The plaintiff says he rented a room in the defendant’s home for 13 years. He claims the landlord invited his sticky-fingered jailbird pals over, and someone stole his laptop and watch. He’s suing the defendant for their value. The defendant says the plaintiff has no proof of anything and should just file with his renter’s insurance.

He almost won.... if he had not interrupted the defendant and listed all the other people who were living there. He was so determined to tell alllllll the people living there that he talked his self right out of a ruling in his favor.

well i personally believe that the plaintiff also has a shady past as well and he made the whole thing up to try to use the small claims court system to get money and he admitted that he knew that the whole damn household had criminal records so theres no way he is gonna leave expensive items around when he isnt home .

@@marleonetti7 there's a problem with you're theory ... I don't know how much you have to pay to take a case to court .. but here in England I think it's £60. So what I'm saying is I've lost the case and £60 🤔 that doesn't make sense.

I’m going to guess that they are also on the sex offender registry. Only because they do have very limited housing options and tend to congregate to the same areas where a landlord is willing and the house meets the requirements.

If the plaintiff was so concerned about the riff raff coming and going, why on gods green earth, did he just leave his door unlocked?? I had a neighbor who had all kinds of criminals coming and going, ppl at all hours of the day, and all night long. I shut and fasten lock and bolt my door and all the windows. It would make sense for the plaintiff to do the same if he was truly concerned...

Morally speaking he would have won but we all know the law isn’t always moral & doesn’t work like that! Also, he knew that his stuff was stolen prior over the years SO he should have gotten a safe & not just a lock or keep it somewhere safe! The lock on the door as he said himself was left open & sadly that’s on him. Also WHO SAYS it wasn’t his so called friends who knew it would be easy to pin it on one of the other jailbird tenants!??! This is why this kind of case wouldn’t hold up in most courts!

@faile66
@faile66 2 ай бұрын
Hmm, almost. Liable means responsible by law. You can be responsible for a situation but not liable under the law. Imagine there is no law against littering. You litter. You are responsible for the mess, but you can not be found "at fault" under the law and charged with anything. Responsible, not liable. Simple.

Why did he stay there so long with 'so many issues' in the past, then not locking the door, and getting a new deadbolt after the incident only to move afterwards? A landlord is legally obligated to maintain safe surroundings. Regardless of what was said, "Numerous People", etc, but the landlord KNOWINGLY allowed people with RECENT CHARGES/RECORDS/DRUG ADDICTION; not that they PAID their debt and demonstrated rehabilitation to society. COMPLETELY DISAGREE. Circumstantial or not, the LANDLORD should not INVITE KNOWN CRIMINALS TO THE HOME!

But If no other thefts ever took place before (or after) the suspect showed up, but then a theft occurred on the dates the suspect was there, and the dates match up with the dates the items went missing, then I think it might be safe to conclude that it WAS the person in question. I think she needed to ask if any other thefts had ever occurred, because if no other thefts occurred until the suspect showed up, and nothing has been missing since, and the things went missing in that timeframe that the suspect was there, then it might be safe to conclude it was the suspect.
