I mean. That just means you’re logical in the placement of your human body. Why leave your room if you have basically everything you need in there and humans tend to be the most dangerous thing on the planet? Should we leave our rooms just because not doing so makes others think weirdly about it? I don’t think so. If you don’t have a reason to leave your room - probably don’t do so. ~INTP

Completely agree with the notion that 90% of me is hidden to the outside world. Which is possibly why I enjoy my own company and consider myself my best friend. Edit: that’s not to say I don’t have real friends. Of course I do, but they don’t understand me to the level I understand myself or even to the level I understand them.

Not necessarily true. I know myself inside and out and can describe everything. We INFPs often get emotionally adopted, I've noticed. Like a stray cat someone decides to lure into a forever home, no matter how mangy and weird that cat [thinks it] is. I've yet to fully comprehend the reasoning behind this behavior, but I got married SOMEhow, which is nice.

My 17-yr-old son is an INFP. He goes out with his friends, and despite conventional wisdom about how dumb groups of boys can be, I feel confident that if a bad idea came up, he wouldn't participate. He's got his compass, and no amount of peer pressure is going to persuade him. It's my ESFP 13-yr-old I'm worried about. 😂
@Akranejames
@Akranejames 2 жыл бұрын
From my own experience as a 25-years-old INFP guy, that sounds about right. The only times I've seen something really dumb brewing up, I took a step back and just watched whatever was about to happen while making some effort to de-escalate but mostly just being curious as to how badly it was going to flop. And from what I've gathered from the Internet, it seems to be a pretty common INFP characteristic to be the wise but detached friend that is going to stay out of trouble (mostly) and council you if you're willing to listen but that will definitely let you fail to learn whatever lesson can be learned from it. TL;DR: I wouldn't see a typical "observer" type get in much trouble to be honest.

I love the INFPs. They are so enigmatic and positive. They think on their feet and have deep philosophies - but they’re so humble. Undyingly loyal. So very true to themselves. Always trying. I think there’s this idea that INFPs are lazy...and yeah I think that’s probably true a lot of the times - but they’re always reinventing the wheel. They’re always getting back up again and taking a crack at life in a new and different way - trying to improve themselves and their understanding of the world. It makes them incredibly resilient. They can get cut easily and deeply - but killing them is another matter entirely. They heal surprisingly fast and then they rebound. They’re never the same version of themselves twice. Their emotions are like rocket ship fuel. When their emotions and their desire to produce something combine - they can be powerhouses of work and dedication. They’re not easily intimidated by learning new things. They’re incredibly hard to phase when it comes to sharing intense philosophies or crazy ideas. You can get away with murder. It’s okay - they’ll forgive you. They always surprise me too with the weird random skills they have. Just out of nowhere - and the creativity they bring to those skills. There are very few humans I would suggest are unpredictable at this point in my social intelligence development - but INFPs are one such genre. They just always leave me guessing - and that’s what keeps me coming back. If only I had dated an INFP male. Maybe I would have ended up married 🤷‍♀️ ~INTP PS: I forgot my favorite part. You can vanish on them for weeks and then come back like nothing happened and they act like they’re just totally okay with that. No other type seems to be like this. I have to have massive anxiety every time I go into ghost mode because most of the people I know are going to voice emotions about that.

I was reading this article on resilience and infj and infp were on the top of the list. But they had very different type of resilience, the infj type is more like a Rock, where it takes so much to break them. On the other hand infps are something like a spring where they easily get pushed down under pressure but they come back up again and again and again.

Sometimes we do find it '' annoying'' to fit in this society, because we see it as limited and conforming. Do I rather do the dishes or travel to non ordinary realities? The choice is easy. But the more we mature, the more we find the balance, and the more we expand our vision of what is actually possible to create in the physical realm too. So we start to combine both worlds. @@angelbear_og I think it depends on the circumstances under which you last interacted with the person. If I know there were several texts & phone calls I never responded to, or I was supposed to call them back but never did, then I will apologize ... briefly. Don't belabor the point and draw too much attention to the negative. Sometimes when I apologize people don't even remember what I'm talking about lol. But I'd use their reaction as a guide: If they say NBD or don't care (and seem genuine), quickly move forward. And if they are upset about your absence (and this person actually means something to you), well, I think you owe them an honest explanation. On the other hand, if there aren't any loose ends like unfulfilled obligations or broken promises looming over you as the elephant in the room, then I see no reason why you shouldn't act as if nothing happened. I have friends I can go years without seeing and I can't possibly imagine guilt tripping them over not talking to me. I mean, come on, we all have lives, and who wants the attention of someone they have to chase after? To me, if someone doesn't want my company, I don't want theirs (and not in a "fine then!" petulant way, lol). Just think of your presence as a gift they should be happy to have bestowed on them whenever you should feel so generous 😅 I don't recommend making excuses. It can make you seem disingenuous, dishonest or placating them, and it can eat you up with guilt later on if you lied or exaggerated. But the worst part is it can give people the wrong idea... that you actually WANT to see them more but there are pesky obstacles in your way... then all of a sudden you find yourself in a situation where they're blowing up your phone or trying to help you remove those obstacles so you can spend allv your time together... 😨 Don't unwittingly encourage undesired behaviors.

