After testing the Tamron 28-200 for the last 4 weeks in Alaska I am impressed. This lens is great it's really really great and I don't mean just for an all in one lens. This is a real world test of the newest lens from Tamron for Sony A7III A7RIII and A7RIV and other APSC or Full Frame e-mount Sony cameras. For the last few weeks I took this lens with me everywhere and filmed everything with it. The Tamron 28-200 for sony really is a fantastic lens for photographers and videographers who travel and explore the world. This lens actually does make it possible to take just one lens with you everywhere and still take great photos and video. It's sharp and a great zoom range and works well in low light especially at the wide end of the zoom range. It's small, light weight, durable and affordable. If you were only going to purchase one lens I would highly recommend this one!

That's an amazing story about how a Tamron 28-200mm lens saved the life of an stranded climber. From now on, I'll be carrying a Tamron lens everywhere I go as you never know when you may be in need of a rescue. Thank you Tamron!

Thanks for the review Jake and for your action. I love the ability to use the crop in on the A7III as well (video at least). A trick I used to use when photographing events years back was running with two cameras; a full frame for wide and med med telephoto lens’s and a crop frame with a 70-200 to get an extra reach as needed. Also you have steady hands!

You're lucky to have Alaska, take good care of it. Norway is now utterly destroyed by wind power plants all over. Google, Fb, German capital and so on, really every vista is destroyed, and with Hurtigruten Cruise-ship you can now only travel 16 minutes along the Norwegian coast without seeing wind turbines, and it's to become worse, much worse!

That is a great review! Just got the 17-28mm and 28-75mm f/2.8 last week and now for sure I will be returning the 28-75mm f/2.8 (still debating on sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 that is wider and reviews shows a bit tighter at 28mm) but still debating to purchase this lens only or have this one as a daily/outdoor event lens with flash/strobes and add 35-150mm f/2-f/2.8 for newborn/family/wedding/lowlight event photography. Would you say the sharpness are at the same level regardless of the f/ stop differences when compared with 28-75mm or 35-150mm?

@JakeSloan
@JakeSloan 4 жыл бұрын
This lens will give you a lot more zoom in the telephoto lens and on sharpness they will be pretty close but I think this will win out overall. If you plan to do a lot of handheld shooting then the Sony will do better since it has OSS built in. Either one will serve you very well for a single lens. Tamron is also coming out with a 70-300 that would pair well with the sony if you decided to go that route but then get a more telephoto lens later. Cheers!

Hi, I'm an adventure motorcycle rider. I have gone around the world. My last trip - last year was from Miami to Thailand -- only crossing water from Canada to London, UK - 30,000km. I dumped my Sony lenses and mostly relied on my 28-75 2.8. I have little room - and can only carry small weight. So to my question: I want to bring 3 Tamron lenses on my next trip - Miami to South Africa on motorcycle - 40,000km. I must have the 17-28 for landscape. What other 2 lenses to bring of the 3 available? 28-75, 70-180 or 28-200? I do care about quality of image a lot and I do shoot lots of portraits -- I generally go to places off-the grid so I wont be returning... Thought?
@JakeSloan
@JakeSloan 3 жыл бұрын
I would take the 17-28, 28-75 and 70-180 if you can. However if you want to save some space and weight then take the 17-28 and 28-200. It's a great combo! the 28-200 doesn't perform quite as well in low light at the long end due to the f5.6 aperture but it's an excellent lens in every other way. Cheers!
@Coldgecko
@Coldgecko 3 жыл бұрын
@@JakeSloan Thanks Dude. Thats the combo. Done. ... And I was dead serious... I love the Tamron concept of lightweight - no frill lenses. I took a ton of Sony lens gear to Nepal and Everest Trek last year also -- and it was the last straw... I'm too lazy to carry that heavy crap for incremental gain. Check out my stuff at: www.phillipadeleon.com/Gallery-Page/ . Cheers.

The G2 28-75 is quite a bit better optically, certainly at the wide end. It's basically perfectly sharp wide open from corner to corner. But you have to ask yourself if the 28-200 would be good enough, which it certainly is.

I'm struggling with the same question. Very happy with my 28-75, but maybe the reach of the 28-200 is preferable when being out in the landscape?
@JakeSloan
@JakeSloan 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've had the same thought about selling my 28-75 for something like this. I find I use it still in interview sessions etc but I think this would work for that as well. If you find yourself needing more zoom range then I would say yes unless you have the funds for the 70-180 and want the better low light that lens provides
