So glad you made this. It’s not a common part, so there’s very little internet information about these valves. You saved my hide!

This is really excellent. You've covered it from every possible angle. Super easy to follow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I attempt to rescue my ancient American Standard.

Thank you for making this video! I'm trying to help an elderly friend of mine save her 1940 one piece American Standard toilet with a leaking flush valve. Your video is exactly the information I needed. By the way, I used to live in Indialantic, FL... :)

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! Nicely done. You covered everything. I live in an historic state park and everything is early 20th century. Especially the plumbing!

Great installation instructions. But the removal of my old flush valve is proving challenging. On my old unit, the two dog ears are conneected via bolt with a nut not with tabs. There is no room to fit a screwdriver (must have been installed as one piece) and the existing bolts on the base are rusted. I can't budge them even with a little WD-40.

Great video, I was able to replace it. Thanks! The reminder not to overtighten helped. I didn't have any tracing dye, oh well.

Hey Tim, Great vid. Nice job! Thank you! I have a question, though. In my Dad's 61 year old toilet, I'm replacing the old, original Tower flush Valve. I do know that the AS 047107-0070A is the correct valve for his toilet but, the original toilet lever has to be replaced also because there is no hole for the chain clip on that rod. On At the end of the rod, instead, there is simply a rubber "grommet" that pushes the old tower valve up when the lever on the tank is pushed down. Would you happen to know what that lever part # might be? Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

Awesome!!! Have been working on our family’s old American Standard toilet and the flapper takes forever to drain of water so it’s running much longer than it should. It seals fine just takes forever. I’d though if widening that drain hole or adding extra weight to the flapper…any best suggestions?

Thanks so much for this video!! I'm trying to save my vintage American Standard green toilet as well which has a slow water leaking issue (from tank to bowl). I know it can be the flapper or the flush valve. With a full tank of water I shut the water off at the wall and just let it sit for a few hours, the water level in the tank start to drain out and eventually go down to be at the same level as the flapper and stops there. So I think the issue probably is the flapper? However, I'm not sure if I should replace it with American Standard 047250-0070A or 047107-0070A. Any idea about their differences? Also, if it's just that there are gouges on the surface, can we use sandpaper or something to smooth out that gouges? Thoughts? Thanks!

Is there any more modern flush valve (ie Korkys?) that would work? I have a flush valve that won't go down after flushing. I'm having a hard time finding these parts.

I have one of these toilets, and I was just wondering if it is possible to use a standard flapper on it?

I have 3 of these toilets. Been battling the flush valves for over 30 years. Always something going wrong. Is there a conversion kit to a more reliable type of flush valve. I see others have the same question but no answer. Thank you.

I’ve got one of these toilets, American Standard, sea foam green, entire bath is the same and in very good shape. The date on it reads 1950 to 1959. Can’t remember exact date. My problem is getting someone to work on it for me. I bought what appears to be a universal piece, looks identical, but after watching your program it’s probably the wrong piece. So, I’m trying to learn how to fix it myself. Question, where on the flush valve or tank do I find the part number? Thank you.

Great video.... exactly what I was hoping to find.... but one question..... my friends valve is dropping too early and does not allow a complete flush. ... otherwise working fine. I did not see any way to adjust it so it stays vertical longer. Is there a way to adjust that?

I followed all the directions, I have the brass 47086-07 which is new including new plug holes and seat disk and still getting a slow drop in the tank water; I have re-checked and redid everything and have tightened down the screws/lugnuts but still get a slow drop. I am pretty sure I have it quite snug, I am reluctant to go much further as you have cautioned regarding cracking the china. Any other suggestions? I did note that when I pulled the old one off, the lugnuts were advanced on the screws quite a bit and not nearly as much with the new replacement, ? gasket less compressible or still a way to go. Thank you.

I have something like this in my toilet but the chain has come lose or broke. Unable to see into the tank as there is a shelf above the tank that cannot be removed. How do I replace/fix the chain?

Would it be a good idea to put 100 % silicone on the valve where gasket goes then put gasket on then put more silicone on gasket then place the valve down in and tight screws . And let silicone cure , of course the tank will be wiped dry of all water . This way your guarantee not have have any leaks or water bleeding under gasket
