I'm glad you got the milk machine that should help those lambs to get more nourishment there by hopefully increasing growth on par with the twins. Keeping fingers crossed! Please stay safe and sending hugs to you and yours 💜🙏🤗

If we were having that many high order multiples, I would be purchasing one of those machines too! Or dorpers usually twin, we will have 20-30 sets of triplets per year (we have 600 ewes), and once we had a set of quads. And I like it that way. Getting my bottle lambs to market weight is such a crapshoot. Half of mine seem to do well and the other half just forever lag behind until I finally get tired of coddling them and we just sell them to get them gone. I can't figure out what is the deciding factor in their growth either. They're all raised the same. I don't raise a ton of bottle feeders (maybe 20 a year?), but they are so.much.work. Plus, I develop favorites and get too attached and try to convince my husband that we should keep them as pets, haha. Never works! =(

Cool Sandi. Got two just like it. Each Machine can hold up to 200 lambs if it has to. I clean the sensor in the cup twice a day. Great machines. Enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.

Good piece of kit. I'm currently doing the bottle feeding method at home and yes it's hellish time consuming to give them enough. Bit of a tip my father taught me to get lambs onto pellets or hard feed better, tip in dry milk powder and mix it into the pellets, the lambs already like the taste and go at it better, great vid as usual 👍

Some great work out of Agriculture Canada when the arcotts were being developed...7 to 9 kg powder per lamb. From France - lambs should be ready to wean when 2.5x their birth weight AS LONG AS they're drinking water and consuming some high quality creep (25-50 grams/HD/day)... doesn't seem like much but their consumption really kicks up when the milk is no longer there. We use these guidelines with our extra lambs and have very good luck.

we have okay soil in jamaica, I usually have a drum full of white dirt that we call Mall, not sure how to spell it or the real name, but it look like powder chalk. they sleep in the drum and mess it up all the time even when i put something that they can only fit their head, they figure out a way, and enter into it side ways, they would stand comfortable with 2 foot in the drum and 2 out, they cannot get all 4 in at the same time.

Ive wanted one of these machines for some time. I don’t have enough bottle babies to sustain the cost and, the big thing, we are off grid and i cannot determine the electricity requirement. Within the next couple years I will be increasing my flock from 125 to 3 - 400. I will need something like this then. I’ve called Grober and asked the electricity needs but no one seems to understand the question and reason I’m asking. This is still on my radar I’m so jealous right now

Hi Deedee, my name is Jackson and I am a Young Animal Specialist with Grober. Sorry you haven't been able to get an answer to your question. For an on the grid application the answer is "on average quite low", which is very dependent on how many animals are on the machine because it does draw significant amps when it runs (it requires a 15 amp/240V circuit). The heating element, powder motor and mixer motor require some serious juice to run all at once when its mixing, but very little when its not. My educated guess would be max a couple of hundred watts when the element is off. If you would like, please contact me at 226-755-2481 or jmatschke@grober.com and we can try and come up with an answer for you.

How much time and effort do you put in to genetics, such as looking for the perfect shaped ram or ewe? I know it's off subject from you vlog , but does the meat Packers get picky about length and build or is it more about getting the lamb to a certain weight and then shipping it to market? Thanks for the vlogs!
@SandiBrock
@SandiBrock 6 жыл бұрын
Great question! To be honest, my mission for the last few years has been flock health, lamb livability, and production increase of my ewes. But you're right, genetics is a huge part of the equation. I cleaned up my ram stock last year and have bought 3 separate purebred breeds and now I'm tracking growth results for each ram. As for conformation, I guess I am quite ignorant to what the perfect shaped ram or ewe looks like, and I rely pretty heavily on my seller for his expertise and advise. The packer I was sending to last year was beginning to grade and dock on the over fats, so this was definitely on my radar. This year, I've been only shipping to my local salesbarn, and in that case, just hitting my target weight is my only shipping qualification.

Hello, great video and great channel, I would like to know if you will be able to feed all the babies on such machine and benefit from milking the mums to make cheese or just simply sell the milk ? Keep up the good job that you are doing, I wish you all the best.

Hi Imad, my name is Jackson and I am a Young Animal Specialist with Grober. It is common practice for sheep and goat dairies to artificially raise their youngstock on an automatic feeder and milk replacer, so that 100% of the milk may be marketed.

Great question! I would think a machine like this gets used much more on a sheep or goat dairy farm for that exact purpose. In my case, I still have the moms nursing a couple lambs in the original pen. This machine is servicing the extra lambs (moms who had over 3 or 4)
@imaddababneh1648
@imaddababneh1648 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Sandi, thanks for the reply, if the mums in the barn are able to feed twins then I guess your ewes are capable of producing a decent amount of milk, so why not putting the twins on the machine and sell or process the mums milk, wouldn't this generate extra income to your farm, and what about the wool, do you sell it or process it or do you just throw it away, where I live (Jordan, where most of the sheeps are Awasi breed) the farmers sell the babies for their meat and after weaning they start selling milk or processing it to a six types of dairies, they used to sell the wool as well, but recently most of them throw the wool in the garbage due to its low price😕.

I would like to know more about the mechanical workings of the machine. Did you end up having to do insulation wrap on the lines up to the nipples? How much dry milk replacer does it hold? Why did you go with only two nipples?? Will other milk replacer work with it. How doest it worl, does it automatically make liquid milk after a certain amount of time or does it have a resavoir that after a certain point it automatically fills? And who cares if there are hateres out there. Your sheep your business not theirs.
@SandiBrock
@SandiBrock 6 жыл бұрын
It holds a bit more than a bag of milk replacer... Only 2 nipples because each nipple services 15-20 lambs. I'm not sure if you can use alternative milk replacer, but I would guess yes? It mixes little batches at a time when the lambs get the fluid low enough to trigger the sensor at the bottom, then it automatically refills.

You bought well. The build quality on those things is very good. I had an inferior machine before which I had to fix myself and it was hell. Don't expect the lambs to do quite as well as with mom, but they'll do pretty good. It's all about getting them on ad-lib pellets ASAP in my book.

People on you tube that are sharing their lives are doing their best and scripture says before you remove the beam out of your brothers eye, remove the p lank out of your own eye. Hi from Azerbaijan. Thanks Sandi for sharing such a price less information. Now days we are planning to start work on new sheep breed cross Dorper with Finnsheep. As most of you know the dorpers has an excellent meet test and gives birth from 2 to 8 babies. Finnsheep can go up to 8. But normally they can give 4 easily. We hope to rich a target of 4 babies each time and 8 babies a year. Problem is once the sheep gives 4 babies they ewe start to suffer to feed them. That is why we plane to get Cow which has milk quality close to the sheep. So we want use this machine but not with dry milk powder but with cow milk. Can you tell us if this machine can run with original milk.

No medication, just an injection of .25ml of selenium. And only because our soils in Ontario are deficient so they don't get enough through their feed consumption.
