In the town of Rockport, entire blocks are decimated. Harvey barreled ashore overnight packing 130 mph winds, blinding sheets of rain and a treacherous storm surge.

Houston is the 4th largest city in The USA. Have y'all ever seen 26 million people trying to evacuate a city in 3 days? 4 days? They did ask for voluntary evacuations from certain areas and mandatory in others. They have used Houston metro to get people out. Where were that many people going to go? That storm was enormous!! Half of Texas is flooded. It's devastating, but were Texans!! We will survive, rebuild and be stronger for it. We may have to rebuild like a new Venice, but we will make it through.

Start a Mud Army! I live in Brisbane, Australia. About a million and a half people. The last flood we had, which looks like Austin at the moment, the city council asked ordinary people to lend a hand. The response was overwhelming. "We became The Mud Army. So many people who hadn't been hit badly got buckets, spades, tools, brooms mops etc and the council ferried them on buses to the worst hit areas. The worked alongside the army and the council workers with the heavier equipment. Others made sandwiches, and coffee. Others opened their homes to those who no longer had one. If you were injured helping out, you got free medical care. It was a massive success. Nearly everyone pitched in. Instead of expecting the city councils and army to do everything pitch in and lend a hand. Ask how you can help.

I honestly feel praying is kinda weird, in this context at least. If you believe God is all powerful and has control over everything, then wouldn't be in a way, rude (if you will) to plea for him to help the very people who deemed worthy of punishment? I'm very interested in hearing an answer :)

That would be me and my family but it's so sad to know that other people have to go through worse. Those who evacuated well before the hurricane hit were a minority. Those were the people who left everything behind as soon as buses were available to transport them out of the zone. Most people hit the road in a rush, after they had wasted time packing as much as they could. Then there would be massive traffic jam added to their confusion. It happens every time a devastating storm is approaching.

smiler I live in Central Texas, just out of the major area of effect of the storms. A lot of stations are out of gas here as well. The refinery in Houston closed down before all this started for safety. But, that should be expected. This has been being talked about for over a week, and, to me, it would make a lot of sense to make sure your gas tank is full enough to get out of harms way. May not be allowed back for weeks? Well, there would be very good reasons for that. Just as there are right now for Rockport.

And not only do they still build new houses just with wood, they don't screw it together but just use nails. Its cheap, fast and looks good from a distance. But as soon as a little wind comes up, its all gone. And then all those who are strictly against regulations, because regulations are all bad, then beg for help from the government if they've lost everything. Having that said, its still sad to see people standing in the ruins of their existence. I hope they will get help to start over.
