This is one of my favorite episodes of Circles Off. Please bring Mr. Trenhaile back for another episode. If you are able to bring him back, can you ask him if Pinnacle (or other sportsbooks to the best of his knowledge) does anything akin to reinsurance, where they unload some of their risk onto other books (or elsewhere).

this is super interesting. im still not quite sure how/why a book would choose to operate like PInny or Circa when it could be the model everyone else uses. I supposed because it attracts such larger amounts of money overall and this money is still never enough, however sharp, to beat the vig, however lower, long run?

The folks at Pinnacle know how to book bets and back in the day when Henry and Stanley ran Pinny they were big bettors themselves, these new places like fanduel and points bet etc are just run by CEOs who never placed a bet before in their life and have no interest or know -how in playing the cat & mouse game vs sharps, they rather just ban whoever is hurting the bottom line and move on. They aren’t even real bookmakers just CEOs. Ron Sacco, Stanley Tomchin, Spiro, Skip etc those guys were real bookmakers who took on anyone

Simply bc their Costs (to simplify) are MUCH lower proportionally to their revenue; its not about the vig, its actually about cost of acquisition/cost of sales 😜

i agree if i owned a book it would be a rec book, it's a business that is guaranteed to make money, investors like that, the guys that want the books to run a business so that the they can profit off them, well just think about it man it wouldn't be a business if it continued to lose money, investors that have that kind of money to invest don't seem to have interest in the sharp book model, i don't understand why the sharp bettors just don't open their own sharp book
