@@kobiecamp1134 I agree with you. I never run during a fight. Depending on the opponent (and their stupidly aggressive attcking) I wait for them to attempt a strike first, counter based off of what they do and their speed, then perform several strikes followed by a situational takedown. My verbage is vague because a real fight is unpredictable, but speed has always been my friend and has not failed me yet. The best thing to do is to try to avoid a fight altogether, but it can be difficult to reason with a person of a lower intellect (which most people who start a fight tend to be idiots) so a physical altercation is not always avoidable. It may be controversial, but letting your opponent strike first and then striking their limbs to intentionally break their hands and arms works very well since most people guard their head assuming that is where you will strike. That is also a good way to avoid jail because you were defending yourself and did not start the fight. Never run as long as the attacker is upright. That is a good way to be attacked from behind. Get them down before you run. Of course, knocking them unconscious is the best option because then you can just walk away. Have no mercy for someone who attacks you. Don't kill them, but be sure to break or fracture something on them so that, whenever they think about being violent again, that can be a reminder to them about what happened the last time they picked a fight.

@@xaicast55 Can't argue with anything you said. Matter of fact the way that you think can also, and should be applied if you're facing a dog, or dealing with a man who's pointing a gun at you. For if you don't have enough distance to run from a dog to shelter he will catch you, and bite you from behind(making it harder to defend yourself). So you need to face that dog, and fight him head on for best results. And if a man pulls a gun out, or tries to pull a gun out from close distance to your body(with intentions to shoot you) you need to attack him with disarmament skills. Because if you run you're in danger of being shot in the back.

I have used straightforward Wing Chun punches to the chest before in a real fight, it works perfectly as the opponent is expecting big telegraphed punches so if you do short sharp punches straight from the hips they don't see them coming.

Very well done, Mr. Kevin Lee, in terms of reminding the levels, which I recommend to have more emphasized: Beginners, as you know for sure, are on the receiving end, have to ensure passive defence, safe blocks, first, -Intermediate practitioners can see the hit arriving, so they able move first to the side and then block better, -Advanced can be recommended to do counteractions, but in my opponion, blocks and thrughs wiil do, at first. Hits, if tnot done properly, weekly, may raise anger on the part of the agressor! I see alot of comments saying this looks legit and effective. I have to disagree. He is counting on a straight punch which rarely happens in a streetfight. While elbowing a 16oz glove may be simple enough a barehand is small and slips through guard easily in comparison. In addition to that the rest of his body is left very exposed. Techniques that require a high level of accuracy usually dont work for an average guy in a real fight when tensions are high and everything is happening at full speed. The hand can be guided into the elbow as he demonstrates and same for the bicep strike. (Both techniques I was taught). The trapping and punching techniques do look pretty solid I will say that.

Very good video. Good technique application instructions. Love the destructions. One of the biggest factors that I feel can mean the difference between being able to pull this off successfully, (or any other technique for that matter) is knowing how to or being able to set yourself up for success by getting to the right distance from your opponent when things go down. If you are only capable or comfortable at fighting from certain ranges and you find it difficult to occupy that range depending on the environment or situation you find yourself in then it will be a challenge. Mastering your awareness for your Surroundings can help you master awareness of the opponents in your Surrounding.

Here's a fun way to get used to seeing full-power techniques coming at you, from Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan. When doing drills (not free sparring) we measure our distance so our techniques stop a fraction of an inch off of the target on our training partner and we throw every technique with full power. This not only teaches you what it looks like to have that coming at you, it teaches what it looks like to throw at another human as well as the amount of both precision and technical control. One of the biggest problems sport artists have is not realizing that you have to actually learn techniques in a controlled environment before you can effectively use them. You all do the exact same thing when learning new techniques in BJJ or new punch angles in boxing. Those theories don't work either if you don't put the time into practicing them. Those practitioners need to stop being so insecure and go be happy with their ring sports.

@Kommisar as a former Soo Bahk Do practicioner, I totally agree. Soo Bahk Do is really good to train control and restrain, but the issue of punching and kicking at the opponent remains, which is the same problem with this video, the guy with gloves could be punching faster than a world class champion, yet nothing happens because he is not punching with the intent to hit. In a real fight you punch and/or kick through your opponent.

