Chandler Kirkland do you wrestle at a gym or where? I’m out of high school and want to get into it
@chandlerkirkland4754 жыл бұрын
nickh1234 1357 My college has a NCWA club team. Georgia Southern. Basically pay for play. We compete at NCWA tournaments but we can go to NCAA invitational tournaments too, we have done that before at Virginia Tech. But I’ve also trained at an MMA gym that has wrestling classes and there was some good wrestlers in there too. If your not in college the ways that I know you can get into wrestling is to join either a MMA gym or a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym, but check specifically to see if they have wrestling. If you go to a BJJ gym make sure they start their rolls from standing, those kind of gyms attract wrestlers who use wrestling in their BJJ and you may find people willing to train you in wrestling. There is also something called Catch Wrestling, which is folk style with submissions (its the ancestor of folk style) so you can try to find one of those gyms, that would be great. No gi BJJ comps or Catch Wrestling comps could give you chances to compete.

I’m a a junior in HS now. And with the corona I doubt I’m going to start wrestling in HS soon. How did you learn the basics at such a late stage??
@chandlerkirkland4753 жыл бұрын
@@youseffsoliman5711 I’ve been wrestling for 3 years now and what I know now about getting your basics is different than what I did to start off, so first I’ll say what you should do then contrast that with what I did at first. The very basic foundation you need is conditioning. That’s muscular endurance plus cardio. You can build that by sprinting and taking a break by jogging then sprinting and jogging and sprinting and jogging which is supposed to simulate exploding to attack or defend then returning to neutral to look for more openings. The basic idea is HIIT training with cardio and thier is other ways to do this that’s just a suggestion. You can’t do anything in wrestling without being able to explode and recover and explode. It’s like playing basketball without knowing how to dribble. Next is drilling. Drilling prepares you for live rolls. Stance and motion (which is basically shadow wrestling) is a good basic drill, just learning how to move in your stance. That’s important because a wrestling stance is low with your knees bent, that takes strong legs that you develop with drilling. Whatever moves you want to learn drill it as if your actually trying to do it for real to learn your movement and check yourself with a good source, like this channel, or your coaches if that’s available (Covid reference) to make sure your technique is good. Then when you actually do live rolls, what you get out of those live rolls is proportional to what you put in for drilling and conditioning. Can’t practice chain wrestling if you collapse from exhaustion under your sprawling training partner. And your not going to get good live reps on moves you’ve never even drilled before. Now what I did is just do live rolls really often and get my ass kicked all the time without understanding the importance of drilling or conditioning. I still learned of course during that time period, and I could whoop my friends who didn’t know how to wrestle, but I think I could have progressed faster if I understood the things I do now. I currently train the way I was saying you should to get the basics. But yea man best of luck to you keep your head up and aspire to be great.

I started wrestling at 37. My mma gym had its own wrestling program. I am 40 now and am still wrestling. won my first wrestling match at 39 and lost a a bunch of times. The wrestling program is very good and very intense. We don't get a lot of the bjj or mma adults to come. So I wrestle with a lot of high school kids. I go to the bjj classes as well and work with some really good wrestlers. I agree with this video. If you find a gym that has a dedicated wrestling program you can learn the art. The issue is its hard to find open tournaments. Its kinda sad that its not more popular with adults like bjj is. I feel like its a much more demanding sport to stay with. I did judo when I was younger and that was pretty rough. But wrestling for me seems to be the most grueling of the martial arts I've been involved in.

If you're watching in any point of your life, wrestling is a long commitment you stick to that will benefit you mentally and physically, regardless if you compete or not. If you want to compete, start now, its never too late. One single day can give you a revelation in your skills that may have taken months more to achieve. its all about the small days that allow you to make small adjustments, or big ones. They come randomly and it comes with hard work.

Can u do a video how to have more energy after practice? Cause after practice im always dead but i want to go to the gym bc i have a friend that always beat me and thats why I want to go to the gym so I get stronger

Eat better and get better conditioning. If you're just starting, the wear out makes sense and will soon go away. Practices that used to make me nauseous now leave me wanting to run because it's not enough. If you've been doing it for a few years, I'd suggest evaluating your diet and sleep schedule

carden james well it’s my “second season” but my first doesn’t count cause I drop out mid season this season I haven’t miss a single day, I been feeling les tired but I still get tired after

Jean Guerrero If its a good practice you should be tired after it. Not really a way around it unless coach takes it easy that day. You just have to find the motivstion to get the extra work in

How do I start wrestling in high school if I have never practiced? How will I make the team?

I came across this channel because I did cross country and I'm gonna be doing track and I love running. I have a friend who did cross country with me and he does wrestling and track I just don't know if I should go into wrestling because I'm a runner and I'm not sure if wrestling will take my running fitness away. So I guess my question is can track athletes and cross country athletes do wrestling?
