Rendering in Premiere Pro can sometimes take ages, especially if you make a mistake and have to re-render all over again. But this method will decrease render time in premiere pro utilizing smart rendering methods.
I use this for client work where I may need to quickly make a change and then export faster. PLUS there is no sacrifice on quality either. It's simply a way to reduce render time in Premiere Pro.

Hey mate, great video! Have a question.. I have a few hours long video file (premiere pro), with hundreds of video and audio clips with basic colour adjustments and default transitions. I don't need to change or edit anything. Is there any way of permanent merging all clips into just one (audio and video) and will that speed up the rendering process? I know I can nest clips and then Render and Replace, but for some reason this option is greyed out for me. Thanks in advance.

The only thing I can think of is dropping the sequence into a new sequence, but the problem with this is that if 1 minor thing has to change like even 1 frame, the whole thing has to be re-rendered from scratch. That's why it's better to keep it chopped up so it can render out sections :)

Hi, Im trying to follow your instructions but not getting a quick render. I have masked 2 photos 5184x3456 and put a 4k back ground video together [yes I'm a novice]. I have made the changes you recommended using the Quicktime and apple pro res 422 proxy. Still getting a very long render time. Any ideas? are my files to big?

Shouldn't matter if it's photos. Does the timeline render and play back fine in premiere pro?

I've been using this method for a few years now and I discovered by accident that you can actually use these previews and export to H.264 or something. It only adds a tiny bit of time to your export but you'll have to put the prores back into media encoder anyway. I tested with and without prores previews and exported to H.264, I went from 15 min render to 2 mins or something.

Hello, I use windows instead of apple. If I change everything in the Sequence and I know I want to make an MP4 movie, QuickTime won't work, will it? And then before I export to mp4 do I have to change everything in the Sequece. You put preview file format in QuickTime but I have to change that if I want to export an mp4. I think it is a lot of work and the more actions, the greater the chance of mistakes.

Brilliant tip, thanks for sharing! 2 questions for you: 1. Do you find there being a need to convert video to h264 via media encoder prior to uploading to KZfaq instead of just uploading the .mov file? My guess would be there may be an impact on the final video quality perhaps. 2. If there is a benefit to converting to h264 prior to uploading to KZfaq, would having Video Render Preview set to h264 and still using video preview in the export be helpful? I'm thinking it would skip the need to use Media Encoder, however didn't know if it slowed down the timeline performance. Thanks so much!

Glad you enjoyed it! 1. .mov is just a container-like .mp4, so either is fine. But youtube compression is really good now so it can handle any format and still deliver a great result. 2. It will just be a smaller file to upload so will take less time. The main thing is you don't want to pre-render in h.264 then export in h.264 ideally, as you're double compressing the video then. Then when you upload youtube will do another round of compression.

No because Prores is a uncompressed file format :)

great video bro! I have been using this method as well but the thing that is really annoying is that it takes so long to upload to youtube because the file sizes are HUGE. Is there any workaround to this while still keeping good quality?

You can try making your media h.264. but can't guarantee good quality.

Mann this is soo good! I swear small tweaks in settings in premiere make the biggest difference ! 🔥🔥🔥 How much do social platforms like fb yt linked in compress that apple proxy 422 codec? Would it be as good as a h.264 codec?

Oh i wouldn't upload to Facebook or Instagram in ProRes. Convert to H.264 in media encoder from the ProRes final export. But this will save you a tonne of time if you need to make tweaks etc and re-render

Hey, mate. Good to hear a fellow Aussie on KZfaq, and, yours was the best one out of all the options (on this topic). With that said, maybe you could assist me further in this matter. I am editing on PP, and have applied heavy compression effects to my audio, and also 'beauty box (a smoothing effect) to my face. Currently, a simple clip takes 2 hours at least to render (so I'm still on yellow line thingie). This is after applying your advice. So, my question is (if you hvae time), am I doing this as fast as possible? Thanks man for the cool clip, and Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.

Thanks dude. So this method is to speed up the final render. Rendering effects will still take a lot of time. The only way to make that faster is to have a better GPU or CPU

Hi! I have a slight problem. When I use smart rendering, my CPU and GPU usage doesn't go up at all, rather, my disk (which is an external HDD) it goes up to 100% like it's copying files or something but the render times are actually much much longer than what they were normally exporting in h.264. Is it normal or should I only use smart rendering with an SSD?

I’ve been struggling with a ProRes export being over 22gb and previews being 125gb and it still exporting in 38 minutes. Which the final video has a hiccup and lags or some other glitch. I’m tired of having to export everything again. I didnt think of proxy to export. Thanks! I really have to switch to Final Cut or Davinci

But the problem is that i don't have apple res as a codec option while setting up the preview settings. Maybe that's because im on windows..and also i can't set h.264 as preview file format because it isn't there...the formats i can select for preview is MPEG and Microsoft AVI...and some more but the problem with MPEG is that it isn't available in export settings so basically i can only select AVI for both the settings

Hmm that weird, try disabling the clip that it stops on and try again. It might have an unsupported effect on it or something.

@@zaidibeatz Thats because you're rendering into prores which is a semi uncompressed format. The other option is to set your pre-render to h.264 then do your final render in h.264 as well

You can do the same thing but make the pre-rendered files in H.264. However it is not advised because then you're compressing an already compressed file.

You should be able to pre-render in h.264 then final render in h.264. But you're compressing the files twice which isn't a very good idea.

Dude i just had a 1 minute after effect file for a wedding that took 36 hours to rendering. ive had another file that took 5 hours to render in after effects. i usually finish in premiere pro because of quick rendering and even with my other 5 hour COMPLETELY render videos, premiere pro still was showing me an additional 5 hours of render time...WTF. I WATCH THIS VIDEO applied the methods... new render time is 12 MINUTES!! YOU THE MAN BRO!!

yeah... thats great and all but even rendering my in to out costs me like 2 hours for 10 minutes of footage. It's a brand new video edit PC worth 3000euros.

Try turn off effects to figure out what is causing it to be so slow so you can fix it :)

I have the problem that my gpu renders 100% and my cpu 0-50%. It should be 100% cpu. help? :(

GPU Rendering is much faster then CPU :)

@@shisuna4030 Premiere pro will never use 100% CPU. It never has. Just how it's always been unfortunately.

Doesn’t work to well for lengthy projects. It took me 12 plus hours to render.

The thing that annoys me is, when you move a clip you have to render yet again. So annoying.

Do not try this.... Without knowing your computer specs its takes larger spaces and if your pc can't handle your pc will be destroyed permanently.... This man not telling proper

Make sure to upload on wifi if possible. And limit to 1080x1920 @ 16,000kbps
