I have a Chevrolet but I have a friend of mine that has his dad's F-150 does having the same issues that you have showed and fixed on your truck he would like to give his dad One Last Ride in his dad's old truck before his dad passes and I am just trying to help him so he can do that for his father so thank you very much the video was very helpful

run a wire thru the axle tube and tie a rag on it, pull it back out to clean properly.

Does both wheels need to be lifted off the ground in order to spin that ring gear manually?

Ummm. I needed to see the actual work to pull out the bearing using the slide hammer. Because mines not coming out. Help a dude out . Thanks

Will this method work in a '97 F-150 with drum brakes? I'm hearing the rear wheels grind a little and I know for certain I need to change those since I've already replaces the oil and brakes. But I've yet to see any instructional with drum brakes instead of rotors.

The older 9" Ford rear ends, and the Mopar rear ends with removable pumpkins use a bearing pressed on the axle, and retainer plates with 4 bolts under the axle flange. Pretty much if you have a rear cover plate like this one, you will have clips inside.

When installing the axle bearing, do the numbers stamped into the bearing race face out or face in?

I found this out too late but one side is magnetized. The magnetized side has to face out towards the ABS

Always remove the fill nut first. Doing all that work and then realizing the fill nut is stripped or damaged will ruin your month.

No sir, those bearings sit in an oil bath from the differential. The seal at the end keeps the oil from coming out the end. That's how you know if the seal has gone bad, when your rotor and brakes are covered in oil.

That's exactly my issue, rotor is covered in oil and grease, mostly the back side of it. Watching this video confirms I'm not going to be the one doing it lol, to complex for me. Not to mention I live in the north and the diff pan bolts are so rusted they would most likely snap. That is if I even managed to get the socket on the heads of the bolts without it chewing it up. I'm leaving this to a shop or just live with it for now.

Those shitty bearings run right on the axle shaft, a terrible ford idea. [ no inner race] notice the scarring - the bearing will fail again soon. need to polish or replace axle shaft. someone should make a aftermarket bearing with a inner race! Save a million axle shafts.
