‘And the Bruno story is more or less over.’ Is it any wonder with commentators over reacting like this that boxers are so terrified to take a loss and duck proper challenges. Bruno went on to lose several more fights and still won a World title.

The thing about Bruno winning the title though was that he was given more championship shots (4) than anyone else at that time. Take nothing away from the fact that he was champion, but I do believe that it was a case of he was going to win it at some point given the number of opportunities he had

@@w900L l also remember when Frank Bruno arrived back in the UK after he lost to Tyson, he was given a hero's welcome by many fans in the Airport. I`m stunned that Frank stayed on his feet after that first big left from Bonecrusher. That was a seriously hard punch. Bonecrusher threw that punch from half way across the ring. Bonecrusher was actually a pretty good fighter and he didn't even start boxing til he was well into his twenties. He went to college, got a degree, was in the military, was a prison guard, finally started boxing, then went pro at the very late age of 28. Still managed to get his first title shot at Larry Holmes in only his 16th fight, give Bruno his first L, first guy to stop Tim Witherspoon, beat guys like Jesse Ferguson and Mike Weaver, got smacked around by Mike Tyson but went the distance, etc. Wonder what he could have been if he had started younger.

Never understood why some fighters can't hold?? When I used to box (amateur ABA) the first thing I'd do if in trouble on the ropes is move my feet and skip away out of range, but if I was really pinned/cornered just grab on or hold an arm. It's just instinctual to do it to protect yourself!

@AZadeh-nd8vx4 жыл бұрын
@@martinquigley5219 oh yeah, all the belts at cruiserweight! Lol why do I have to have world titles to comment? It's a common theme in boxing that some fighters, for some reason, do not hold on or get out of corners. Bruno is one of them. Just like some fighters don't use the jab, others don't move their head and some don't use lateral movement. You don't need to be a world champion to make that observation. both of these guys seem like they lacked the good footwork and 'full body leverage punching skills' that the better heavyweights had. I.e. Both seem like good men, were solid contenders. I think Bonecrusher might have shaken up the world had he had the fortitude to do some punching against Tyson, alas he mostly just wanted to clinch.
