WWE during the global pandemic made some interesting changes to Raw and Smackdown. Vince McMahon also had to make some changes to the booking of WWE in 2020 and 2021. While WWE innovated in the wrestling business during this era, it also didn't take them long to slip back into old habits.

I liked the thunderdome era. Only smackdown Was great at that time.

It was weird and some didn’t like it, but you have to admit that every single wrestler was dedicated to keeping the show alive.

Whether it be the influx of cinematic matches, the eye for an eye match, Raw Underground being a thing (until it wasn't anymore) or the Thunderdome, the pandemic era definitely felt surreal.

2020 was a bad year for everyone, kobe Bryant died, my mom died, lost 13 friends to covid. And brody lee died. I hated 2020.

WM 36/the Covid one was really good. I doubt the Boneyard Match nor the Firefun Flyhouse would've been well received by a live crowd. Imagine going to WrestleMania just to have 2 matches on a TV screen

During that pandemic in 2020 I didn't watch wrestling for 4 months no raw no smackdown no nxt, no aew, and the wwe ppv until June when I watched the 2020 mitb.

I stopped watching in 2018 and was planning on watching again after rumble 2020 but then covid happened. Started officially watching again 5 months again .

It's annoying when people bring up the pandemic era like it was something we could control. Give credit to the wrestling promotions and wrestlers who were dedicated to keeping us fans entertained. Putting their lives out there with a deadly disease. But if you put aside the pandemic, WWE was going to have bad matches, segments and promos. Whether fans were there or not. It's stupid how people keep using the pandemic as an excuse.

I personally LOVED The Thunderdome Era, due to the lack of fans. Maybe it's because I'm older (37), became a wrestling fan on January 1, 1996 (WCW For Life), and prefer the older stuff, but the modern crowds really take me out of it. I feel like they are almost too involved with what's happening now, and maybe it's due to me not watching weekly since around 2010/2011. I pretty much only watch PPVs and highlights now. Hell, I started watching weekly again during The Thunderdome, but then went back to highlights and PPVs once the crowds came back.

It was surreal but I remember Michael Cole saying we’re going to try and take your mind off some things. And it did. I appreciate how hard it was for the performers to get out there and perform to empty stadiums. It was almost like they were going back to the beginning of their careers when they were in training.

I enjoyed the thunderdome era. The in ring action stepped up and also the Tribal Chief was born.

Good video. I have a similar point of view, but for me I never connected or enjoyed 1st the no fans wrestling and then the absurd black mirror come to life: Thunderdome. It was an immediate turn off. Wrestling for me is escapist entertainment. When I see no fans wrestling, or fans in their rooms on an LED screen, I was reminded of the grim reality of lockdowns and the situation of the time. I’m glad it’s over with and our way of life returned.

Been a wrestling fan for like 20 years and ngl this was a tough time to watch and enjoy it and it really goes to show how much a live crowd really elevates a show and really is a big must for these wrestlers. But your right the year started off well with a really good royal rumble but when old bill Goldberg turned up again and basically squashed the fiend i was not optimistic about that wrestlemania because i coudnt give two shits about Reigns vs Goldberg

I couldn’t stand it. Gotta have a crowd. A podcast I listen to, Wrestling Soup, had posited many years before the pandemic that Vince would “Do the show without a crowd if he could”. He got his wish and in my opinion, it was mostly shit.

It was weird because it was they way how Vince McMahon was booking it I heard every time the WWE writers had already made the script Vince would look at it and tear up the scripts and I heard he would yell at the commentators during the matches

I tried my hardest to get back into WWE during the pandemic (after not watching since 2004). I just couldn't. I watched WM36 up to Gronk winning the 24/7 title. That was it for me. Bianca/Sasha at WM37 peeked my interest, and SS22 got me back full blown. Bayley and her new faction hooked me. Haven't missed a show since.

honestly i feel like if it wasn't for the pandemic era happening back in 2020 i don't think that certain notable talents in wwe at that time would have been given a chance to get over become stars and become champions in wwe. i.e roman reigns drew mcintyre bobby lashley & the hurt business (mvp shelton benjamin cedric alexander) asuka sasha banks bayley sheamus & couple of others

cinematic matches were honestly my least favorite part of this era. I only really liked the boneyard match because it would have been sad to see undertaker attempt to wrestle an actual match, especially in front of no crowd. i know internet nerds love the firefly funhouse match, but i honestly find it kind of cringey and overrated. all the other cinematic matches were so bad we collectively decided to forget about them.

I think it sucked for the wrestlers to have to work during a time where everything else was closed. Ultimately i think it was good for peoples mental health that show still went on weekly in the warehouse first then the thunderdome. the wrestlemania was also pretty good with the cinematics. Love this channel, keep going!

@@Black-Circle They were released due to budget cuts or WWE having nothing for them. Every 2nd chance and I mean EVERY Triple H return has either fallen into one of 3 categories, injured, putting into a random faction/tag team, or creative having nothing for them. At least when Vince releases them they can try to make a name for themselves in other promotions if they were really dedicated.

they should've just wrestled in front of a green screen and created an amazing arena with a full crowd by using CGI. Instead of the stupid screens with people's faces on, every show would just look crazy with lights, lasers, fireworks, huge screens and big reactions from the CGI crowd
