This is the first time ever that I actually went back to a learning video just to post a comment! Michael is amazing! And everything he says is true. I took the toefl test back in 2017 and got a 22 on writing (after studying from the Kaplan book). I retook it because my uni wanted a 24 or higher on writing and I honestly didn’t have time to study like I did before because of both work and exams, so I watched all his videos. I can honestly say that taking the toefl test after watching these videos and learning the templates was waaaaayyy easier than studying for it. I felt very confident, and it was so simple once you have a solid template in your head prior to taking the test. Thank you Michael , you just saved me $5,000 and a semester of advanced English writing that the uni was forcing me to take if I didn’t get a 24. (Also, it’s a shame that your videos aren’t the first to show when searching for toefl tips) TL:DR: I got 27 on writing using Micheal’s template.

Shoutout to Michael for making TOEFL preparation straightforward. I watched all your videos and particularly followed your essay samples. I highly recommend using the template to organize and fill in the ideas for the writing task. Got my scores today 104 - R25, L27, S24, W28. Once again thank you for making these videos.

Thank you so much for these resources! I took TOEFL at home a week ago, and only had one night to prepare so I memorized the structure from your speaking and writing videos. I got my score today, I got 30 on speaking and 29 on writing! And I was sure I failed at speaking because I got confused by questions, started answering too late with some and finished too early with others, but it seems that it didn't matter at all. I just wish I gave myself enough time too proof-read the essays like you advise, so I hope everyone else remembers to do so. Couldn't have done it without your videos.

These videos really help me a lot. During the time preparing TOEFL, I was always wondering if 5 paragraphs are better than 4 paragraphs in the independent writing section. Turns out that 4-paragraphs is fine! and the important point is giving examples of your thoughts. (The first time I take TOEFL I got 23 in writing because I only wrote narrative sentences) I got 109 recently on my test (R27 L28 S27 R27). Like, let's say the question is "What do you think is more suited for people to have as their pet, a dog or cat?" then should I go like "Dog is more friendly. On the other hand, cat is not as friendly as dog."?? Is the comparison between dog and cat even necessary?

Is it okay to lie about personal examples? Or are there any penalties if someone finds out I‘m only 18 and probably haven‘t raised two children yet etc. thanks!

Hi Michael, Before anything else, thank you very much for your videos. It was very educational and direct to the point, and I totally love it. In preparation for my exam this September, I would like to ask about your recommended word count for the independent essays (380-400 words). In all honestly, I’m having problems on how to lengthen my paragraphs. Given my profession, I’m more versed in writing technical reports, which demands me to write in the most concise manner possible. Hence, I barely reach your recommended word count. I hope you could provide some insights on how I could address this matter. Thank you in advance and always stay safe!

Focus on personal examples. Those are easy to stretch out. They should make up about 60% of each body paragraph. Start with a beginning that sets the scene, then include a middle that describes how you dealt with the situation, then conclude with an ending that talks about the long-term effect of the example. Does that help at all?

@@Toeflresources Hi Michael, Just wanted to thank you for your tips and recommendations. Although I failed to reach the recommended word count, I still got 25/30 for my writing test! Thank you so so much. It was the independent essay that got me (I think). The question was - If you want to promote the ecotourism in your city, will you renovate old buildings and roads to improve their appearance or will you hire more police to promote safety? My mind seriously went blank. I have literally no idea what I wrote but since I passed. I'm happy. Again, thank you so much and always stay safe!

I wrote . before the term "because" For example i was really upet by him. Because blabla And at the end of the passage i wrote / Except writing . for one time because i didn't have enough time and although i wrote more than 370 words i failed to write conclusion perfectly i just rewrote my general opinon and one more sentence to support. For instance : As a result in my opinon blablabla because it is easy And i didn't have enough time to revise it and didn rechecked the entire passages so there will be few typos but, i did well on providing opinons and examples alomost same as the video How much score will i get ??? I have to get 83 to get in the KATUSA which is American army that is in Korea and i scored 26/30 from listening and 24/30 from reading and i think except one integrated question i didn't do well on speaking

Hello Michael. I watched all your videos and I’ve done everything that you said on them for the Speaking and Writing sections. However, I scored 21 in both. After I asked a review for these results, I got 25 in Speaking but the Writing section remained in 21. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong since I used your structures to every question. Plus, I was much more confident in the writing section because I could extract all the information to build the structure for the integrated writing question. Anyway, I can’t do my application to the university by just one point in writing... I guess it’s just bad luck. Just wanted you to know that you’re a good professional but your methods didn’t work out for me. Thanks

“In twenty years, there will be fewer cars in use than there are today.” Do you agree or disagree? 445 words Transportation is a necessary asset of the people. Life without having appropriate means of transportation is atrocious. As the generation advances, new means to travel to different places will take place. In my eye, the statement that “in near future, there will be fewer cars than there are today” does not ring true to me. I believe that there are two reasons for it, which I am going to explore in the following essay. A lot of articles and research says that there will not be sufficient fuel available in the next 10 to 20 years. Fuels such as petrol, diesel are the important fuel gases as most of the cars need them for operation. Moreover, research says there will be much less ignition fuel available for cars as most of the fuel is already being extracted and only a little of it is available. However, as the world is advancing, new technology helps to cope up with the problems. For example, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla company, produces electric cars that run efficiently and have a lot of features compared to other cars available. Likewise, looking at the success of Tesla, most of the other car manufacturing companies have also started to gear up the more production of electric cars and to focus on this sector as much as they can to compete and to be steady in the market for elongated run time. This transition will lead us to have a variety of new cars in near future. The world is advancing at a rapid speed. Human is capable to do anything if he deliberately wants to change the law of science and nature for the betterment of society. Projects such as flying cars are already at a definite level in most of the scientific research organization. Whereas, a lot of new car designs are being proposed which comprise building a car model from a two-wheel motorbike. For instance, I had an internship in the Toyota automobile new generation company. Here, my colleagues and I were assigned to work on a prototype model in which we had to design a car from a two-wheeler. This prototype will be effective for so many middle-class people in my country who cannot afford a car. This car is a model that accumulates the feature of a motorcar and a motorbike together, which makes it unique; because of less cost compared to cars that are available in the market. To sum up, I firmly believe that, due to technology up-gradation in the future, more innovative and low-cost efficient cars will be available. Therefore, there will be more cars in the next twenty years than they are today.

Hello! Thanks for this amazing content. I have been using your resources to get ready for my TOEFL exam. I have to say that your resources are amazing, they are simple and useful. On the other hand, I have an important question for you, which has become a big problem for me. I am having trouble in finding specific examples, even if I tried so many times to write an essay in 30 minutes with a timer, I am finding myself in a serious time-management problem, what do you prefer to me? One more thing, in this video you are telling that approximately 300 words out of 400 should be our aim to write a well-organized essay, and my avarage is about 220 unique words for 400. However, I have checked a couple of your sample essays, and found that your unique words are mostly around 220-240. Don't get me wrong, I just need an advice to understand a good unique word interval for independent writing section. Thanks a lot, if you manage to answer these questions! Keep your awesome content, you are helping to other people greatly!

Well, for time management check out this video for ideas: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbaaiqyHt7mrkn0.html You might be overthinking the examples. They don't need to be interesting or compelling. They just need to be on-topic. There is nothing in the rubric about how "interesting" the examples are. The number I mentioned in the video was not a guideline. Honestly, I don't count the number of unique words. Just try to make your range as wide as possible. The point is to avoid repeating words.