I mean, I'm expressive, yes... but if I feel something DEEPLY, I'm going to keep it to myself and maybe drop a few hints in the hope s someone will notice, and then probably deny it once if they DO ask just to test if they really care. But I get uncomfortable in certain emotional confrontations like when people overshare. Like if a speaker gets up on stage and starts talking about something personal, fully knowing he's going to get really emotional about it... it can often feel like he's exploiting his own personal emotions to manipulate mine. And because emotions can be very powerful to me, I guard against it a LOT. In the same way, when I was a kid, I would not be easily bribed if I felt something went against my natural instinct. You couldn't bribe me or guilt trip me... you have to persuade me and make me WANT to do something.

The disappearing thing, atleast for me comes down to a strong need for reflection, like almost when you lose touch with who you are or what you want in life. These two things are especially important and oftentimes its easy to drift away from that when being overwhelmed by the presence of certain other people and situations that are stressful. I dont think in my life ive ever been disconnected from my emotions but rather confused by them, where im depressed for no reason. I would say as an infp a lot of life just comes down to learning emotions and people and in my mind once ive done that to the best i can i will be a better person externally :)

I detach myself and wander into my own worlds for a lot of reasons. It can be to vent to people who aren't actually there, for pure amusement and enjoyment as if I'm watching a TV show or movie, sometimes to reflect on feelings and thoughts I've faced recently. I see it for myself as both a coping mechanism and a form of meditation. I never detach myself from reality whilst other people are around, at least not anymore (maybe as a kid playing games) because the events that unfold in our worlds are incredibly personal. At least for me, the world I enter is almost always a reflection of a happening in my life. When I lose my privacy, I lose my ability to wander through my worlds and really sort out my feelings and thoughts, which can be incredibly overwhelming. Sometimes, we just disappear because we need a break from people. Too much overexposure to even someone we feel inseperable from can feel tiring after a while. There are also people who are just flat out uninteresting or uncomfortable to be around lolol. Truth is, at least for me, people are an absolutely vital part of life. Close friends and family are my lifeblood and it's pretty bad when we lose connection with someone. I prefer to appear to everyone as joyful, fufilled and full of energy but sometimes I am the complete opposite. I put on a facade not because I don't want to bring everyone's mood down but because I don't want to fully realise the gravity of my situation because once it's out there, it becomes really real. I don't know if this is true for most INFPs but personally, if I ever opened up to someone wholly and completely and on my own terms, it usually means I'm desperate for help or validation. The person I go to also has to be someone I completely and wholly trust and respect. And to your last question, there are definitely times where I am trying to feel something but literally can't. Moments where I just completely spiral and become void of emotion. In these moments, I can't detach and I definitely won't reach out and instead will likely just go to bed and sleep, no matter what time of the day it is.

@@slipskolt7300 I really relate to what you said about venting to people in my head (not always actual people that I know, sometimes ones I've created) as a coping mechanism because they are often more gentle on me and validate me more than people in the outside world. I also relate to the part where, when I express what's going on with me inside into the external world, it becomes real and that's often scary for me. -INFP

I need to get over my INFP "Crush/Love" or whatever she is. This is bad. I'm obsessing over her. Fml. Why. Am. I. Watching. This??? Im INTP though some argue that im not introverted enough. But cognitive functions say I'm a mix. Idk i once got ISTP, plenty of times INTP, once INFP a couple of times ENTP and recently ENFP and INTJ And ENTJ That can't be right. I'm INTP. With facets. I improved. I learned to respect feelers and to keep a schedule and not be unorganised. I can handle money and i pay my bills immediately. My room is tidy, my mind is chaotic. I work a lot. I go to a party from time to time. I am able to well recognise that i have feelings. Expression is meh but i don't deny them any more. My point is: I'm an INTP obsessing over this INFP girl and i need to stop. Immediately. I have finals that i have yet to fail. Y'all INFPs are f ing irresistible...damn me I became soft. Where is the undo button??

