Check our this cheap part exchange I recently gave £250 for. It needs some work and I’m not sure its worth the effort! Join me as I look around the car and tot up the costs to repair.

I've got the 1.2 which I nicknamed "Gutless" I can confirm its not Nippy but is fuel efficient when driven sensibly

Theses are very common on head gasket fail and timing chain

Timing chain not timing belt, and the timing chain tensioner losing pressure is a common problem on the A12 XER engine

if its the garage Im thinking of , my friend almost bought a 15 reg peugeot 208 for her daughter, she put deposit down , she kept going back when she was told the handover date and sales said car wanted valeting and repairs , she went elsewhere and got deposit back

I buy and sell a lot of humdrum stuff like Astra's Polo Golf and these Corsas...most should do past 200,000 miles given RESSONABLE maintance, these are easy to work on

Definitely worth saving but from a traders perspective I don't think thats worth your time, money and hassle. I wouldn't be able to sell that car even when its fixed with confidence given it was driven without water for god noes how long. Good call not to scrap it, I think it'll be good car for someone who just wants a cheapy to fix up on a budget and drive it till it dies.

Good little cars mostly have noisy timing chains , we always use to have people asking for cheap run arounds under 2500 it will definitely go to someone else , best Corsa we sold was the 1.0 limited in white as cheap to insure never had one longer then a week for sale 👍

In my country there's a cheap product called Wonder Weld. It looks like a bottle of red nail polish. It works by pouring it into the water system but remove the thermostat. Run the engine hot then flush the system out. I used it on my clio years ago after i overheated the engine and blew the gasket. Still running strong after over doing 100 000km. Even works when the water has mixed in the oil and turned into brown milkshake.

Informative break down of what it would cost vs scrapping, not every one is a good one is it. I couldn't take my eyes off the air freshener in the red Citroen, is a window down slightly?

Friend of mine had one of those Corsa's he bought his for £100 as the engine was wrecked , he paid £250 for new engine on Ebay , fitted it himself and sold the car for £2500 , thats an easy way to get rich quick £2500 a week thats 10 grand a month cash

Vauxhall corsa owners are very distinctive driving about with no coolant is a very common thing, oil black and dirty air filters virtually all corsa's have never had a full service or been looked after.

@Ian Putt I was responding to the original comment about how a majority aren't serviced and develop problems from neglect. My father and grandfather were both engineers at Opel for their entire careers and my mother's family owns several Opel dealerships. I am very aware of how trouble-free Opel/Vauxhall vehicles can be if serviced properly.

0:43 there's a ghost in the red C1 playing with the air freshner, Also your best bet would be just to get a 2nd hand engine with similar/lower mileage, bet you can get them swapped over in 5 hours or so, and an engine for one of these can't cost that much with how many there are

Too good to scrap - low mileage, good tyres, reasonably smart (from a distance) and last MOT not bad. Just quickly touch up the scratches, give it a polish and, as you suggest, sell it as a project spares or repairs - try £600?

5 door Corsa D's are better than the 3 door model , as the 3 door always rusts where the rear bumper meets the rear quarter panel. The 1.2 wouldn't drag you out of bed and is dreadful on mpg, 1.4 is much better more power and better on fuel ⛽ (in real life) timing chains rattle if oil is not changed regularly (oil filter starts sucking in looks like a wine glass) also you get lots of over heating issues with Corsa D, Astra H and Zafira B's Why ? Because some GM accountant decided to save a few £ and replace the temp gauge with a light, by the time you have worked out what the light 🚨 is all about it's warped the head. The next generation of those cars all had temp gauges

I would not agree with you. The 1.2 doesn't have the power to do any decent motor way driving, the 1.4 manages OK (ish) and yes I have this version. Talking about the non turbo versions of course.

It's a 1.2 litre mate, Says it on the tailgate! Vauxhall Ecotecs are shite mate, Head gasket and timing chain issues, I'd weigh it in 👍

I can understand stripping down the engine to fix it would be labour intensive, but what about buying a low miles lump from a scrapyard and dropping it in?

Appro absolutely nothing,having just realised what town you are based in a little story .I originally come from Burnham on Crouch in Essex,years ago in the early days of Sat Nav when only new or premium cars had i parking up my new Honda ACCORD 2.4 exec in our high strett when approached by a puzzled looking bloke clutching a map asking me where a caravan park I had never heard of was,not to worry mate I said I can just put the address or postcode into my new fangled Sat Nav and get directions,few minuteslater had to explain to bloke who had driven down from Birmingham,that he was a couple of hundred miles off course and shouild be in Burnham on sea instead.

Head gasket is only a 4 hour job on a Corsa , £40 for new head gasket and even i as someone who is not a mechanic can repair it , its a simple fix , car mechanics always say oh head gasket major job , but thats BS , its only a major job if you own a V6 or V8 etc on a V4 engine its easy and if thats a 3 cylinder its even easier probably a 2 hour job as long as the engine parts are not damaged inside.

Surprised you valued it around £1,500. I would of thought closer to £2,500. Definitely not worth fixing but I would of thought selling the actual parts on eBay would of been a better option. I’m sure the wheels alone with tyres would fetch at least £100 Great vid and will be checking out chrisandben

best case scenario is there is a head gasket failure, worst case is that there is a crack in the head or one of the cylinders tbh if i was you (and assuming you haven't made your mind up) send it to the scrappers for dismantling. as a business its not worth it. the investigation time and running the risk of the added cost of an engine or barrels or a head etc to men in sheds it is.

ye i noticed that
