking. Do you think there is a way to figure out where reader’s are coming from? Those from Webtoons vs Instagram vs Twitter vs Facebook etc. It would be great to know where to focus. I find a lot of comics thru Instagram rather than surfing Webtoons. Thanks for the Google doc!

Unfortunately no, not with the current tools. Webtoon would have to allow you to add a google analytics id to your comic. The only thing you could do would be to focus on one platform for a month, record the views, then switch to another platform the next month, compare the views. It would be a very fuzzy truth though. You could try it day by day as well to attempt to make it less fuzzy.

Everyone first working with these excel-programs: Do some tutorials on them. These are standard tools of the trade. Not are they used in almost every office job, but they help incredibly with every complex task, where you have to organize yourself. In addition to financial or metric organization as mentioned by Walter, you can also make databases with adresses (mail and email) for automatic letters/emails and such. It's actually pretty easy but I want to encourage you to do an intensive step into the program (plenty of good tutorials on KZfaq). And with a good book, it should take you around a week to get a GOOD knowledge here. You will profit a lot in life from this.

I did some digging and found this note on an old notice from Webtoons (back when they partnered with Patreon!): "US monthly pageviews / update = Total number of pageviews of the whole series during a given month, divided by number of updates during the same given month" I hope that helps!

That's what I was thinking it was going to be, which is a weird metric that doesn't super helpful, but it's much easier than tracking views by episode, but a lot less helpful. Thanks for sharing that info!

As someone who loves stats, this was a very interesting video! I wish Webtoon allowed us to see how many pageviews we get from outside the US. I know only those count for their ad and revenue programs, but just out of curiosity I would like to see how many people read my comic in total, not just from one country. I also wish there was some place where creators could share their stats so everyone could check, I would love to know about the other series I read, see if mine are good enough or not compared to those, etc. (...Like I said, I love stats (XwX; )

No, not all originals were originally canvas. Some originals are canvas creators who created a new webtoon to be an original. Some originals are professionals comic people who've made other comics outside of webtoon.