@@toughdeer2908 I admit it was a bit of a jerk comment from me, but I think it's a real problem that anyone can hang out a shingle and teach any martial art as if they are all equally effective. Does it matter if it's not a conscious scam? I'm not sure. It still results in the student having a false sense of security. The tradeoff with the practical arts where people train against realistic resistance is that they tend to be hard on your body. The fairest thing one could say about arts like Wing Chun is that they may work sometimes without being as rough on your body to learn, but I think that would be too truthful to retain students. Everyone naturally wants to believe he's on the path to being a kung-fu badass. :)

Yeh, try applying techniques from multiple systems when the shit hits the fan and see how that works out for you. Bruce Lee tried the same thing before he developed JKD. He wanted to create a “super gung fu system” by taking bits and pieces from other system, soon realised in application it’s not practical, look it up if you’re unaware. Leo Fong talks about it. It sounds good in theory, doesn’t work in practice.

@@MrBentalton777 no. MMA is taught as a “style” under one style. It’s not separated. Besides, you’re completely missing the point. You won’t be switching between anything in a real fight. It’s over in seconds. You’ll be doing the few techniques you’ve drilled the most and can apply under pressure. All the other stuff will go out the window. Your point proves nothing. It’s better to know 5 techniques and be able to pull them off under pressure 99% of the time then know 50 techniques and be able to pull them off maybe 5% of the time. MMA isn’t reflective of reality. MMA mostly consists, for the average fighter 2 to 3 styles. Muay Thai as stand up, BJJ as ground system as an example. You are not combining the footwork of boxing with the footwork of fencing, or tae kwon on the fly. They are structured differently, the footwork is different, the weight distribution is different. And for anyone else reading this, JKD is not a “combination of different arts” it’s its own system, comprised of its own footwork, techniques, principles etc. “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” This is what Bruce Lee meant when he said this. It’s better to know a few techniques and be able to pull them off under pressure than know hundreds of techniques you can’t apply under pressure.

Downward elbow destruction onto opponent's fist seems rather difficult to pull off. It seems like you chase the opponent's punch. The other elbow destruction make more sense since it more like just have a on guard boxing position that shift slightly. It already happens (sort of) in regular boxing (ie foreman's cross guard). There is no punch chasing, it just happens when opponent hits your elbow as a good accident for you.

I've studied Wing Chun a long time from shifus second lineage from Ip Man. It's a great style to learn for close contact fighting standing up. I would incorporate that with Muay Thai and boxing, plus wrestling or jiu jitsu. There are four ranges of fighting Trapping, boxing, kicking and ground. If you only learn Wing Chun, you'll probably get your ass kicked in a street fight, plus, physical conditioning is at least half of a serious fight.
@DaftFader
@DaftFader Жыл бұрын
There's also midrange and med-long range moves in wing chun, it's just not often taught that way due to the division of knowledge across the original ip man students and which ones became the most predominant linages in modern times (there are some that are way more focused on kicks for example, like "active wing chun" that stems from ip man too, they focus very little on paksao drills etc, and practise more mid ranged stuff, but ofc hand combat is still a part of their training). There's other non ipman linages that have much longer reaching motions too (some intermingled with TaiChi, others more pure wingchun principles, just a much more complex system in it's totality to the ip man lineage, perhaps unless you learn from every one of his students separately), but for ground work, you 100% need something extra as it's covered very little in most lineages of wingchun, and when it is, it's often been added in more recent times by a wise sifu who does something like BJJ in combination. Wingchun does have it's own ground work to an extent, but it's normally only for when the opponent is on the ground and not you, and would not stand up in the slightest to even some of the low belt coloured BJJ students these days tbh. Also wingchun was designed to combat the fighting styles of the time, so any traditional wingchun will need some tweaking to deal with the updated knowledge in fighting of today. For example boxers from 70 years ago held their fists, palm in Infront of their face, instead of the way the do now palms inwards (or even somewhat downwards). That also wouldn't work today, as things have, and always need to evolve to keep up. ;)

Without those big gloves to intercept, the odds of actually blocking a punch with an elbow is near zero. What is more likely is that the punch slips past the elbow and lands squarely on the face. Further, there will be a second punch, then a third, etc...

