The Hungarian Folk Tales stem from original folktale collections, every episode has its special authentic ornamentation. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes.

The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

This folktale is longer than showed in this animation. In the original folktale the boy sees on the land over the river many things: - a pasture full of grass and skinny cows on it, - a land without any grass but with very fat cows on it, - a forrest with trees full of crying birds on them, - two mad dogs who attack each other trying to bite each other, but between them lies a fence, - a rotten, stinking corpse from which mouth a very clear water flows out. When the boy arrives back to the old man (God), he asks Him what those meant. The old man explains: - the skinny cows on a green pasture means, that rich people who are very gready cannot be happy of their wealth, - fat cows on a desert land, that even poor people can live well if they do not spend their money on foolush things, - the woods withe crying birds mens the souls of the children who died before they were baptised, - the dogs attacking each others mean that people who in their lives hated each other, after their death are punished like this, - the corpse from which mouth a clean river flows was in his life a priest that preached beautiful things, saying to people to avoid to make sins, while he lived a life full of sins. The beautiful things he preached is the clear water pouring out from his mouth, while his sinful life is the rotten corpse. These symbols have parallels in the Central Asian and Siberian Shamanistic mythology.

In folklore crossing something usually means protagonist venture “to the other side”. I think boy crossed the bridge on a sheep back, because as a normal human he would be unable to cross it normally. Because “normal” way for human to get to land of the dead is to … well … die. 😅 In Russian folk tales heroes go to land of the dead via Baba Yaga house on chicken legs. It’s interesting how religion and folklore intertwine in cultures. Great story, very beautiful animation.

Since he was allowed to ask for anything, he could have ask God to let all humans back into paradise at least if not into heaven, well whatever, guess he thought: "My family is really poor, and there are probably a lot of people around the world suffering aswell, I will leave them all here to rot and I shall go to heaven with God." ... great kid.

@Nichelle M I believe you are right about it being symbolic of priesthood. The specifics of the story make more sense in that context. First, the boy feeding the sheep could be symbolic of the duties of a priest/minister. There is a quote in the Bible where Jesus asks Peter to "feed His sheep". What Jesus was really saying was that His disciples should care for others like a shepherd does for his flock of sheep. And second, the boy leaving his family could either be him leaving to go into missions or to live with the other priests. There are many examples of this in Bible, most notable being the story of Samuel.

@@PennyMsElite not necessarily. In the Bible, there were several people and prophets who entered into Heaven without dying. One such person was Elijah, who was taken into Heaven in a firey whirlwind, and of course there's Jesus who ascended into Heaven after He was risen from the dead. There was also Enoch (Methuselah's father), who was just walking and talking with GOD, and the LORD enjoyed talking with him so much that He walked him right into Heaven.

It is actually a very old Christian/ Catholic symbol of God/ the Holy Trinity (the triangle represents the father, son and the holy spirit with the eye in the middle watching all over humanity and the world. I believe it is called the "Eye of Providence" in English. I was raised as Catholic and I learned about this symbol in Sunday school way before I learned about the French Revolution, or even about the free masons. However, you can find this symbol in pre-Gothic iconography, so it definitely has a long history and it was adopted by the free masons much later in time. To be honest there doesn't seem to be anything spooky or mysterious about it as its symbolism is quite straightforward, so I don't really get why people are so hooked up on it. I mean I get it's a joke and I always find the reference funny in cartoons, I'm just saying that most symbols only become scary when people forget their meaning.

The Triangle with the eye inside has been a common symbol to represent the "Eye of God" for hundreds of years. Its been only recently that it has been associated with the "Illuminati" secret society, which by the way it's not evil, just secret so people like making up creepy stories about them.

Because Hungarians were Christians before Christianity! But when Roman - Chatolic Christianty was forced upon them they kept their own peaceful religion through folk tales and through other ways ! This is why Hungary is protected by "Boldogasszony" who is Mather Mary but not entirely She is the female Goddess and very powerful! The Hungarian Holy Crown was offered to her so on this way Hungary as country was offered for Jesus Chirst and Hungary on the Charpatian basin is his kingdom!

To understand our hungarian folk tails is not so easy.You must first to understand our couple tousand years old history,and also our anciant Ural-Chaucasian language Also the lovely,and beautiful musik,was collecting by Bela Bartok,and Zoltan Kodaly.We learn and sing those songs from the kindergarten untill adult school years.Even the mothers sing those songs,to they babys

3, 7, 9, 12, 14, 100 etc are important numbers in our folklore. If you watched the other stories in almost all at least one such number would appear. EG 3days make a year 14headed dragon 12 slippers ruined in a night 100 forints for salary etc
