my first character was Zane. i love him the most due to his voice lines, his skills are really good when they work well. i did clone sentinal first and now i do barrier and either clone or sentinal. i don't know what skills work the most but i keep double barreled always cause it really helps. he isn't the weakest. he is just the most difficult to master.

Zane got buffed massively in a recent patch, hes overpowered now. Gear with cryo buffs went from 50% to 100%.

Zane was my first playthrough, and i thought he was fun. Then I played as Amara, and I realized how underpowered he was. Its like constantly being 1 or 2 levels behind.

Amara is a good character except for one thing - I hate how she grunts when she jumps. It's incredibly annoying. Say what you want about Zane, what he says is consistently entertaining. He's not bad though, but my favorite is Moze.

Annointed enemies are no longer cryo resistant. Gearbox fixed that, so at least Zane got that going for himself.

Zane is like (pun intended) a snowball small and weak in the beginning but could be come a destructive force of nature later on

He's hands down has the fastest movement speed. With the 102% increase to slide speed with an artifact and plus 20% with a certain smg, also his plus 40% through action skills he almost pushes 200% movement speed which is just super fun. Get anywhere you need in a few seconds and it makes completing each map easy. And I agree his damage isn't outright the best but it's nothing to be sad about. I kill graveward I'm under 10 seconds every time . And with the slaughter shaft build he is almost unstoppable for mobbing .

I chose Zane the moment I saw the first trailer for the game. My friends chose Fl4k, Amara, and Moze. They tried their best to make me feel bad for picking Zane. Shit Zane is amazing heck I feel like some people just don't know how to build Zane. Which I'm guessing comes into play on why they think he is "weak".

Zane was my first 50. You can do a few cool things with his velocity build and the synchronicity talent is great. But I am still trying to get drops for a build. Pretty well stuck on m1 or m2 depending on what I want to farm because my damage output isn't quite there.

I really enjoyed playing as Zane but I remember having one tizzy fit after another when it felt like every patch that came out everyone else got a big buff and Zane either got another Nerf or a mild fix to make the skill work like it was supposed to all along.

Hes got a slow start but becomes a 3 man army once you get on in levels using digiclone and the drone

Zane is the fourth and final vault hunter I'm leveling. He seems alright, but I think he's going to be a lot better when I can do a proper cryo build with him. Cryo is probably my favorite element in the game and he seems really well suited to it.

I love Zane - get a mod with +3 to his movement speed kill skill, spec him for speed across the board and you are moving like 300mph flying across the map like a monster, sliding across the ground at speeds so high, doing ridiculous amounts of damage. At first I was annoyed that he had so few obvious bonuses but you can build such a fun character.

I think with the Seein' Dead Class Mod was the ideal addition to make Zane much more of a reliable powerhouse in M4. Because Zane's most viable build at the time was the Executioner Class Mod and delving heavily into the Blue And Orange skill trees. The only problem with this was for one the level cap at the time making it so you couldn't dupe your weapon to your clone and/or have all your kill skills activate on a action skill trigger, and for two was that Zane had to keep the thunder rolling with kills. This is a issue especially when it comes to bosses as bosses rarely ever drop smaller enemies to trigger said kill skills, and Seeing Dead completely negates the need to actually get a kill in order to trigger the kill skills. That mod singlehandedly makes Zane move faster than Amara at max stacks of Mindfulness, vampire more than her with a dedicated Fist of the Elements tree, and do arguably equal damage to Moze with a Shieldmaiden/Bottomless Mags build.

This is crazy I have been carrying with Zane double abilities (clone/drone). I would have never knew that Zane is consider weak. With my class build I am basically unkillable. The lifesteal with constant dps makes it, so I am constantly in the game. Also my action skill duration is basically unlimited due to my class mod, but in the end I haven’t played any of the other characters to end game yet.

