Something quick but I am just not a fan of all this rich folks trying to force people back into the office full. At the very least, give us a hybrid option.

I work more as a remote Network Engineer. Way more than people that go to the office. Often times going to the office means walk-ups, unnecessary interruptions, and wasted time. It easy for a cool coworker to be bored and stroll up and have a 20 minute conversation.

What blows my mind is when you work in the office and people still don’t collaborate. Literally there because people feel better knowing you are physically there.

People do realize that remote workers actually work way more than people at the office because when you work in a office you work until it's time to log off, but when you work from home we have a tendency of continuing to work even after work hours and that is caused by the fact that bosses be thinking that because you work from home you lazy and not during anything all day. People do know that many companies make you be on camera so I am not sure where they are getting this idea that we are out here in the tub during work hours we be watched all day. Also, we be having so many meetings everyday about nothing.

Daily stand-ups too. Just checking in on everything we do everyday lol like damn this is more than I was looked at when I worked in the office.

I'm on the fence about this. There are definitely people who are more productive out of the office, but from what I've seen and learned from colleagues is that a lot of people slack working remotely. A lot of companies do not have any software to monitor employees, but I'm sure if every company implemented this, we'd be shocked by the amount of idle time we'd see. Now this isn't to say that you should force people back into the office and I'm sure many studies have shown the benefits, but I don't think people are looking at the negatives.

@@TheRealJohnMadden one I don't understand about that part is. Do you really expect anyone to sit at a computer for 8-10 hours a day "working" even in the office you don't do that. Working 4hours or 8hours I personally don't think it matters. If you finish all your work within 4 hours then what? I don't agree with management that provides just busy work to make it seem like you are doing something.

They always talk the negative but never the plus. When we had to go remote back in 2020 , the company actually had a special meeting asking us to keep our work limited to working hours because people were working well into the evening and night. Working from home can actually make people more productive, but the mainstream doesn't want to have that conversation.

OMG we had the same. One of my mangers literally had to tell us we needed to be offline and to stop working on more than one occasion. It's a balance. I do believe it does take a certain type of personality to be success working remote full time but overall I feel people have been happier spending more time with family and no commuting for hours during the week. The media has to try and turn it into something it's not unfortunately. It also doesn't help, when there are some people that post publicly about some of the things the do while working remote....

It's straight up jealousy that not everyone can work remotely, therefore they say that nobody should. God forbid anyone should have a work situation that allows them some flexibility
@certifiedcurls
@certifiedcurls Жыл бұрын
And yet, because of the pandemic, people started realizing how much time was wasted commuting and actually were much more happier at their jobs because they had the flexibility. Remote work is far from new so it makes me laugh how they make it seem like it is.

It’s actually very busy to work from home, you can multitask all the things you couldn’t if you weren’t able work in an office.

My mentor when I was younger said "90% of life is about control. You controlling your money. Other people wanting to control your money. People wanting to control you. Etc." He was right. I could go on a long rant about this but it's not worth it considering the end result but I will say I love your take on it. If someone wants to work in the office, fine, go for it. I dont want to control that person and how they work. I have an immune compromised kid and I'll burn this world to a crisp if my kid dies because someone wants me in the office for work I can do at home and my kid catches covid. I dont care if you want to get vaccinated or not. I dont care if you want to be in the office or not. The real topic here is WHY do the managers and 3 letter acronyms (CTOs, CIOs, etc.) NEED me in the office if it's a job I can do from home? Control. Yeah, we've seen how control of a large group of people goes. Let's not even get into how these are the same people who say "We're family and need to work collaboratively." are the same people who will fire you without notice, reject your FMLA for some stupid reason, push back on raises and benefits, etc. All in all, I agree with you, progress forward, not backward. WFA (work from anywhere) should be a thing and will be a thing sooner rather than later. Get with the program.

I'm still working remotely and I am mixed about it but I know a ton of people who were called back into the office (Washington DC metro). In most cases, people with children say it hurt their home life (that extra 1-2 hrs of commuting a day) but a few I know are single and love being back in the office. I like hybrid when possible, I see benefits of on-site work as well home. Most jobs I work with can be done remotely, but I know a ton fo the data center guys who need to be there. It is mixed.

I agree! I think most should honestly push for hybrid at the least. But it is very true, pros and cons to both.

This all has to do with money, there is an entire ecosystem built around employees in the office. You are looking at commercial real estate and local business which all goes back to tax dollars.

Well said (as usual)! Big advocate as well on empowering us employees on the power of choice. Some of us excel on full remote, some hybrid, some just flat out need or prefer being in office full time. I hate the attack on remote work because there are so many benefits to not only us remote workers but financial benefits to the business itself! It's an outdated mentality of "I can't see you so I can't be sure if you're working or just chilling and doing nothing" when in reality, we all know that one person or group of people who don't get much done in office either. I always say that we should be empowered with the options of in office, hybrid, or full remote and let our PERFORMANCE/OUTPUT be the judge of those of us who are actually doing the work or not. They even fail to realize that us remote workers while we have so much flexibility as remote workers, depending on your employer, management, and/or job scope of work, it can also be a reverse blade sword as we're technically flexible enough to work crazy hours because of the fact we're remote for the environments that don't have/enforce a true work/life balance. Great content as always! Love that you're slowly getting back to your flow of putting out videos!

I really want to put those people in front of home work station and ask them to fix the network down situation. Most of the time WE (remote workers) end up working more from home as compared to office. I think the only thing we actually benefit with "Commute"
@certifiedcurls
@certifiedcurls Жыл бұрын
That is something I do miss. I end working longer hours, on off days, during times where I am supposed to off a lot more now than when I was in office. Plus, lets not forget how we ALWAYS have to available because we have our phones, even if we are taking a lunch or break. The network goes down when it wants to lol It will ruin any chill time haha

The only people that should be blamed in this scenario are the managers. If you feel like your remote workers aren't doing anything then you need to let them go, because there are plenty of remote workers who will take their spot.

That's what remote hands are for. It's not uncommon that numerous company hire remote hands to troubleshoot locations that aren't local. It is usually faster than having to travel to another city or state. There's more to networking than one building

I built an entire 20B USD bank remotely across multiple islands, there is no need for a net engineer to be on-site especially in a multi cloud world. Thats like a company who makes way less than where I work has guys forcefully coming into the office to log into Azure.
