Really liked the mention to the 3 internal harmonies; I like to think that's the root: unbalance/conflict harmonised.

In my experience, there are many forms of “power generation” in a variety of styles in Chinese martial arts. Hung Gar utilizes the “recruitment of body mass” which is coupled with isometric and dynamic tension drills and put into each strike to generate force in each blow. Lama pai and hop Gar also utilizes recruitment of body mass coupled with iron body training and their power is also different because of that iron palm and iron body training Tai chi chuan utilizes soft internal energy and build through learning how to generate, store then emit Chi, coupled with a very specific type of energy only built by executing motions slowly. Wing chun utilizes a different approach in my opinion by capitalizing on the leverage of skeletal alignment and structure. The power from wing chun comes from its use of the skeletal structure and speed like a marvel being pulled back and loaded into a sling shot Choy li fut utilizes whipping force which is much different from the earlier mentioned. Of course this is a shallow description of each but a valuable observation

Hi Adam, I have a philosophy/wing chun related question after hearing your thoughts. Like you explain, most systems have both internal/external attributes, or can be integrated with those attributes if they are not originally present. And, that students will learn best in a system that aligns with their own psychological and physical attributes. Since there is a soft but noticeable distinction between more Buddhist/shaolin kung fu styles and more daoist/wudang kung fu style, how would you characterize the attributes of wing chun? It seems to have a mix of both elements. What kind of philosophical attributes would you say are expressed in wing chun? Thanks, and appreciate all the great content!

Depends on what style of wing chun you do but for me my teacher says when you contact and touch do not rush and move. If you do so you loose feeling and become sloppy lose structure. So be slow when you touch focus on listening with you body and move only the amount you need to. This could be applied irl

well explained Sifu. I've been following you for a few months, I appreciate what you're doing. because of my "monkey brain" and age [46], fearing not to remain bedridden in my old age,6 years ago I started practicing wing chun with him and started Qigong [Yi Jin Jing, Ba Duan Jin..] shaolin kung fu master Shi Heng Yi of some form and in the end I finish so that in 8 months I manage to do a side split, I realized that the connection of the inner let's call it the spiritual and the outer physical is unbreakable. thank you once again for everything you share your knowledge and be healthy as the Serbs would tell

Regarding Yiquan, the issue with standing for martial usage/power is it requires attaining a good level of opening the joints before post standing yields good consistent results. Yiquan doesn’t have specific practices aimed at opening of the joints, so it assumes you already have that accomplished (remember, Wang Xiangzhai’s students tended to have already been highly accomplished in other arts like Xingyiquan). Bei Shaolin’s Golden Bell is an example of a set that accomplishes opening the joints. Yang Taijiquan has a joint opening set of exercises, but I’ve only seen it taught in one of Shaohao’s lineages. Xingyi’s San Ti can be practiced in a way that accomplishes opening as can the 8 postures of Meihua Tanglangquan, and the Baguazhang mother palms can also be practiced in a way that accomplishes opening (but it’s a lot harder than San Ti). Opening the joints is the most basic requirement for internal training. The sets that specialize in opening the joints tend to have a lot of range of motion work and/or tend to use a lot of strongly expansive imagery, especially as it pertains to the fingers.

An excellent Sifu told me "kung fu is body mechanics". Traditional Sifu will not spoon feed you details of power generation, you pick up that systems power methods if you are a good student.

Adam probably mean to say "Christianity", not "Confucianism." The latter doesn't believe in original sin or that man sucks. Confucianism says man is originally good and that he can best express that when he comes to know himself and his place in the world.

It’s an interesting philosophy. It has 3 layers. Rites and rituals (Zhou dynasty Taoism), human heartedness, and the rectification of names (a proper place for all things, and everything in its proper place). The first was of primary importance since it would directly restore harmony between man and heaven, the second is a good guideline for conduct in maintaining harmony, the last is what you resort to when the first is lost and people are having difficulties with the second. The third is also what constitutes most of Confucianism’s writings. What Confuscious didn’t know is that the rites and rituals he sought were not in scrolls or libraries. They were oral transmissions within specific lineages, some of which still exist today.

@@williambreazeal387 What is essentially important and unique about Confucianism, in my view, is that it offers a system of ethics sans God and church. It is wholly based on man's compassion towards man informed by his intrinsic inner humanity and good-heartedness. Confucianism doesn't get the credit and respect it deserves, in my opinion. Confucianism is probably the first truly humanist system of ethics, predating anything from the West. Even through the Western Enlightenment, the West could not completely shed the vestiges of God. It is probably not until the 20th century that the West could say that they can build a foundation of morality without church and God, but even then it continues to struggle.

@Trondyne. Just a deeper perspective on life other than what the 5 senses relate to. For example "more is less & less is more" is incomprehensible until you are at that level of training to understand the concept in MA. Good luck.

'I literally understood almost nothing... ' = it must be 'Nonsense'. Wow what an ego. I understand nothing of what Dutch people say, or brain surgeons, or high level quantum mechanics Scientists. Oh thats right - it MUST be nonsense then.

@@AR-qn9mq The op and myself saw "power generation" and immediately thought force or kinetic energy as generated from intention (going full rather than holding back, or what you are willing to do or not to yourself or your opponent), using muscles, proper form, leverage, momentum, gravity, and etc. And tips about martial arts good for generating more power using such methods that can be applied to your own training. This video is more about internal energy, or chi, or auras, or whatever else you call it instead of *power*, all of which are pseudoscientific nonsense for which there are absolutely no evidence for despite people's "feelings". Go down that rabbit hole and you end up with the no touch knockout bs frauds. Additionally many people eg warriors, fighters, and soldiers are only interested in combat effectiveness and unconcerned with spiritual and philosophical development that can be a part of martial arts. If you can't handle these simple facts then it is your ego that is needing a check. Also yes, a lot of high level quantum mechanics is or will be proven to be nonsense, as it's still a lot of theoretical "physics".