As an INFP, it's somewhat nice to know that other types go through this too. Not that i like seeing anyone in pain, but it's almost like it adds a certain element of humanity to my personality to make me feel a little less alien 🖖 One thing is for sure- you can't force an INFP to do something they don't feel is right for them, or occasionally maybe you can, but the results are going to be disastrous. Assuming she know how you feel, your best bet is likely to try to move on and either work on yourself (the best option) or at least try to remind yourself that there are legitimately, literally billions of figurative fish in the equally figurative sea and work towards meeting someone else. If it's not reciprocated, it probably would also be best to minimize time around this person as much as possible as well, for a better chance of moving forward. If she does NOT know how you feel, it's possible you should have an open and honest discussion about it- there's a fair chance she's too much in her own world to even realize it and equally likely that she sees something there, but is unsure and unwilling to make the first move. Rejection is always a possibility in this case, and it's Definitely painful, but near as painful as pining over someone with whom there is no chance of being with for an extended period of time because you're too afraid to speak up and find out. Like for instance, someone having a ridiculously large crush on someone of the opposite gender for like 3 years only to be able to finally work enough of something casually into a conversation to find out that not only is the person in a committed very long-term relationship, but also gay. (True story! Lol)

@@jesthebob naaw thank you very much for your kind words and that you actually took the time to write this comment. For me, i know she's bi and I'm gay so that wouldn't be a problem and i did indeed had a crush on her for a good year or so(?) And as stereotypical it may sound i didn't make a move until last month. We're very close friends and she rejected me. Idk i can't force her into something. i know she likes me. Platonically. Thats it unfortunately. Sometimes i do struggle if im not good enough or " worthy " but i try to not blame it on me, meaning that she doesn't like me because i suck but because she just doesn't like me for no specific reason. From my experience INFP are not superficial. She doesn't mind me being broke ( I'm a student). Quite the opposite she "helps" (mocks) me with money by reminding me of how much money i can spend. I am a kind person evn tho i hide it. Im the type of guy who will go after you as brutally honest as it gets but when we are alone i will show my soft side. Im dressed completely black but show me a cat or a dog or any animal and ill behave like a happy child on Christmas eve. She knows my soft side. And i hate it. She teases me alot b of it. I pretend to be tough and at the end we cry together. we also share the same humor, can laught together for hours, i am intelligent and creative. We make great art together. Well she draws i come up with the idea. and i hadn't had a traumatic relationship that i need to recover from. I do struggle with emotions and mental health tho but i don't think any of this is the reason. I don't fall often. 3 times in my life so far. But when i do, oh boi call 911 bc its gonna be a heavy fall. Squashed. Anyway this isn't really interesting for somebody else to read tho so ... thanks again for your kind words and enjoy the day.

The closer your cognitive functions are the more compatible you are as friends, for example I know an INFP and their closest friends are all other INFPs, some variety is good but a lot of types clash especially over time when the relationship gets deeper. I'm not saying it can't happen, but INFPs need different types to be very mature in order to tolerate them.

@@spring7643 I totally agree! One of my bestfriends is an INFP. And I get along really well and harmonious with ENFPs and INTPs. But I also get along with other types like ESFJs, ISFJs, ESFPs, ENFJs and surprisingly also with ESTPs and ESTJs (my hubby being an ESTJ) but I’d say it’s very challenging to get along with them. It’s either hate or love relationship though. I also find it challenging being with ENTJs and I am kinda amused by ENTPs.

Love this so much. I want my daily needs to simply be taken care of so that I can freely let my mind wander on intellectual topics. Trying to find a career path that is meaningful, yet also pays decently and is not intrusive if my life is INCREDIBLY difficult. Plus, our dislike of institutions brings out our cynicism which is very difficult when you have to become a sycophant to become inducted into the institution/career you are trying to join. I'm in grad school as a bit of a career change/correction to hopefully become a psychologist -- a career I believe will be more meaningful to me than what I went to undergrad for. But I'm also slowly realizing that despite the higher credential, more often then not a psychologist is paid more mostly because of having a wider scope of responsibilities. I think I will enjoy and find meaning in the profession, but it wouldn't surprise me either if I were to be a very laid back psychologist who would rather work a little less, even if it means a pay cut -- have a work-life balance where I can keep my career in check from limiting my personal life too much. But, as it stands, first year in my master's program, and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at times with the expectations (i.e. -- applying to practica for next year right now and being de-prioritized because of lack of experience, trying to get research experience to be competitive for PhD applications next fall, etc.).