I've played Zane, as well as every other VH in BL3 to a pretty good extent, and I'll say what I've always been saying. Zane IS the weakest, but THAT doesn't mean he's WEAK!! He's still a really really strong VH, and a hell of a lot of fun to play

My first and favorite Vault Hunter in this game. And my favorite Borderlands character of all time. Playstyle is great, personality is great, and with the right build he is very good

Zane needs some bug fixes, and he is a bit squishy compared to others. He needs some specific types of gear to shine, and freezing enemies totally doesn’t work on anointed. It’s much better now as you can slow them. Barrier randomly doesn’t work, but overall awesome. His capskills are meh in comparison to a mixed tree build which is odd.

Zane was the first Vault Hunter that I began with and damn I love him. Now yes although it's harder to focus on 2 skill trees of 2 skills are harder and slower, this was not issue for me. I began focusing on the digi-clone tree and now i'm focusing on my drone tree. That's becuase the drone wasn't really interesting to me at that time. Also because of his clones, you can think nice strategedly. You can for example deploy your clone, back away a little distance and start sniping, or you could also swap places if you find your self in high amounts of danger like you are very close to FFL. 1 thing you could do with that is you can deploy you clone before enemies have spotted you and before entering a battle and then as you start to get quite low health, just swap places and admire the saftyness. Last good use I can think of for now is that around halfway through the game you will meet a lot of enforcers with front iron sheilds. What I like to do in that instance is that once he is targeting me I deploy a clone and goes behind him to flank. If the enforcer turns around I can just swap places and mow him down ez. JUST IGNORE THAT DAMN SHEILD ABILITY OK! it's the most boring one and does not provide as much usefullness with the digi-clone and drone combined. I can take these facts for granted then I can still quite highly recomend Zane. Amara just seem lame to me. Phaselock ripped from maya and not as usefull there as in 2. A fist projectile while can pierce through enemies, does meh to fine damage and phase slam is kind of hard to prepare your distance as onece you activate it, you don't have controll if you want land on where you were standing and yet again does fine damage. If there is one characther that need more critisim attention it would be Amara. And also ffs yes I know it is a trend to now in the BL game's to have at least 1 playable Siren (excluding BL:TPS) but come on, make something new and innovate and more interesting siren abilities like teleporting i suppose. (I'm meh at making ides -__-)

What works for me is giving my clone a Brainstormer to drain shields and do a bit of DoT for multiple enemies, while I switch to a fire Lasersploder with his Quick build. Happen to have a corrosive one too for Hardened enemies and a launcher for 2nd winds. Both my drone and clone can throw (recurring Hex) grenades as well me shooting them out my gun occasionally (which is perfect for me as I always used to forget to throw my nades in BL1/2). Gun damage is through the roof while moving about , I personally thought Zane was OP until I heard others say he's weak, then Gearbox buff him too so if he's the "weakest" I'd say look at him as the " Least OP " instead.

Zane's speedy build with cryo damage, a digiclone with a hornet and an OP Jakobs revolver just obliterates everything in normal mode in seconds. Haven't tried mayhem levels, though

I always find these strongest vs weakest vault hunter discussions kinda funny in a way, mainly because the game isn't competitive so there isn't a serious advantage issue that would break the game. The differences between the vault hunter play styles that make every play through it's own experience what always felt most important to me. Although balance vs the computer enemies is important

Zane getting the Axton treatment

You can proc Brain Freeze on resistant enemies that can't be frozen like Annointed and Tink Turrets. So you can still reset durations in those situations. You can also proc these using any element you want. Meaning freezing or slowing with a fire weapon which is the way to go against Annointed. After the recent hotfix, Zane's infinite barrier builds are even more viable now than ever.

I picked up Zane as my second character, and I really dont see what people are talking about. I might be biased because I lucked out and got a good Seein Dead class mod, but that paired with a speed zane build is ridiculous. Your fire rate is absurd, turning a 25% chance to activate your kill skills per hit into basically a guarantee after a second or two. Pair that with Double barrel, personally I give the clone a Brainstormer, it's crazy useful on M4. Good misfortune turns into "your clone and sentinel will not run out until you leave combat." Its kind of crazy. I'll admit he felt like he was lagging until a bit later on, but man once he hit his stride there was no stopping him. Fractal Frags is also incredible with that set up, stormfront every few seconds? Yes please. (Dont have the Hex quite yet, but that will make it even more insane.) Either way, the dude has serious potential and can carve through bosses and mobs.

