It’s amazing how good he is for being a solo rider and not having a unit of training partners like Javier Gomez and Patrick Lange. I always see those others guys training with several people. Lionel has always been primarily solo. He’s probably like me....too competitive to ride in groups and hate small talk.

One thing I've noticed after watching LS videos is he seems to be wrapped up in his own mind over thinking/analyzing things. Training the mind to be open and free is just as as important as physical training. Untie the knots and enjoy life!

I’m going through this right now. My doctors insisted I had a disc issue in my back and it wasn’t until I figured out it was a stress fracture an pushed for an MRI that I started climbing out of the darkness, even though I’m at my least active.

@endokrin7897
@endokrin7897 4 жыл бұрын
@@Runner8617 "Best read is 'Born to Run' by Chris Mcdougal." Absolutely NO! Don't read the book and don't take his 'advice'! That is the guy who is a major proponent of Barefoot Running. Very controversial, and he does his best to give 'proof' that running with no shoes is better for us, but let me ask you this: How many people do you see running with no shoes? Gimme a break. There is a very, very niche group of runners who go barefoot (apparently; I've never seen one in real life.) He calls these people members of a "tribe" (what an overused term!) And his only 'evidence' is a literal tribe in Mexico. He claims they run with thin sandals and can run very far and very fast. Wow, what rigorous science you've got there. Most everyone else (read: normal people) wear shoes so they don't break their feet, ankles, knees, hips or get deep puncture wounds when a stick or rock or road debris slices through the sole of their foot. The only person most of us can point to as running barefoot is Abebe Bikila, who won the 1960 Olympic marathon in Rome. What most don't know is that he did run and train with shoes, but he bought new shoes in ROME, before the Olympics, and he got blisters since the shoes weren't broken in yet. Not exactly a guy who ran barefoot as a matter of course. McDougal has some good points that humans evolved big brains because we could run to catch food back in the caveman days, and we did this by hunting in packs, and being able to run/walk for long distances while our prey got tired. Cool, but not a new idea. We've known for a long time that we hunted in packs. Hunters and gatherers, right? He takes something everyone knows, adds a feel-good story about a 37 year old woman running a marathon several months after giving birth. 'Clap. Applause. Right in the feels. Now everything else he says must be true, right?' /s Apparently his book was going to be turned into a movie; it's languished for years, thank God. He says the invention of running shoes is the CAUSE of an explosion of running injuries from the early 1970s. I've got another theory: Since the early 1970s, a lot of people started running in the fitness and health craze, when, historically, running was for poor people with no transportation like cars or horses. Even then, most people walked. This guy, who is not a scientist, is making the classic mistake of causation vs. correlation. It's a shame anyone believes him. Here is his TedX talk, if you wanna waste your time listening to his hyped-up nonsense: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mJOZer2B2b28qnk.html This barefoot running thing is not a craze, it's not a tribe and it's NOT a good idea. It's a bunch of hot air. Wear your shoes, kids. Finally, go Lionel! Win Kona baby.

Great insight Lionel.. I’m 3 weeks into an intercostal muscle injury. Happened when swimming and caught me completely off guard. The mental stress of being new to swimming and being down to race my first 70.3 in 2 weeks time was tough. I swam yesterday and can not express the relief of how recovered I felt! Feeling stronger than before 👍🏼

Setbacks always give you a chance to reset and consider your circumstances, but they also provide an incredible opportunity to start fresh and build to something greater. Stay true to your roots and what got you to #2 in Kona in 2017. You can get there again.

Hi Lionel, Hi to the community, my English is a little poorer, sorry for that. It‘s always really interesting to listen to the very honest words which reveals so much more of an inside of an athlete. I don‘t know any other professional who shares his thoughts as Lionel do. In the End it‘s not for us, not for the community, he shares his insides only to be here under us. And still that ist just Great, because it‘s the opportunity for us all to be part of an excellent and even intellectual interesting live in sport. I‘m a professional screenwriter from Germany and I‘m a Triathlet too. My profession is looking on story’s in a wider bow, looking on psychology, looking on Dramaturgie, on the ongoing of a story and the way it is build. Lionel, you, is, are in the midle of a,of his story. It is the part when the hero goes down to some darkest points of his live (till now), of his career in his sport (Lionel). It is not only the point to stand up again, the hero will stand up, Lional, you will stand up, now question! But it is even the point, where the hero will gain new power, where a kind of transformation will happen and where the hero has something to learn. We will be part of the process and we should feel us honored to be part of it. Thanks again for sharing your story. What can it be that could be the lessen for the hero? I think the injury won‘t come out of the blue. Lionel maybe now in the situation to find a new balance between his own hard, no, very hard intensity training and the new impulses of new trainers. The training with a more structural plan is necessary but it is NOT all. It is important to get near to world class, bit it is in the same way important to be oneself, to stick to the inner space, the inner personality Lionel has. What do I mean? Lionel wants to be a, the hero. He ist the hero of his live, but for his, your personality,it is not enough. His words about being worthless after such a shot time shows not the reality,but it shows his insides. And it is honest! Respect! It is absolutely important for an athlete like him to respect his wish in the way he wanted to be respected from us and the world. Lionels personal drive is to be respected in his way of his live. He is coming from nowhere in our sport and he reached the absolute world class in an a very short time! His accident happend because his personality was caged in some way. He should train only with a straight plan. And that is still making a lot of sense - BUT every trainer should now, should lean, what kind of athlete he trains. Lionel is not like other athletes, everybody should see that. He needs a mixture of training with a plan and high intensity hero workouts. This is no joke! It is highly important to let Lionel his motivation, his heroines, his personal motivation - I apologize because Lionel for sure will talk about h´this much better. Conclusion: Lionel will come back, the gun will send hin on the course again,no doubts. Now should not be the time to collect doubts or ask really for depression, that are only followers of this period, of this short time in live. No, again, it is time for the hero to stick to his plan, to learn for the next step, to go for the next (inner) level. Planing is important, but personality leeds. Lionel, you will learn and you will be the hero of YOUR live. Thanks for sharing it with us. Respect! Fabian Thaesler, Germany.
