How to Open a Dell AC Laptop Adapter, for real

Warning, once this is opened it cannot be closed again except with glue. That is by design, blame Dell, don't blame me. This is the easy and quick way to open a Dell laptop adapter.

They don't want you to open it for liability reasons.

My Dell charger regardless of plug into the laptop or not, the green light comes on for about 5 seconds then slowly fads out. The power supply will not power the laptop. Are their any repair tips site for this power supply. Its a PA-10. Thanks

Have similar problem, some fiddling about with the cable going from the transformer to the laptop will usually get it back. I can hear a little beeping noise until the light comes back on. There must be a wire loose inside, I have thought bout opening it and repairing the connection but they don't seem easy to open up

You can't open dell powersuply but you can get inside once. it's best to use oscilatiog cutter for plastic seem and cut the top off. Rebuild faulty components and leave it accesible to be open later. 2 rubberbands are enough.

Stabbed myself last night with a knife ..but thanks to this video its opened and fixed..I should've just KZfaq this earlier.had to rewire plug for PC to the inside of adapter wires

There is no glue, it snaps together and isn't meant to come apart.

well it's more like "how to destroy" it actually ). I'm Looking now for a solvent, which can dissolve glue. Petrol for example.

It's not glued. Any solvent strong enough to open it will do even more damage. The case is designed to not open again for liability reasons, to prevent people from messing with it then suing Dell.

what a crap this AC adapter is. afraid screw driver can damage stuff inside while opening. in my case the rubber protecting the wires coming out simply broke and it now all depends on those 2 wires and thats why i wanted to open it.

+Kamil T. You should be fine. It actually took quite of bit of force to get inside the case. Start easy then tap the screwdriver progressively harder until the case pops.

+Rudy Roman In Rick's video it says it can blue glued back together after. It won't just snap in together as this is a sealed kind of AC adapter and probably not meant to be opened. Dell just wants you to buy a new one. My version slightly differs and components inside aren't protected by a metal piece, so half way in just gave up after seeing that I almost screwed it.

+Rudy Roman It will have to be glued. Opening the case breaks the tabs.