It think it has a lot to do with the fact their power lies in kill-skills, like Axton turned into a monster once kill-skills activate. Fortunately the got this right with Zane by allowing us the option to activate at will removing the inherent disadvantage during boss fights where Axton had to rely on adds.

So far I've beaten the slaughter shaft in TVHM M3 solo with Moze and Zane. Both Vault Hunters are basically unkillable with the right build. That in itself makes Zane extremely good. I use the shield/ digi clone and focus my gear on cryo and action skill cooldown rate. This build is a lot less stressful than shield/drone because you don't have to rely on killing enemies non-stop and the clone is just better dps wise. With the right annointed(+50% cryo damage!!!) gear, shield/drone is extremely good and fun as well though. So far I haven't managed to make drone/clone work in slaughter shaft because Zane's health regen is too slow but a terror build might work. Idk yet.

Everyone says Zane is weak but when you can negate damage with a shield and having some of the most viable and fun builds out of all characters. for flak there is literally only crit, radiation, or the rakk build that's it zane can incorporate gear with his action skill with his cap stones making him one of the most powerful IMO

For enemies who can't be frozen, you can use Brain Freeze to proc Calm, Cool, Collected. Very handy against bosses

Cryo build is the way, constantly having both action skills up & running whilst freezing enemy’s. had the most fun with him out of all the characters

Zane is my favorite, his shield ability reminds me kinda of Halo’s gameplay of throwing shields out, but this time I can pick it up, then his clone and personality is just perfect for me, then his drone + clone helps greatly with bosses. Then my favorite is one of the perks I got (I’m at 15 at the time of this comment), where each action skill deployed gives gun damage an additional 12.5% damage increase.

Running the fast all round barrier with the two starter perks on left & right of the blue tree is great. Along with anything else to make you go faster... can't get any more offensive than that.

I started with him and I haven’t had many issues so far. Typically I’ll initiate the SNTNL and deploy the shield for an on slaught. When the shield is deployed damage is increased when shooting done behind it, it applies to your character and teammates. I don’t see him very much flawed because you still have the choice to carry grenades instead of having two action skills. I can see the perspective though where one would think he is weak.

I main Zane and I find that he is the most fun to run as. He provides more of a challenge than the other vh's and is way more fun to play as, especially considering how many flaks and mozes there are nowadays. Typically when I run circles of slaughter my team which normally consist of flaks and mozes (an occasional Amara), go down really fast especially in mayhem 3 but with Zane's survivability he Outlast them by a long shot and has enough damage output to get the job done. Idk I just like Zane more than the others if lmao

It seems I have a knack for picking the least popular characters everytime I play a Borderlands game lol. I'm a main Axton in Bl2 and he is really op when you set his skills right. And now Zane, I honestly like him quite a lot, he is a mix of Wilhelm with his SNTNL Doppleganger with his digistructed clones but he also has the barrier skill tree which slightly reminds me of Roland's Scorpio from Bl1

I've been playing Zane since I picked up BL3 on steam. Hes not the best character but far but what makes him the best is that hes great for coop play. My GF plays Moze and so while she is gunning people down, I'm making sure she is buffed and protected. I even use the drone to give defensive reductions to big or strong enemies. When it comes to Mayhem, I dont have any issues playing solo. Especially on Mayhem 4. The shield can buff attacks substantially and protect you for a short time too.

The best thing I ever did was ditch barrier and go full offense with Zane. In MP, the barrier is more of a burden or hindrance to killing enemies. With a full party, you have to have REALLY good communication when deploying your barrier and trying to get someone, ANYONE in your party to want to hop inside to take advantages of the boosts it provides. It's just plain easier to use the clone and drone. You've got enough defensive skills in the clone's tree anyways to supplement some form of survival while you're busy murdering dudes.