@@florisvanlingen So why at the trapping movement the opponent stops after throwing the punch so the other can perform the technique? Thinking that you can be fast enough the deflect a punch, go around it and trap it before he can pull his arm back is delusional. It can only be done in a wrestling or clinch situation. Trying to catch a striker's arm is suicide. Also you tend to forget that in 99% of street fights the first punch is a right hook not a left jab. In fact very few people jab in real fights. So for street fights the thing you should focus on is how to deal with a right hook and forget those destruction BS. If you use elbows you better use them to hit the face not the punch.

"The hand will not be there for the trap in real high intensity fight" To be fair in that level of fight the trap may be adapted or should be at least. "Trapping has to come while in grappling not in a moving strike" That has been debunked a lot in recent years, and is utterly false if you wait for a specific trap or grapple then of course, however even UFC fighters have used some form of parry/block and trap/grapple from a moving strike the effectiveness of those is solely determined by the fighters ability to adapt the move to a counter or another variation.
@WCtrainer1
@WCtrainer1 2 жыл бұрын
@@lsfearls It all depends on what you mean by trapping. I'm referring to pinning (grab-pin & hold) Again, you can't do that in a moving strike. You might be able to pull off a move of a trap here or there but overall it's not effective. There are better ways to "trap" a hand than trying to go for it on a moving strike.

To be effective at wing chun or any martial arts, you need good situational awareness.. and realise that what moves you use is heavily based on threat and your intent after the treat… the real art is seeing what’s going to come before it comes…. Blocking punches with elbow. And holding your hand to the forehead feels a bit odd. Since you are blocking visibility to some extend. I guess you would need to some good level of sparring practice to have that confidence. A boxer would not come just for the head. He would try to weaken your arms or stomach.

First issue, the gloves make for a larger target for the gunt to be performed. 2ndly. beyond the gloves the opponent was aiming his strikes at "focus mit range", wasn't really aiming far enough at the head when "all" his type punched were supposively easy deflected, IT'S NOT THAT EASY with unknown /unpredictable strikes are coming your way along with wild hay-makers . I would say the odds are low you will catch someone in a street fight like this. This is the type of defense MMA folks don't think are realiistic. I have 8 years Wing-Chun & 4 years in Jeet Kune Do in my several "hobbyist" decades of training, I'm no fighter but knew some well, I KNOW MY LANE.

I would agree with you. Especially with the comment about the guy with the gloves not aiming for the head but frequently aiming for the hand. At the very least it uses the therum correctly plus wing chun wasn't really made for the modern day since its literal concept was to be able to train a person much faster then normal to specifically beat more open destruction martial arts such as a majority of the chinese martial arts and stuff like karate and tkd problem is stuff like the standard horse style stance you see usual practitioners stand in is usually to stiff and slow to beat a high level fighter since while it's hard to pick you up a it's very easy to knock someone in that stance back and and down meaning a take down can end the fight in an instant this is proven in the street granted wing chun has counters to this but without years of training and near inhuman reaction time it's not gonna work in literally any situation and this is coming from a guy who loves the art more then anything but even I admit I supplement other arts in while keeping the base form usually like throwing a couple boxing jabs straights hooks and uppercuts here and there as well as a gazelle punch and smash since all six of these punches especially a smash and gazelle punch are devastating point blank even when someone is full on blocking you I usually also throw in muay thai knees and special elbows that arent already in wing chun for more diversity then finally to make sure I dont get beat by a ground and pounder I'm not good at wrestling but learned some counters to grappling to trap them up so even if they get a take down I can 99 percent of the time shrug off and divert it into a counter or weight shift and easily throw them off even if there sitting on my waist unless there over like double my weight and even then that doesnt mean I cant get some cheeky counters in also if you get anything from this remember when in doubt if there charging at you straight kick for the chest if there fast enough to catch it throw Bruce Lee's signature oblique kick I dont care how strong someone is a good kick to the oblique or god forbid the groin is agony

Experience is the best teacher, but engaging without knowledge is suicide. Lessons like these train the mind to see minuscule movements that can help one to expect an attack as well as its direction. Blocking with elbows becomes easier when you have lots of training moving through the movements slowly, because adrenaline will increase your reaction speed in a real altercation. It is quite evident you just watch UFC and think you know things.
