These cymbal videos are amazing! Thanks for showing us more than one stick to show how it changes with different types of stick. Thank you for sharing all this great knowledge with us!

The cymbals look so cool with your hammering and the crust still on!

The original looks like an Old Stamp Type IIIb to me (1953 - 1956) Cool project, Tim. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Crazy how this cymbal sounds "big" and "small" at the same time. Certain cymbals tend to capture extremes in that way...I guess that's what makes them so sought after.

I think I watched Part 2 of this project a couple of days ago, so I watched it backwards, but no matter. If I remember correctly, you did a couple of 20" rides as well, which I really liked. I could certainly see the flanged section in the old K, and I get what you mean about that flanged section and the flatter section towards the bell, over time, could restrain some of those overtones. Really informative, and enjoyable video, as usual, thanks Timothy. Have you heard, or played any of the Japanese Koide cymbals, especially the Absolute series, and if so, what are your impressions? Cheers.

Thanks for watching! I have played multiple Koide cymbals. They are very nice. Not my sound preference but very well made.

Very cool to follow, how you’re trying to get to that old K cymbal shape from the blanks you have. It’d be super interesting to see what weight, profile, bell separation do to achieve that.

interesting you saying they covered up a bad cymbal with rivets. I think you have more understanding of what does what than the old zil turk guys.

Thanks Tim. Learn a lot! I have a question. Based on your opinion, if we cleaned the cymbals, would it change the sound? and are we allowed to clean the raw or traditional finishing with cleaner product? Because some products say it is for brilliant finish.

If there's a thick patina, then cleaning it off will open the sound. For an unlathed cymbal, I've heard you can use oven cleaner to polish off some of the oxide. I've never tried it though.

Wouldn’t leaving the crust make the sound warmer?
@ReverieDrumCo

Technically drier, but it can sound warmer too (depending on some other factors)