I feel like a lot of people expect Zane’s Drone and Clone to just one shot everything, I find them more useful as decoys. So the best build Imo is Barrier and clone so you have a free escape if you need to run and recharge shield.

Zane is inspector gadget. Has a bunch of tools to solve any problem, but has nothing to directly deal with anyone or thing hostile.

Get the right gun (like the Devastator or Lucian's call) with his clone spawning the same gun and they will liquefy any opposition. he was my first pick, now I'm on Flak

Been only playing Zane, trying to get a 100% before trying others, I have yet to go down the shield tree. I love double barrel too much, basically a moveable turret you can choose which weapon to give. I struggled a lot early game and a few bosses like Kawa ball or agonizer, but clone and drone for life!!! Having the skill that increases your damage when an action skill is used is amazing enough early game I think to warrent picking two skills. Iv only been playing mayhem 1 but I'm having a lot of fun at 50, if I run into annointed I can melt them pretty fast if I pull out both out the clone with whatever high damage weapon, him and the drone start popping off storm front grenades and the screen starts going crazy. Can't wait to find a recurring hex.

It´s my first character so far, deploying the barrier and releasing the Sentinel is very usefull in the early game (I´m around Level 20) also the elemental resistance skills are very usefull with enemies like Killovat.

Zane is going to awesome after the level cap increase. Two skills with capstoness!

I’m not the kind of person that uses “specific builds,” like crit builds, grenade builds, etc. I just use what fits my interest and my needs. You can get a skill for the Digi-Clone called “Old-U” which is basically just ending the skill at any time it is active to get a second wind, this is a game changer for me because I go down too much. There’s not much I can say, I can see why a lot of people don’t prefer him, Crit builds, grenade builds, etc. The Double Barrel skill for the Digi-Clone is really good. As explained in the video. Of course, it’s all up the play style and what the player “wants” from the character. I don’t know how to put it, some action skills feel weak at times but if you can put the skill points in the right places, it’ll help a lot. I don’t know what else to say, he has a great personality, with the dialogue when deploying his Digi-Clone and (sometimes) the Sentinel. Also just his dialogue in general. Well, I’m just another person that prefers him. Have a nice day. Edit: I didn’t mention that I don’t look into builds, or really care about them, for a fact. So I’m not really using any popular builds or considering using any at the moment.

He's very good when you go down the clone tree and unlock double barrel and equip a face puncher. It gives him unlimited ammo and then use the shield with points in adrenaline and you will be have your shield and clone up for 90% of the time

I did a build with the clone. Sentinel. Quasar grenade. And several of the Jacobs revolvers . Sentinel uses radiation and electrical damage to soften up up the targets. Clone says look at me lol. And i hit them for crit damage. And the grenade corrals the mobs for rad/ cyro splash damage. Sometimes i can do 9 shots, 9 missing heads.

Every other character does have defensive abilities, mainly from regeneration though. Moze-Grenades(hex)/ Flak- Gamma burst and any radiation damage (I run radiation flak)/Amara- Anything she kills or damages with an element/ Zane-freezes, barrier, and crit hits but doesnt go up quick enough mainly. I personally dont like moze that much, but she has the highest defensive stats with her iron bear(optional bubble), grenade crits, and just a flat out shield of retribution build.

I picked Zane having no idea who was good for what playstyles, founds his dialogue jokes so I never swapped. Completed the story with digiclone and then spec'd into the SNTNL for tvh mode (always mayhem III). If you use the digiclone for more than just a turret you can deal massive splash damage to enemies and stack crazy amounts of kill skills. plus the Old-U skill is awesome for the bigger bosses, cant complain really

I really hope they raise the level cap so we can put more skill points on Zane

He’s the first and only character I’ve used and I’ll probably be using him for a while because I have a blast doing anything from farming to mobbing with him

Zane may not be the best, but his voicelines are great and a movement build is insanely fun. With a seeing dead class mod, you can have your kill skills up pretty much forever in combat and move like a tornado of death

he has more skill to boost cryo than just cold bore... brainfreeze, best served cold, and trick of the light

im playing after he got buffed but and he is amazing now dare i say the best? Cryo is a great all rounder with resistances and whatnot and some really cool stuff about him are 1. his drone and digiclone can revive u by killing enemies in fight for your life 2. he is very versatile in the ways u can play him 3. fun to see his interactions with other people 4. realtivly good in co op with his barrier shield and all the buffs you and your allies get from it

Honestly as a Zane main I agree with a lot of this. Offense is a lot stronger than defense in bl so the most defensive character is not gonna be the best, but he still has a lot going for him.

Zane can pull off infinite ammo with any weapon. Farm for the facepuncher, a artifact with ammo regeneration on melee hits, and invest in the double barrel capstone for digiclone. Now you have unlimited ammo when your digiclone shoot the facepuncher shotgun cuz it counts as melee

I main Moze, and have an alt Zane. My thoughts on his powerlevel is that from 1-30 he is okay, but from 30-49 he is so weak compared to equal level counterparts, he doesn’t really come to his own until you get the bits for a HIGHLY specialized and min-maxed loadout and skill spec. Also, you’re wrong about the anointed; you still get the CCC benefit, they are just slowed, not fully frozen.

10 months later, zane is now the most OP hunter.

Last time I played him, the shield didn’t block a lot of enemy fire even when equipped as a dome, once they fix that his action skill reset will make him really solid

You can actually still proc 'Calm, Cool, Collected' on anointed enemies to reset your action skill durations, they just can't be frozen completely.

Zane is a good well rounded solo class that I have found.

Drone Delivery is also a great skill. Combine it with action skill extension kill skills and you get a ton of free grenades.

AS A PERSON WHO MAINS ZANE THIS HURTS

Zane is bloody incredible. He has great personality and is really funny and has several really good builds that can just run through enemy health bars.

My brother played the whole story plus Mayhem 3 and he says Zane is a glass cannon. With the right SMGs and perks and skills he can melt through hordes easily, but he can easily get one shotted, too. Kinda similar to Zer0.

Zane is hated because you actually have to learn how to play with him. You can't just go out and go ham like the other characters. But, once you learn his skills and actions, to me he is the best.

I love Zane I went from wanting to play amara the most but now it’s Zane. I survive more with Zane than I do with the others

I have all 4 characters at 50 and mostly play solo. Zane is my favorite and most fun character to play as! His clone with its end cap perk is amazing and gives a little bit of strategy element to the gameplay. I use it with the bubble shield that shocks enemies inside it. I wish he would shoot the Laser Sploder gun like everyone else though and not like it’s a semi auto rifle. That kinda sucks. It never procs the missiles when he shoots it. I have the Cryo version and I know the clone would be really good using it at it’s full potential.

Zane is a fun character, especially when you use the Cheddar Shredder Grenade if you preorder, or those Legendary shock grenade and have your drone and clone be able to deploy them.

Speed/kill skill zane is amazing. Use the infiltrator class mod with a shield and the blue tree keystone to activate all kill skills on action skill. The Rough Rider seems like the best pairing, but it's not. You're going to be taking tens of thousands of damage in M2-3, so it doesn't matter whether you have 5000 or 8000 health. Use a shield that has a special effect on break... Nova or the Stop Gap. Alternate the timing of your action skills and have the kill skills going all the time.

Zane reminds me of axton so much with all the cool kill skills and his sntl and clone doing there own thing similar to axton turrents,I think that's why I love Zane so much cause I loved axton too

I just picked up BL3 for my ps5 and i picked Zane this time around (i played Fl4k when the game came out) purely because he had speed skills and most importantly the Demon Could Weep head customization I play Axton in BL2 so I’m used to playing characters on the less broken side lol

I agree that Zane isn’t bad at all, but the issue is... like a race. Amara, FL4K, and Moze are so damn badass and feel so damn powerful. In a race I would say there was a miracle and three people tied for first while also breaking world records. Zane came “second” but technically came fourth. He also ran a damn good race, but he”s not getting on the pedestal. Or, a genius can’t stand out among super geniuses despite still being a genius.
